Take no notice of hurtful comments. This is a good video. Before using sandpaper, try using an eraser to remove carbon build up on the commutator, it may work. Also, eventually the capacitor will go bad. The ends will bulge and the motor may not be able to be tuned off without disconnecting the power supply. This capacitor is to stop radio waves being created by the motor switching rapidly on and off, which causes interference with old televisions and radios. The capacitor can be replaced with an identical one, of more commonly these days removed as the interference does not cause problems with modern TVs. There may also be a capacitor in the foot pedal which can also be removed or replaced. The usual warnings about working with vintage electrics apply of course. I am really enjoying your channel particularly the tailoring tips. Thank you. All the best.
I didn't find this video before I tackled the motor and now I know the graffiti brushes are broken... Do you know where I can purchase them? Thank you for the wonderful video!
hi i want to ask about this motor. first im new to this so really dont know anything about it. i work in a company that manufacturing fishing rod. they use 50 sewing machine to install paint (using paint brush) to the fishing rod by using this kind of motor. the thing is, it will got replaced every single week. the maintenance team always shorten or make smaller of that rectangle black carbon with spring (i guess its called brush). i confused why did they do that? i ask them but they dont have certain answer. they keep saying if they make it shorter or smaller, it will go faster. is that right? and what is the function of that carbon brush exactly? THanks a lot
Brushes are necessary to form contact on the surface of the rotor. The longer the brush, the greater the force of the spring pressing them against the surface of the rotor commutator. I don’t understand why they need to be shortened, they themselves are erased from prolonged work. They need to be replaced with new ones if they are too short. And the second point. The surface of the brush pressed against the rotor must have a semicircular shape. Draw your own conclusions, I'm not an electrician.
Singer motor model hf 07150 don't have any graffiti brush holes and no screws and bolts to open on that side of the motor And how can I take out the 2 big pointed screws...
@@sewway Well I have to do my own thing...! Service centres in Trinidad don't have much of a knowledge since I repaired my own Serger Sewing Machine and they wasn't capable of doing such.

@Sewway mine doesn't look like most videos I've seen so it's annoying 😅 it looks like that, but even after removing I'm having issues with the motor. It won't turn off!
The diameter of the wire is determined as follows: wind 10 turns on pencil and measure the width of 10 turns with a ruler, divide by 10. Get the size of the wire thickness. Determine the number of turns can by unwinding the wire. But you yourself will not be able to replace the wiring. Better to buy a new electric drive.
According to my sewing machine repairman, the commutator has worn down and the entire motor needs to be replaced. Is there a way to restore the commutator?
Thanks so much for this video, the sandpaper trick worked a treat on my sister's sewing machine motor and got it working again 😁
Very thin sandpaper. Thank you

The music is terrible, but the video is so clear and really empowering for those who are afraid of tackling the stuff...I will now, thank you.

Agree 100% about the annoying music but it is easy to mute the sound since there is no speaking in the video.
So basically it’s just an universal motor with commutator and carbon brushes! Good to know and tnx for sharing with us.

May I know what is to be repair with the sewing motor if it gaves only a small sound?
If the engine in the car is running quietly, is it bad? Similarly, the sewing machine motor.

This video is made only to explain how the sewing machine electric motor works.
All repair issues should be addressed in service centers.

Can you show a video of how to remove the capacitor?
To remove the capacitor, you will need an electric soldering iron.
@Sewway mine doesn't look like most videos I've seen so it's annoying 😅 it looks like that, but even after removing I'm having issues with the motor. It won't turn off!
where can i order this sewing machine motor TJ brand
I don't know maybe amazon.com
What happens if the bearings are bad? How do you replace them. One of mine wobbles.
The motor will make a lot of noise, and over time, the bearing may jam
The motor of my sewing machine has spark while I am sewing is that normal?Tia for the answer
I need the size of capacitor and how to test the capacitor if it is Ok
The capacitor does not affect the operation of the motor, it only dampens radio interference. Feel free to remove it

This is a complex type of repair, you need a master. I would help you, but I think the airfare will be too high.

Gamitan pa na ug transformer Ang motor
Kon ikaw adunay boltahe nga 220 volts, nan gikinahanglan ang usa ka step-down transformer alang niini nga motor (kini mao ang 110 volts).
