Just rolled up on a wreck! Man was laying outside of his car and he covered his head with a towel for some reason and was bleeding from quite a few places. Was speaking on the phone just fine after he took the towel off his head and he said his leg is broke but the ambulance arrived basically as soon as I pulled over and got to him. Just had my vehicle medical bag with me but figured that there wasn’t much I could do. Love your vids, man!
VT Concerned Citizen Or if a DashCam was running you would have video. If I stopped my DashCam would capture about 160 degrees looking out my windshield and may capture me providing assistance.
Hey man, I ran into you during training a few months ago in a hospital MCI drill. I thought, “I feel like I know this guy really well and I remember him being a pretty cool dude.” Turns out the knowledge was one sided haha. Forgot I knew you from your training videos! You were really polite though, but I think you were like “how the heck do I know her?” Pretty funny moment. Definitely appreciate your dedication over the years to all the videos covering products, training topics, etc. thought I’d drop by and leave a message.
Would it help to put a hemostatic agent on the wound before placing the chest seal to try and stop some of the bleeding? Or would that interfere with the seal?
Great video!!!! I really like this format, honestly I'm going to buy only vented chest seals because I heard that non vented can worse a tension pnx or hemothorax
It's my understanding (from watching other video's) that a "dual" chest seal pack - containing one vented and one NON-vented chest seal - is probably a better option since the non-vented chest seal can be used for EXIT wounds while the vented chest seal goes over the ENTRANCE wound.
Living in the Midwest I often also wonder about how the below 0 temp effects them and the rest of my kit like alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, ect. It says don't let some things get below freezing bit I figure better to have a weak product than no product. I bet untill they get warm they are less sticky if it's like duct tape.....just a guess though
So wait. Are you saying chest seals are basically useless unless there is a sucking chest wound? Or did I misunderstand what you said at 0:32??? If you aren't treating anything then just gauze pack or Celox the living shit of it, pressure bandage where you can/tourniquet and transport ASAP...
Can someone please explain why you want the hole version? I thought the goal was to stop blood from leaving the body. If you place the hole above the wound, blood will still come out. Thank you.
Brandon Talley the goal of a chest seal is to seal the hole and prevent air from getting into the chest, and preventing a lung from collapsing/inflating. The vent is a one way valve that allows the air out but not in. Same with any blood coming out. A chest seal isn’t fixing the underlying damage just keeping it from getting much worse.
Chest seals are for treating Sucking Chest Wounds. The goal of a chest seal isn't to stop the bleeding. The bleeding is internal. The goal of a chest seal is to seal the chest cavity, because breathing mechanics require an air-tight chest cavity. When you breath, your diaphragm contracts and moves downward. This increases the space in your chest, creating negative pressure and forcing air into your lungs through your mouth to fill that space. If you have a hole in your chest, air will go through that hole, restricting the amount of air pulled into your lungs. The bigger the whole, the bigger the problem. Chest seals alleviate this issue but potentially create the issue of Tension Pneumothorax (a collapsed lung). This is where vents come in. "Tension Pneumothorax is the progressive build-up of air within the pleural space, usually due to a lung laceration which allows air to escape into the pleural space but not to return" (trauma org). This build-up restricts the amount of air pulled into your lungs. Chest seal vents alleviate this issue by allowing air to escape the chest cavity if needed. The vents are designed to let air out but not in.
Brandon Talley it allows air inside the chest cavity that’s not inside the lungs to escape on exhale yet doesn’t allow any air in to the chest on inhaling. Look up sucking chest wounds
@@SkinnyMedic ive never heard that before. I assume excess bleeding treated then covered with chest seal. Why cover with cheat seal just because possibility of round hitting plureal cavity?
@@armypenguin Hemostatic, as you noted above. Surely, you could pack the abdominal (obviously not a chest wall) wound with gauze, however it might not be the best approach, as the packing material would get coagulation, would get adhered to tissue and would have to be removed or excised by the surgeon. In the field, you'd make do with what you'd have.
I've only been trained on asherman chest seals with that tube to allow exit of pressure.
Nice everybody needs to carry a basic medical kit with tourniquet on or near them 24/7

The compact size is awesome. Will definitely be ordering some.
Can you do a video on how to stop major bleeding in the neck?
Yes, please?!?!?!
Pressure dressing. Wrap goes under arm opposite side of neck wound. Don't apply so much that you cut off airway.
@skinnymedic I don’t see a lot of vids on farm/agriculture trauma. Was wondering if you had any dealings with those type of traumas. Thanks
Another great video Skinny. Thank you!
Love the videos and the podcast! Thank you for everything you do!
Super explanation. Greetings from Germany!

🤔 do they offer ifak sized pounch with both vented and unvented pair or just separated
Is it correct to say that the "burping" of the chest seal should be done on the EXhale?
Can you do a video on the north American rescue PPE kit that no one seems to know about

What the best way to store expired chest seals? I would hate to just throw them away.
SigBoy 1911 use them for training!
Angel Psyche-Toy great idea
Hello again Skinny How do you know wether to use a vented or non vented chest seal im confused?

Thank you for the replies! If you get shot in the stomach or upper chest, should you always use a chest seal or only on a sucking chest wound?

Hey Skinny have you had any experience with the iTClamp®? Would love to see a video sometime if so. Thanks
Great video. Do you have an updated ifak with these?
Which is better to use? Vented?
Are there any up coming trauma classes in the Maryland area? Or even P.A. or V.A. ?
Super channel,greetings from Holland😘
I can't find them for sale anywhere online...
I just saw on your website and ordered. I meant to add a stretch tourniquet to the order dang.

Do these new smaller package vents come in your essential kit???
What's Better Vented or Non Vented?
@That Dude would be good if you got one of each in a pack for this reason

@@SkinnyMedic thank you
When're you going to start promoting a decomp needle?
Too much liability with non-certified people using those.
Chest seal on abdomen?
