As a Nigerian, you usually don't speak or understand other tribal language except you live in close proximity with other tribes or have at parent who speaks another tribal language.
We generally have to communicate in English or Pidgin.

The Hausa tribe is predominantly spoken in Northern Nigerai with with over 57 million people. Hausa is mostly spoken in Northern Nigeria, even though most northern Nigerian have got their own indigenous tribes.
Hausa speaking tribes can be found also be found in Niger republic, chad, Cameron, Ghana.
There are also hausa in Niger Republic with about 56 % of the population. Today numbering 16 millions...
Hausa people are from one tribe, one root. The terms used for the subgroups are either related to the regions they inhabited (like Gobir= Gubur) , Adarawa (Region of Adar) or an historic fact (the Takari in Sudan, Erythrea and Jerusalem....).

True. Hausa/Fulani languages are one of the most spoken languages in Africa. I'm Yoruba and speak Hausa very well. Amongst the richest list,they have Aliko Dangote, Dantata family, Mohammed Indimi, Theophilus Danjuma, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Umaru Abdul Mutallab etc.
Hausa are different from fulani. They are two different tribes and not related.
Mohammed Indimi is not fulani or hausa he is Kanuri from Borno state. Theolphilus Danjuma is not fulani or hausa either, he is from Takum in Taraba state.

Fulani are not indigenous to Nigeria and they are the problems in the North. Hausa people are very calm and nice people. It took the whole country a long while to learn the difference.

The Hausa in eritreA were Muslim migrants from Nigeria. They ended up settling in southwest eritrea due to pilgrimage back from Mecca. Some of them didn’t go back to Nigeria, there isn’t a big population there now but yeah that’s the story. As for their dna , I think the girl might have Arab admixture along with west African.

In Nigeria we generally communicate in Pidgin or English, but at least 90% of Nigerians can speak at least 3 languages. so for example if an Igbo or Yoruba or any other tribe person is born in the North or spend a lot of time there, the person will be able to speak 4 Languages at least which would be (Igbo or Yoruba or any other tribe), Hausa, Pidgin and English. So in general if you are born in a place other than your state of origin, you are most likely going to adopt the local language common in that state plus your native language together with English and Pidgin. And Hausa is the Easiest Language in Nigeria to learn in my opinion.

Im from the north and not Hausa. Many people resident in the North speak and understand Hausa. Nigeria has 36 states and the fed. Captial territory. My state alone has over 54 languages and Hausa is one of them. We generally speak Hausa in the markets especially with their traders.
We also speak English to those who are fluent or understand and they are quite a number... Because of our diversity, English is our formal language.

Hausa people like horse riding, Durbar festival, and the society is heirarchical with the Emir as the head of the Emirates unlike the Igbo who are republican oriented. Cattle rearing is a major occupation. The are often very tall and wear flowing gowns/kaftan.

Hausa is part of the Afroasiatic languages, also known as Hamito-Semitic, or Semito-Hamitic, and sometimes also as Afrasian, are a language family of about 300 languages that are spoken predominantly in the geographic subregions of Western Asia, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and parts of the Sahara/Sahel.
Hausa is spoken mostly in Northern Nigeria so if you live there or intermarried, you may learn to speak Hausa but we communicate in pidgin on a national and social basis. Pure English is our official Lingua-Franca in Nigeria.
Well in Nigeria, English is the official language. Pidgin comes in when the need arises to communicate depending on what part of Nigeria you reside in (most especially the south side). The three major groups, igbo, hausa and yoruba are major major. So, if you're from another tribe and you had the luxury of growing up in any of the other tribe location, it's an opportunity for you to learn how they speak mix with them ( a plus to your lingua skills), if you not then English could serve as the mode of communication or pidgin.
And I'm from the ijaw tribe, a minority tribe in the south.
No northern nigerians don't speak English most of the time and they don't speak pidgin mostly they use hausa everytime

Pidgin is still commonly spoken in nigeria but here is the catch. The major cities that have pidgin as their choice of communication are the southern states of nigeria, and same thing goes for the northern part of the country with hausa as their main language of choice.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
We (the people of nigeria) have other languages, cultures, tradition and way of life. We have 36 states in nigeria (lagos been the smallest by land mass) and in each state, you might have 15 to 50 different tribes (they might have different dialect of speaking their native language but have similarities in their culture) which brings us back to the hausa and pidgin misconception . Its not like people from the northern part dont understand pidgin, but their culture, way of life and interactions with neighbors depend on hausa language. Not all are hausa by tribe. Same goes for the southern part of the country with pidgin (except that majority of southerners don't really bother to learn hausa because they already have pidgin. But the hausa's understand pidgin cuz its a broken english and the official language in nigeria is english)....
So dont worry, you can go to both the north and south and still communicate 😅.

With regards to speaking different languages, it’s usually a case of where you live or are brought up in Nigeria. My mum was from the urhobo tribe of Dellta state but she spoke you’re a because she grew up in Lagos and Hausa because she traded with them and had Hausa friends.

Hausa are Afro Asiatic people and their language is from the same group as Arabic , Hebrew , Amhara , Coptic Egyptian to name a few...
I did a lot of digging on this people .. My conclusion is Hausa are from Ethiopia or Abyssinia ( Habesha ) ... The Hausa called themselves : "Ba Habshey" literally means "from Habesha ( or Abyssinian ). "

This is interesting because on my DNA test which identified me as being Hausa says my halogroup derives from East Africa and was swept up in the Bantu expansion.

Yea... I've heard Hausa is the easiest language to learn. But nah, many don't speak it unless they have lived in the north for a while. Yes. Hausa people are conservative and live in close knit enclaves called 'Sabo' in other regions. Many people think everyone from the north is Hausa but that's wrong. A lot of minority groups also live in the north but they all understand Hausa.
I am Hausa from London and I am constantly mistaken for Sudanese or East African due to Hausa mixing with tribes such some Arabs as Tuareg. We are proud of who we are and are extremely culturally different from Yorubas and Igbo, I personally have nothing in common with them.

* we're found along the African belt from farthest west in the Gambia until the farthest east in Eritrea.

* we still practice spirituality despite the majority of us was converted to Islam by force, yet there are waves of awakening and getting back to our beliefs.
* we still believe in vodoo and proudly practice it and hand it down to our offspring. it is what the almighty gifted us.
* the modern science proves that we're the chosen people (Israelites). which our elders used to tell us centuries ago.
* we moved from the banks of Nile to western Africa where we built another great civilization (the Nok civilization) that lasted for 2000 years. from 500 BCE up to 1500 CE
* we ride horses for thousands of years and one of the most important conditions for the rulers of Hausa is to be professionals in horseback riding.
therefore we're the knights of Africa.
* we're known for being the most polygamous ethnic, great money makers and love our families especially our kids.
* we're very peaceful as long as we get it back. but when things go wrong we're fearless that makes sure that we write the end line for the fight.

Hausa businessmen don't chase the "limelight" unlike their Southern counterparts that's why you don't hear much about them.
They're very organised, their territories consisted of city states like Kano and Sokoto etc, and in ancient times served as intermediary for trade between the rest of Nigeria and North Africa. Their cities notably Kano was a terminus for the long camel trains that brought goods from North Africa (which included goods from Asia and Europe).
the information in this video is inaccurate. there's over 70m Hausas in Nigeria alone. Hausa is the largest tribe in Africa. I should know; i'm one of them

America step child is a country called Liberia located in West Africa founded by free slaves from the United States of America in 1822. Unfortunately it is the least developed country in Africa in my opinion but worth checking out to bridge the gap between African and African American.

Hausa is one of the three major groups in Nigeria. The other two is Yoruba and Igbo.
Hausas in Nigeria practiced Islam in a liberal way until they were conquered by Usman danfodio a fulani jihadist and they were forced to practice their religion in a fundamentalist way. Most hausa communities are governed by the fulani ethnic group whose work is mainly Nomadic cattle rearing. The fulani lives in communities with the hausas and they counted together have the highest population but if only the hausas tribe are counted alone the yorubas tribe have more population therefore, Yoruba is the largest single ethnic group in Nigeria in terms of population

see the irony. The ruling Fulani class claim to be the most honest people, yet they have ruled Nigeria for decades and perpetuated and officiated one of the most corrupt governance on earth. The Hausa people are a beautiful and great people, I have lived among them for years, and I preferred the North of old to now, where substance abuse and extremism are now the order of the day. Prone to extremism where devotion to religion is concerned but a beautiful and hardworking people. All Nigerians speak or at least understand pidgin which is used to communicate between people of another tribe and culture from yours.
Most common language in Nigeria is pidgin. Only few Nigerians can speak more than one language. As a result of maybe been born or trade business in a region that is not their region of origin. So they interact as a result learn their language.
So you speak your local language, English or pidgin. If you speak more than one local language, the person learnt it cos he or she lives in a region that is not their region of origin.

There are many Hausa/Fulani around me in Abuja and I get along with them. As well as Igbos and Yorubas.
