      Hi David, I think the triangle isn't on all of the genuine copies. The Bellsound and SF are important and if your Phil & Ronnie looks the same as in the video then you've got a real one. Thanks for your comment

    I still have my Red Apple Gatefold Beatles “Let It Be” LP that I purchased as a boy around 1970-71…so I’m certain it’s the real thing. Still one of my favorite records to this day.

  • @johnnytheg

    Great video, the only thing is the "I AM" in the triangle only signifies that it was pressed at the Scranton plant. My copy is legit and it has a 0 stamped in the dead wax which indicates that it came from the Jacksonville plant. Each Capitol pressing plant had it's own code. Discogs lists all the dead wax variants for the original legit pressings of Let It Be. I've got the Bell Sound and the SF and all the other indicators that it's a legit copy.

      My copy that I purchased soon after it was released back 50+ years ago has everything but the “IAM” in the triangle. I’m sure my Beatles LP is the real Red Apple Label version because of when it was purchased by me personally…no doubt about it. Unfortunately, as a young boy, I wasn’t very careful when playing my records so they were scratched badly but I played them constantly back when they were new and enjoyed them for many years. Now it’s CD’s or MP3’s of those old LP’s that I play mostly.

    I have them both. One other clue is that the label on side two is offset and you can actually see that someone took a photo of an original. The red label is actually a green label with red tint. The reason for the red label was that United Artist owned the rights to the soundtrack and they could not release it on the green Apple label. So, instead of following the Capitol records numbering scheme that was used on all of the US Beatles Apple records, United Artist decided to us the "AR" prefix. The red Apple label is all we knew of here in the states. I was actually surprised when I entered a used record store in the late 70's and saw a copy of Let it be on the Green apple label. I never knew that they existed in the Green Apple label. Let it be was eventually re-issued on the Capitol label and gone was the gatefold sleeve. Instead, a poster was included inside the record jacket with a photo of what was originally inside the gatefold sleeve. The same thing happened with the Hey Jude album. That album was deleted and the counterfeit copies started to show up. Eventually, Capitol re-issued that one as well. Hope this helps.

Yeah Im very pleased with my find as 40 odd years of label envy of my mates copy have finally ended. Like you say I should probably compare it against my original Uk LIB as i havent played that for a while as i tend to reach for the 2009 remastered copy if Im playing the album - that's why it made me laugh when I saw my teenage writing on the inner sleeve - I'd completely forgotten that I'd done that :-). So did your red apple tick all the 'clue' boxes as being a real one? If you wanna get a fake one just for the hell of it, there are plenty on eBay quite cheap and most of the sellers are in the US so you wont have to pay anywhere near what I had to pay for P&P.

    United Artists had the rights to distribute the Let It Be LP in the USA until 1975. Since Capitol had nothing to do with the release at the time, this gave counterfeiters a chance to cash in after. Another distinguishable factor on all US counterfeits is they all have either a cut corner or a drilled hole. This is how they were able to get into shops as fake un-returnable counterfeits. Most shops just did not know. There were multiple counterfeiters and all counterfeit copies sound terrible; blurry, flat ironed and no dynamic range. Some copies I've heard sound like an AM transistor radio. When Capitol acquired United Artists in the late 70's, they then had the rights to press and distribute.The counterfeits which had been floating around in abundance at bargain prices for about four years, did not take long to disappear forever.

    • @beatleytonesbeatleschannel
      @beatleytonesbeatleschannel  2 года назад

      I always wondered why so many copies have the cut-aways. Im still not sure I understand why they had this cut out corner, did the original batch of real copies have this that the counterfeiters were trying to copy? Hey,
    Thanks for the great video. Thanks to your video I know I have a fake copy but to my eyes it’s a very good fake and I went back and forth over whether it was real. Cover looks real and it’s supposed to be a Winchester pressing which never had bell sound even on real copies so you can’t use that method. I was only able to figure it out based on the terrible sound quality, abnormally heavy disc (190 grams), and the fact that the sf and Phil and Ronnie looked similar, but not the same to the real thing.
