      We use a lot of fossil fuels per capita, though. That's largely because of our weather extremes and our distances. However, we also have the resources -- wind, sunshine, tides, manufacturing, technology -- to convert more to renewable energy.
      As to manufacturing having left -- we import a heck of a lot of plastic junk from China. We could do less of that too and reduce their emissions as well.

    • @beyondfossil
      @beyondfossil 2 дня назад +2

      Canada has high per-capita emissions. Furthermore, Canada is usually amongst the top 3 of oil exporters every year and that doesn't get counted into per-capita emissions.
      Economically, Canada cannot be a "freerider" as the world transitions away from fossil fuels. The price per barrel of oil could fall below that the cost to produce that barrel. If we haven't diversified our economy away from fossil fuels by then, Canada will have a serious problem. Even today, if the price of oil starts falling, provinces like Alberta have to re-do their budgets!

The fact is the carbon tax does nothing for the people paying it, but it make things worse. We pay it everywhere, on anything, and for what? For money to be funneled overseas for things that make no sense. Is the money collected in taxes making the country more prepared for climate change? No its not. Its a tax meant to line pockets. All the while increasing debt, inflation, interest rates, housing costs, immigration issues, scandal after scandal with TAX PAYER money.
      Millions spent in Africa to stop people from defecating on the beaches there. Why? While many kids and their families go into poverty in Canada, Canada will be sending millions to Jordan to help with poverty stricken kids there. Why? Trying to help Ukraine by sending billions when we cant even protect our boarders or stop the reckless demonstraions/riots in our cities. Why? The list is immense and all you have to do is look around. These are not lies being told. These are things actually happening.
      The problem is too many simple minds have come together for the Liberal and NDP parties. It's that simple. I dont think the problem is with people like @mcampbe41 that speak the truth. I think the problem lies with ignorance and stupidity. "The budget will balance itself" and " The federal goverment is not responsible for housing" come to mind. Plastics and polymers represent a tiny fraction of total petroleum usage. The world burns through some 100-million barrels of oil just in a single day. You could pave a plastic highway across Canada with a few days' worth of that. Without the energy portion of crude, the fossil fuel industry would collapse and be restructured into just a supplier of long chain hydrocarbons for creating polymers used in chemical and industrial uses.
      Furthermore, plastics and petroleum-based fibers are dangerous as waste builds up in the environment and also microplastics in the body. We could do with much less of that too.

      Climate change affects how much you pay for insurance or if you can get it at all if you live in a wildfire, hurricane, tornado or flood zone.
      Climate change affects our healthcare costs. A prolonged heat wave can put hundreds of people in the hospital.
      Climate change affects our food costs. Droughts, floods, heat waves, early frosts, insect pests -- all reduce yields for grains, vegetables, and fruits. And ask anyone with a backyard city garden if it still saves them money or has become an expense.
      Climate change affects infrastructure costs. A washed out highway isn't cheap. Neither is a flooded subway.
      Climate change is going to increase the number of refugees in the world by millions in the coming years, largely because of rising sea levels and stronger storm surges. It doesn't take much of a sea level rise if a large stretch of coastline is only a few feet above sea level. Higher tides are already polluting Florida's freshwater reservoirs.
      Now imagine artificial "trees" of solar panels in apartment, work or mall parking lots so that your car is shaded from the hot sun and refueled for free at the same time. Nice? They already do that in Saudi Arabia.

They're somehow all linked, because they're all happening for similar reasons, and they're all hard to prevent for similar reasons as well: endless growth and the race to siphon all the wealth towards those who already have the means to siphon it. Years ago this Green guy knocked o my door. Looked him up and down. Shoes were $300 and I can go on. I pointed out that it's nice he got his, then wants to pull the ladder up on us the poor.
    Now im wearing those shoes, but remember all too clearly how I felt that day. Drill baby drill.

    Your eyeglasses are made from fossil fuels 🤔

    • @beyondfossil
      @beyondfossil День назад

      It is not made of fossil fuels.
