Well car prices are just starting to come down. I've been looking at a new used car for some time and while prices are still high, they're definitely starting to come down. A three year old A4 or 3 series used to be about 35-37k and now they're down to 32-34k. Folks are realizing that if they're patient they can get a much better price by simply waiting. I've noticed inventory is sitting on lots for multiple months before they disappear now

Yup, with rising interest rates, defaulting auto loans, and supply ticking up while demand is plummeting, prices are only going down from here.

The gearing on that thing is really not all at all. If you're not downshifting on the highway, your gearing is too short. (If you can drive uphill in your top gear, you are wasting a lot of fuel going downhill) Internal combustion engines use a huge portion of their power output just to pump air around, and this is especially true when you're barely putting a load on the engine, as when going downhill.
My 94 accord will pull itself up a 3% grade in 5th gear at 65 mph at 2500 rpm. Since I have only 5 gears, I have to use the same 5th gear to go downhill as well. Unfortunately that means I have to spin the engine and waste a lot of fuel. For a small 4 cylinder to rev freely, it needs about 0.25 gallons per hour of fuel per 1000 rpm. So at 2500 rpm, I need about 0.62 gallons per hour just to spin the engine. Going up a hill I might need 3.00 gallons per hour worth of power, so I use 3.62 gallons per hour total for an MPG of 17.9 but the running cost of the engine is only 17.1% of the total energy investment. Since that's about the maximum power output I can do at that rpm, it's pretty good. Compare that to going down a hill. If I go down the same hill I might need only 0.2 gallons per hour worth of power, so I use 0.82 gallons per hour, for an MPG of 79.3, but the act of simply spinning the engine and pumping all that air is 75.6% of the energy investment. Imagine if I had a gear where I could rev at 1500 rpm at 65 mph, so the running cost of the engine goes down to 0.37 gallons per hour. Now I only need to use 0.57 gallons per hour total to send the car down the hill and my mpg goes up to 114. I can of course just shift to neutral, idle at 750 rpm using 0.19 gallons per hour and just ride down the hill at terminal velocity. If that's only 45 MPH, that's still 237 MPG, which is why strategically coasting in neutral is amazing for fuel efficiency, and sometimes coasting in neutral but a few MPH slower than you would otherwise drive saves a massive amount of fuel. RPM really is the enemy of fuel efficiency. Many CVTs these days will let even small 1.5L engines do 1600 rpm at 65 MPH. Toyota hybrids can rev at 990 rpm at 65 MPH going down which is mind blowing for efficiency.

Don't forget about the Kia/Hyundai Challenge. Any 12 year old kid with a USB cable🔌, a screwdriver🪛, and a rock🪨 can drive away in less than 10 minutes.
That is unless it catches fire 🔥first.
