Americans don’t understand car markets are very different in other countries. The UK is super cheap to buy a car, but very expensive to register and insure it. So cars that won’t, or need work to pass MOT (or inspection) they get super cheap.
Out of all the youtube car channels I've watched so far, you guys stand out with your genuineness and chemistry between the three of you. I cannot express how excited I am when my phone notifies me about a new video. If you manage to maintain the quality of your videos, you are without a question a 10M subs channel in a few years. I'm a huge fan of yours and I will be cheering for you along the way. Similar ones without the sc look to be going for less than £2000 so presumably, if a garage were to do the work and it be over £1000 then its priced fairly. That said, it's an absolute steal and I can't wait for this series.

It just comes through Alex has cracked the code what has made petrolheads to watch TopGear for many years. I love others on YT (many have been mentioned here) but the spice is missing from all but not here. That is the code Alex has figured out. Joke, bunter, actual facts, and fun to watch topic driven videos like this one shortly coming up. Having Misha tying up the cathartic finish is just a genius move. I am not at all surprised why this channel is growing fast. Alex has managed to capture why many of us missing the TopGear but thought nothing what BBC came up over the years was even remotely similar. We had to deal with the reality TG will not be coming back. Even GrandTour (Amazon) is not close just a shadow of the good old days. The atmosphere of the three was "unrepeatable" by a team of producers at the BBC. This is where Alex came in and did (and constantly do) repeat the recipe like a master chef. I wish this channel to grow and all three vital components Rory, Taylor and Alex to keep up this great show.
It's so difficult to replicate the magic of TG because it was about 3 friends having a banter. TV execs choose 3 ppl and try and script banter, here 3 friends are having fun with cars, plus, its even more natural as its not scripted (like TG was, although well done, you could sometimes tell). I think the focus on cheap cars further adds to relatability - these are cars sourced in advance, they just have some cash and a trailer (and dont always need that), so many of us could do the same, but as Alex points out, he's making the automotive mistakes so we don't have to.

I would love to think TG has made it big because JC had the secret sauce how to make it so fruitful in terms of revenue. Amazon has made a good profit realizing the potential in JC in farming too. He is inevitably knows how to draw an ugly picture and still sell it for good money. I personally don't agree with most of his views but see his value in the media machine. Alex in my view has stripped off everything questionable or exposed to political criticism and kept the vital parts of making a show make us laugh. Would you agree on the point if it was only Alex alone you would not pay as much attention compared to every other UK YT car channels in existence? Having three guys (well selected) seems like the recipe? If your answer is you won't, why is car throttle not having the same uplift? I think it is the cohesion and Alex has now his own initiative, so he can pull.

Played along. £5000 = about $6300. Found a 2001 Honda Prelude for $3200. Needs a new EGR valve & muffler. Has new coilovers & tires. Comes with new headlight assemblies, clutch, brake pads & rotors that aren’t installed. With all that & $3000 to play with, a Prelude could be a monster.
That is such an awesome deal. I picked up a '91 E30 318i with a blown engine for only $200 in 2020, swapped in a running M42 (basically same as z3) for $500 and it's been the best car ever since. I will probably never find a deal that good again lol.
I remember when my dad passed away and we had to sell his 90's Alfa Spider, it was heart braking. I got to drive it for the first and only time before the guy came to look at it, just to check it over and fill it up. I made sure I got a good price for it but I'm sure Glen would be please to see some one take the car who can hopfully treat it with respect.

A really nice mod you can do to the 1.9 is to find the rear bumper, quarter panels and side skirts from an early 2.8 and convert it to widebody spec. You can then fit the Z3m wheels on it (you can't put these on the 6cyl cars as the hubs are wider and the wheels sit too proud, but you can do it to a 1.9). Did this to mine years back and it looked great. Of course the Z3m wheels are about £1k if u can find a set ... but looks like u have plenty of budget spare!!! Insane price you got that for ... nice one guys!!
If you're looking for cheap fairly powerful V6 for Alex, then highly recommend a Legnum. Twin Turbo V6. Reliable, rare and not a BMW...a few around for under £5K.

My picks for sub 5k cars are: 4 cyl: 2003+ ZZW30 MR2 for about 2500, put rest into coilovers and some aero and tyres. Alternatively fish for an engine swap project. V6: 06-11 Lexus GS450h. Luxury barge, but nothing stock can hope to outrun it in this price bracket. You can get a ratty one for under 5k, but most go for around 6 or 7k V8: No clue. Maybe some Audi S car or a Benz? V10: Rare Volkswagen diesel V12: Those 1980-1995 Jaguars were dirt cheap few years ago, those had V12's, but they are way more trouble than it is worth.
I'd usually groan "Oh another BMW, great", but even as someone who doesn't care much for BMWs, a supercharged Z3 in that condition for 650, WTF? I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
Guys I love your content, and admittedly as much as I didn't wanna see another BMW, this Z3 is amazing. But please, please think more outside the box, 5k gets you soooo many great 4 pot cars, like a 2010 Mégane RS, Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, Abarth 595, MK2 Audi TT, MK1/2 Audi S3, literally soooo many more interesting options, like cool, you like BMWs and that Z3 is great, but I'd love to see a much bigger diversity.

I wish he could get a 986 porsche or an audi TT mk1 and it'd make the whole chanel perfect... Beautiful Z3, I've been wanting one for years, but you can only run so many cars as a normal civilian :(
I had a 99 318ti with an M44 motor and the Downing Atlanta Supercharger! Made 200hp to the wheels. Only adjustment I made is a smaller pulley for the blower! Good car it was..

Alex I would say a GolfR32 would be a great idea for the V6, awd, good power and sounds amazing stock. Stick a good exhaust on it it will be the best car for sure

DASC Downing Atlanta Supercharger kit for M42/M44 is a fantastic kitt. I've had one on my e36 compact for 10 years with no issues. Awesome job finding that!
Love the z3 especially with how much money Taylor has left to spend on it but I can't wait to see what Alex gets, really want to see him get either a vr6 car or get a v6 diesel to surprise people.
You really can get some bargains in the UK .. I've had a few over the years myself ! Mk1 focus rs in 2014 for £5000 , mk4 astra gsi turbo £1700 , Clio 182 trophy 2013 £3200 .. and a mint dc5 Integra 2015 for £5000 .. for those who can't comprehend UK bargains 😎
It's an incredible car for the money, but for sheer tunability, I'd have been picking a 9-5 Aero, fairly cheap still and on stock internals, 400bhp is fairly attainable!

Alex I would say a GolfR32 would be a great idea for the V6, awd, good power and sounds amazing stock. Stick a good exhaust on it it will be the best car for sure
I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress on this. You can't beat the howl of a supercharged engine on full chat. Modded tastefully with the right bits and this will be a very nice car for not a lot of money
DASC Downing Atlanta Supercharger kit for M42/M44 is a fantastic kitt. I've had one on my e36 compact for 10 years with no issues. Awesome job finding that!
Love the z3 especially with how much money Taylor has left to spend on it but I can't wait to see what Alex gets, really want to see him get either a vr6 car or get a v6 diesel to surprise people.
You really can get some bargains in the UK .. I've had a few over the years myself ! Mk1 focus rs in 2014 for £5000 , mk4 astra gsi turbo £1700 , Clio 182 trophy 2013 £3200 .. and a mint dc5 Integra 2015 for £5000 .. for those who can't comprehend UK bargains 😎

It's an incredible car for the money, but for sheer tunability, I'd have been picking a 9-5 Aero, fairly cheap still and on stock internals, 400bhp is fairly attainable!

I’m not a massive fan of them myself, but they’ve made a few cars I really like. The MK4 Astra GSi Turbo is a great car and may have been a good option for this challenge.
When taylor said he didn't like vauxhalls that was a stupid move because you can easily get a £3500 astra vxr with 280+bhp maps😂 highly underrated cars imo and a strong engine just ignore the gearbox whining it's head off if need be 😁 love mine to bits honestly
