I am a retired English teacher and speech therapist, and I am so happy to hear you pronounce chaise correctly and advise your audience of the correct pronunciation. Once an English teacher, always an English teacher. Same with correct pronunciation of words.
I appreciate your knowledge. I’ve already had people trying to correct me, but I know I am correct. I don’t have time to debate comments like that. Have a wonderful day!😊😊😊
I love your approach to design 💕it’s very chic however you advise is very much practical and conscious to the impact to the environment, I don’t like those quick make over where people throw things / furniture and get something that is not great quality so it won’t last the test of time. Anyway that you for your advise!!
Definitely keeping our modular sofa, because we don’t have a lot of space and when Christmas comes around we can move things and break it apart to make room for our tree! And as for the Cheval mirror, my grandmother has an antique one at the end of a hallway that gives me the creeps and I can never look straight into it because I have a crazy imagination 👻 . 😂😂
Garrett, what great ideas. I grew up with those gold couches and bedrooms with floral curtains and bedspreads. Oh boy! Mom was so proud of her house. We had lampshades with cellophane on them
If you have looked long and hard it might be a good idea to enlist the help of a local qualified interior designer that can come to your home and make some suggestions and help source it or perhaps consider custom.
Correct. The change from “longue” (very hard for English speakers to pronounce) to “lounge” is an example of what is called “folk etymology” in linguistics.
Of the many posters on YT, you are one of the few who acknowledge comments. Thank you! There is one piece that I love and you have mentioned before - the armoire (wardrobe). I have one in my kitchen fitted out with shelves for pots/pans, one in my hallway used as a linen closet, and another converted into a bar. While mine are from the 1800s, there are some good quality "entertainment centers" that can be picked up dirt-cheap. Love a bergère chair. I have one by Pierre-Antoine Bellange, made in about 1815 in French Empire style. It's very formal but it works in my 1830s house. Never fear - there is also newer stuff - I don't want to live in a museum.
Love armoires! I couldn't find a place in a bedroom for mine, so I had it fitted with shelves. It houses my china in my dining room and looks fabulous!
I think dark wood floors are luxurious and glamorous, but it does show dust and pet fur. Make sure you have an elegant, classy dark companion animal to go with your dark wood floor.
All surfaces will show dust and hair. I had dark hardwood floors in our last home and there was no problem as everything is always kept clean. I say have the floors you love, and just keep things maintained.
Hello LeChic Fam! Garrett , please darling show us all the changes that you done in your living room and any other that you recently updated. Love your design inspirations in your videos! Until next time, xx hugs
Interestingly enough, I had no idea any of these were dated. I assumed they're either coming back into style or timeless, most for the aesthetic, and the modular sofa for function. All of these would be bought very quickly where I live. Maybe it's a regional thing? Either way, I would absolutely love any of these peices. On the topic of inlays in wood furniture, one of the prettiest inlays I've seen is mother-of-pearl. It's absolutely beautiful when set into wood. My sister's in-laws have an entire living room set with mother-of-pearl inlays on carved wood. It has to be some of the most beautiful furniture I've ever seen.
I have a 100 year old front door with Dental moulding on it. Love it. I have Actually had people offer to buy it from me. No way! I'm keeping that thing forever.
I stumbled upon my mahogany cheval mirror in an anitques store several years ago and immediatley called my husband to bring the truck. The label on the back reads" Geo. C. Flint Co. West 23rd. St. NY. I know that the factory was there from 1893 to WWI. It lives in my bedroom with my mahogany canopy bed (Leonard's) and inlaid dressers. I will never part with any of these!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you are enjoying. Please take a moment if you haven’t already to support the channel, and become one of our valued subscribers. 😊😊😊
I will be keeping my bergere chairs until I’m gone. The carved wood detail and the subtle tapestry fabric make my living room. Also, a huge fan of both marquetry and parquetry.
My house was built in 1991. We have 9' ceilings. The builder/owner loved dental moldings. Bedroom tray ceiling and crown identical design in the diningroom and full livingroom and fireplace. Outside of the house has dental moldings around the eaves. That detail was part of the home's charm.
Garrett I adore your advice❤! You are always so warm and kind and on point. Your pronunciation of difficult international words are perfect. I always have difficulty with those words! I love how you genuinely inform us and take care we understand not only the pronunciation of the word but the background and purpose and full meaning and use for the piece of furniture or décor piece. You were truly meant for doing what you do and we love you very much for it. ❤ we missed the babies in this video? 😂. Anyway I loved everything you showed. I’m going to keep my eyes peeled. This video makes me think of all the Chippendale and Hepplewhite furniture that got thrown out or shunted off to servants quarters or basements when they went out of style, only to make fortunes for some lucky dumpster divers a couple of hundred years on!
Hello 👋 I’ve always had a chaise lounge love it in my space. We literally bought a Chevelle mirror just to take some wedding pictures with, I no longer have the mirror, I wish I would have kept it. Great video, love learning about these beautiful features thank you ☺️
Hi Garrett! So funny…we have a Buy Nothing group in our area and I saw a cherry wood Cheval (sp?) mirror! I had just watched this video. The person’s mother was moving and they didn’t want it so I’m the lucky new owner!
My whole life (ok the 20 years I've had them),, I never knew what my beloved chairs with the cane sides were called. Now I do! Very, very interesting as usual dear Garrett. I used to have a beautiful set of four nesting tables and my daughter decided to walk off with them, lol Love all your furniture advice. I love marquetry and I too have them. Have a nice night ❤️
I love a Cheval mirror. Sadly, I've never had one and don't see that happening soon...we have a fun loving German Shepherd with a tail that could knock a person out if they aren't aware. Good afternoon Garrett, Phewww todays class was zip, zap, zoom… I need to watch it one more or say few more times to get the pronunciation right🥴 I almost felt like I am in Paris design class😍 Thank you so much for todays Le chic episode. So many new things that I haven’t known at all, including the pronunciations😬 and thank you for enriching my vocabulary, thou it will take me some time to get it all right 😋 I have the cheval mirror, as one of the window corner in the guest bedroom was empty and I got it from an antique store, it catches all the greenery in that mirror, and looks a mirror full of life now:) The nesting table was almost a last addition to the house here, and as you rightly said, used the couple of them for my corner reading nook and one of them in the office room here. So yes they are versatile and if you get them in glass they just make the space look more roomier:) I was laughing when you were describing about the mirror and the earthquake😂 Have a wonderful week Garrett🥰
I love your tips! I love those mirrors. I love your whole taste. I have been blending my husband’s love for modern / clean lines and my love of antiques and beautiful old pieces, mixed with things we collect on our travels. We are building a home (probably breaking ground soon, yaaay!) and I’ve worked so so hard on designing the interiors, he’s crazy about them and I’m so excited. Its definitely unique, creative, tells our story… I’ve been so inspired by your channel this past year!! Thank you! 😊😊😊
Such a lovely video, Garrett, thank you. I find marquetry fascinating. For extra storage in our bedroom, in a sliver of space, I found a delicate Belle Epoque ecritoire covered on three sides in beautiful marquetry of flowers and vines. The drop-down has its original tooled leather, and the top is a most unusual red marble unavailable today. The legs are covered in gilt scrolling. Its little drawers hold my odds and ends, while the cupboard beneath is a repository for whatever I want close by. I’m probably not doing the piece justice by using it as a catch-all, but it is a work of art, and the fact that it isn’t actually being used will, I hope, preserve it. It’s all part of my moving away from matching casegoods in the bedroom, one of your excellent suggestions. Thanks again❤️
Keep anything that brings you joy, pack away items which you have loved but for now, have become tired of. Shop in your own home "packed away" boxes or basement temporary furniture warehouse. Styles come and go, but items that bring and hold memories are priceless. Well Done Garrett and your innate ability to see the beauty in tradition and the value of furniture made by craftsmen.
I love dentil moulding and marquetry/parquetry - such beautiful detail! The mix of color and texture can make our home so interesting and personal. Thank you for your beautiful, thoughtful content!
I love old furniture as long as they aren’t painted. They seem to be higher quality and are built with solid wood. I hired a painter years ago. I have a ranch house now and wanted white ceilings. The painter said walls and ceilings were now painted the same color. A white ceiling with walls in pastel colors makes the height of the ceiling seem taller. Walls and ceilings in the same color makes a lower ceiling ranch house room look like a cave.

I love wood and am saddened when it’s painted. Wood is nature’s art.
Agreed!
Truth. ❤
Yes!
Me too. It’s awful.
I agree and I’m sure natural wood is coming back with the 1970s vibe.
I am so happy to see you mentioning the furniture pieces that have inlayed wood. I have 2 pieces that I love and will never give up.
👍👍👍
I was taught, back in the Dark Ages, that the term actually is "chaise longue" from the French, literally meaning "long chair".
Correct. The change from “longue” (very hard for English speakers to pronounce) to “lounge” is an example of what is called “folk etymology” in linguistics.
That’s how I heard it from an English relative while in England. I much prefer the French pronunciation.

Give me traditional furniture anytime. Modern or boho does not get it for me.
👍👍👍
In terms of dentil moulding, you can still find it in mantel pieces

I love old furniture as long as they aren’t painted. They seem to be higher quality and are built with solid wood. I hired a painter years ago. I have a ranch house now and wanted white ceilings. The painter said walls and ceilings were now painted the same color. A white ceiling with walls in pastel colors makes the height of the ceiling seem taller. Walls and ceilings in the same color makes a lower ceiling ranch house room look like a cave.
Sometimes they are painted the same! Every situation is different depending on the design effect sought.
@@GarrettLeChic I was just surprised that I had to insist the work be done the way I wanted. Take care.
