How these boys managed to write the essential 2020 song back in 1992 I will never know but somehow they foresaw all the desperation, death and absurdity burning together
mid west -rusted out hell holes -dead /dying towns they are not cities -no cathedral-haha -if folks would get a shave and polish their shoes -haha wake the fuvk up.its good to be alive life is great -eat some fruit not mc crap -its your own fault -you act like victims -its up to yourselves --ps usmc is recruiting -they turn out a very high quality product -its a commin get prepped
Love these guys! I've seen them twice, and they are excellent live. The boys from Festus will definitely go down in the annals of great "Southern Rock" along with Skynard and Hatchet.
I always forget about this band until someone mentions a cheap trashy car. Then I binge them for several hours. Love these guys and It seems like every time I look them up I find a new song. Like this one!
Lyrics Ever see that damn thing, that burned out shell? For a little while that trailer must've seemed like Hell [Chorus] If kerosene works, why not gasoline? If kerosene works, why not gasoline? Kids wore rags, he never worked too much Who's the judge to decide how this world can punish? [Chorus] Now the welfare check won't pay for the electricity Wonder who the jury was decided they were all guilty? [Chorus] Fire started 'bout 3 am, you know none of 'em would survive They hated that goddamn trailer, so it burnt 'em up alive [Chorus] In a pure perfect world that tells no lies Burn you down you try to improvise [Outro] If kerosene works, why not gasoline? If kerosene works, why not gasoline? If kerosene works, why not gasoline? If kerosene works, why not gasoline?
WHAT A GREAT FUCKING SONG! Every time I write a song...I put it against this one...That's my FIRST MISTAKE...I mean...seriously..."Who's the judge to decide how much this world could punish?" REALLY...REALLY...HOW DO YOU WRITE THAT...A...FUCKING...MAZING!

love the Bottle Rockets, and this song, along with Welfare Music reminds me of when I was a kid..
It is. It's a true story, that happened in Missouri, not too far from where I live.
when I realized what the song was about, it hit me square in the chest.
Yup. Right in the feels, man, right in the feels.

Actually, about a half hour south of St. Louis. I actually know the guy who wrote this song. He's a teacher at a local high school.

You are so right! "punish" to rhyme with "much" -- who would come up with that? Pure genius IMO! This song and its lyrics just "work."
I love how he throws in the social commentary, it's a sad song but it's also kind of funny in a sad way what a great artist
It's kind of a I laugh to keep myself from crying thing.
It’s Prine-like in that regard.
Thanks for posting this GREAT song.
Great band, great fun!
it is. I used to date the original bass player's (tom ray) sister. I got to spend a little time with tom. straight from the horses mouf.
Great song
2020's theme song without a doubt
Ha no shit! I live in SW Iowa, so probably not too far from me either lol
My dad was born in Emerson
makes me cry
+Cassie Lanaux I feel exactly the same way. The lyrics to this are so desperate.
it's the steel guitar...
@@matt4051steel guitar along side very emotional lyrics is a recipe for an amazing song.
Yeah. The heater.
Who's the judge to decide
how much this world can punish?
Post "Wave That Flag" if you can. I can only find live versions of it.
I think the result answers the question.
Well next time you see him tell him good song!
Is this song about a someone in a trailer park trying to put gasoline in their kerosene lamp and burning their trailer down?
cool
Someone local please link to the story
Great band. Nancy Sinatra is my fave......
probably.
This song could be more obvious about its subject
