Brilliant footage of an adored icon! She gave all in her performances! you know what else I loved about her? she dressed like no one else - wholesome, even when she wore beads and sequins. a little bit nerdy. and then the bouffant 'do's' - i loved her style - it was like no other - she was unique in every way.
We can be eternally grateful that the magnificent Dusty had one flaw - she couldn't mime for toffee! She was clearly more comfortable with singing live, and the result is a whole library - mainly thanks to gferdinandus - of jaw-dropping talent. Her live version of "I don't want to go on without you" has got to be right up there as possibly the best live pop performance ever, don'tcha think?
GO DUSTY!!! We love you and you will be forever missed. Marvin must have dropped dead after he heard her sing it. She could always sing a song and make it sound better than the original!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I was just thinking the same thing myself! I’m a black guy who feels every atom of soul that Dusty resonates in her performances. I also find it extremely difficult to think of any European woman other than Teena Marie and Amy Winehouse that had this natural gift and love that came out in their songs and performances. Dusty is a GODESS in my eyes and heart. Her talent is still irrefutable and stands alone with these few exceptional wonders. Miss you Dusty and we are truly blessed to have “Witnessed” your pure soulful energy. You’ve got a witness in me Beautiful. ✨♥️💯👑

She kicked the Door Open for Every British Blue Eyed Soul Singer from Amy Winehouse (RiP), Duffy, Joss Stone, Jessie J., Lisa Stansfield, and of course Adele.
This is hands down the best youtube video for when you're feeling like shit. The terrible dancing, the out of sync miming, the outfits, Dusty looking like an excitable librarian and that insanely powerful voice running through the whole thing.
I love Marvin Gaye but Dusty is giving him a run for his money she's even dancing the way black folks do in church notice how she jumps back a.little bit the girl did her homework she loved black music and unlike a lot of white singers that try to have soul but fail maybe not financially but definetly to my black ears Dusty was always on point
Wow! What an awesome soulful rendition of a great Marvin Gaye song that was one of John Lennon's favorites. That's the joy of rock and soul right there, the way I felt at a Ray Charles concert in the early sixties. She killed it. In a good way!!
Dusty looked like she was having such a great time dancing around doing this lip sync. She was enjoying the reaction of the audience to her. She got a lot of them fired up alright. So nice to see her getting such a kick out of it. What a robust vocal she laid down here. The early days.
She wasn't lip syncing, she was live singing to a recorded backing. Common practice in back in the day and obviously different from the released singles.
She doesn't have a microphone and sometimes her lips aren't moving yet she is singing. An obvious lip sync. But I do know that there were cases when she did sing live to recorded backing tracks, I like that better. She did that with "I Only Want To Be With You." I still like this regardless, her boundless energy. The good old days, she was having a fantastic time. But the vocal was pre-recorded. They did that too sometimes on t.v. shows back in the day.
Dusty totally blew a certain London-based blues quintet out of the water, who recorded this on their first album. Her version makes one say..."the Rolling who..?"
no, i dont know what delta gospel is, I know what gospel is, maybe its the same thing, i dont know. But in my simplistic view, soul means singing from the soul, which means its not just about the technical ability of the vocals, but the singers ability to make you "feel" the music dusty had a great voice, but people feel the songs.
Nice! We could've never seen a performance like this in the racist America of the early 60's. I can only imagine the concerts off camera... must've been something special.
Dusty so desperately wanted to go dancing with the crowd. It was hard for her to focus on lip-syncing to the lyrics. She appeared to be having a ball during this TV performance.
I'm not a prude, but I think this is way sexier than modern music videos which border on soft porn. Those feel more manufactured. The way she moves in this video just makes you want to move with her.
Most songs during the 1950s and 1960s lasted only that long. 45 RPM records were ideal for this amount of singing/performing time. Also, during this time period, record companies and music artists were focused on selling singles, which provided the most money for everyone involved. If a music artist had two or three hit singles, the record label would then release an LP/album of music made during the recording session. Occasionally, a music artist sometimes had to go back into the recording studio to record more songs, because he/she/they did not anticipate such musical success.

A very convincing soulful performance for sure. She was a true legend in blue eyed Soul music, with true authentic energy and soul.
Dusty makes this song her own. What a singer.
Just saw this for the first time. Sheer exuberance! Great energy! Soulful, strong vocal! Fun!
she certainly does - beautiful voice on a beautiful woman!

Lip-syncing to the recording.

This song from Marvin is full of soul ask Dusty,
Absolutely brilliant dusty is one of the best if not the one vocally
Her real name is Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien. I wish she sang more songs like this.
She was wonderful
Dusty was incredible! R.I.P.
WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!! Dusty had so much Soul.

You forgot Lulu and Alison Moyet but Agreed, she was so good, MOTOWN sought HER out when across the pond!
How about Annie Lennox?
Ten years later and that's still a pretentious comment.
The guy in stripes behind her in the beginning of the video has awesome footwork!!
OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE HER
she could sing a menu and give it soul
Spectacular and so versatile!!
Happy Birthday sweet Dusty. You are missed!

Jaw dropping stuff, and gives it that extra oomph compared to the original.

The Brits knew good American songs better than Americans did!!!

No, it was in England. Dusty had her own show on TV called Dusty.
