Her signature sound is achieved by layering her vocals on top of one another. Her sister, the lead singer with Clannad, and as a solo performer, also has a beautiful voice.

Beautifully said and I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically agree. She is stunningly beautiful and seems to have a strength derived from serenity, tremendous grace and a noble dignity. She is a most remarkable woman blessed with talent, intelligence, and beauty. I am not the kind of man who is a "fan"of famous people or given to silly or frivolous crushes. But I would also be lying if I didn't admit to being utterly captivated by Enya and her music. She is a most stunning woman on every level. I believe she is a model of womanhood that young ladies today should look to and learn from.

Good one, Maddy. Enya grew up in a musical Irish family and started off singing with them as part of Clannad. When she finally went solo she became a huge star. You might also like Clannad's music. They were more traditionally Celtic, less New Agey than Enya later became, but they also were quite famous back in the day. Good stuff! OMG! I remember watching Enya perform this LIVE during the 2001 World Music Awards. Talk about angels! She sat at a grand piano, accompanied by several angels standing around her, playing violins in front of a beautiful background of tall, flowing light blue curtains. The rap artist who introduced her mentioned that her album had sold 100,000 copies. The first thing he said after being mesmerized by her performance was, "Make that 100,000 and one." I've been unable to locate ANY copies of that show or performance since then.

I was first introduced to her music, when I volunteered at a Headstart, and we would put the kids down, for nap time. Some of her songs are instrumental and they're just as good. I don't know if you would be interested in this, but there is a Canadian singer whom I used to listen to back in the 90s named Loreena McKennitt who did music a lot like this. I would recommend you listen to her music even if you don't want to react to her on your channel. The music is very good in my opinion. I would describe it as Gaelic, Celtic and Irish combined. My fav Enya's songs are :
"Robin" from BBC TV show "Robin Hood the Legend",
"Herne the hunter" from the same show,
"Lothlorien" - instrumental piece inspired by elven realm from "lord of the rings",
"the Celts" - gorgious, mystical piece, I m sure inspired by some Irish legend, and great videoclip,
"Longships" - I guess it was inspired by vikings voyages, it feels as this kind of song written to work with oars,
"Book of days" - end titles song from costume movie "Far and Away" with N. Kidman and T. Cruise, about Irish migrants to America,
"May it be" - end titles song from "the Fellowship of the ring" (first part of LOTR trilogy),
"Adeste Fideles" - famous Latin Christmas carol,
"Aniron" - sad romantic song from LOTR,
"Forge of the Angels" - epic piece, it feels like when you wanted to film another Star Wars episode and hired ancient Celtic heroes as main cast :D
"Caribbean blue" - amazing videoclip, it connects you to this feel when you were a child dreaming of exotic far a way lands,
"Orinoco flow" - adventurous song, sailors song, and great videoclip,
"Only if" - for me its about hope and escaping mundane world,
"Exile" - AFAIR inspired by LOTR,
"Storms in Africa" - great drums and epic vocal,
"Journey of the Angels" - a joyous Christmas carol,
    "China Roses",
"Sancta Maria" - just repetition of St. Mary's name, it can be seen as a prayer,
    "Memory of Trees" - instrumental,
"Ebudae" - in Gaelic. What I could find about translation - it supposed to be about unending women's work, from down to sunset,
"River Sings" - epic, energetic Irish dance,

Enya famously perfected this "layered" vocal sound. She said in an interview that she has layered hundreds of vocals on top of each other in some of her songs. For example, the song "Angeles" from her album, Shepherd Moons, contains over 500 vocal layers--all sung by Enya and not auto-tuned. It is painstaking work. She really has a special gift to heal people with her music.

Try listening to 'China Roses', 'Paint the sky with Stars', and 'If I Could be where You Are'. Also 'Long long Journey' and 'Journey of the Angels'. There are many others over the eight albums she's done in 40yrs. They take about 3yrs to produce, and she likes to take a long break between albums. It's possible she may never produce another one. She's 62 now, and her lyricist and producer ( who are husband and wife) are in their 70s now. Nicky Ryan is a skilled sound engineer who created the Enya sound, and Roma Ryan is a poet. Enya writes all the music and plays most of the instruments, and does all the singing. It's been just the three of them creating these productions over 40yrs.

All of the vocals are her. This song used around a hundred audio clips of her voice layered together. She also plays most of her own instruments.

She’s either an angel or an alien. Or both. To me though she has the absolute most beautiful singing voice ever.

Maddy, if you like Enya as so many of us do and you'd like to explore more of her music, I would begin with "A Day Without Rain." Another favorite is "Fallen Embers."
