The tapes and cassette players like the ones in this film are old school from the 1980's. My husband used to make me mix tapes using these types of tapes and players back in the 80's when we were dating (I've been married for 39 years). My guess is this concept is set in that time period before they go to school at Decelis' Academy which is in the city of Riverfield. From the Dark Moon Sound Track concept and album stuff we learn that over time and different decades they have to change locations and identities to hide the fact that they don't age and to keep from being hunted.
