🤣🤣🤣 The funniest thing is that most surf nerds aren’t very good surfers or have the best boards for their abilities or catch the best waves either. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is true of pretty much every activity. A subset of practitioners who are more invested in the nerdery surrounding the activity than they are the activity itself. Music is a prime example
I hand shape all my boards. People can't get their head around the fact we don't need to know how many liters a board is to shape a board that's suitable for a particular surfer. Keep up the great videos. I used to shape for Roger Hall at Surfline in the 1990's. I miss NZ and the factory I now have my own label in Spain.
@@TheUltimateWriterNZ I didn't say it was irrelevant. I said I personally don't need or use that information. For people who use a shaping machine it's the only way they have to judge the volume. But that information is only valid if you know where the volume is. When I hand shape I'm adjusting the board constantly bringing it closer to the finished board. On a machine it produces what you tell it to. Let's hope the shaper knows what information to put in the machine.
I get asked that all the time. All my measurements are slightly off too. The board either surfs well or it doesn’t. I never even knew about liters as a measurement until the late ‘00s.
@@AlleyTrashBoards If anyone asks me I tell the 26 stubbies. That usually shuts them up. I try telling people on average waves for most surfers it's timing not liters that makes it easier to catch a wave.
@@catalinagomez924 Not grumpy lol... just gets very excited and enthusiastic about his prime time surfing Ulawatu and Tahaiti in the 80s & 90s 🤣 If you ever meet him, never ask whats the biggest wave you've ever surfed?...you will be there for hours🐬 🤣
Hm, not living any more close to the ocean I do enjoy "surf"-skating. I also do enjoy stand up paddling - where I sometimes do downwind "surfing" and occasionally am propelled by the waves generated by a ship or boat. But when I am at the ocean and I find waves to surf I do enjoy REAL surfing and do know it is the only thing that counts. Most people that nerd out about surf material should surf more to feel the difference of said material for any given conditions... Enjoy the beach life, many people can't :-( !!!
Don't feel ashamed. The author of these videos is triggered by stylish free surfing and surf skating for some reason. Not saying I don't love this channel's content though...but its existence is the ultimate first world problem
Off topic: the difference between freedom campers of the 2020’s and freedom campers of the 1960’s freedom pooping 💩 : the hippies knew how to use a shovel. To be fair, a lot of hippies had graduated college, so maybe that’s where they learned how.
...... I've been called out!!! I shaped my first board recently, it's a 6'2" asym with 'typical asym' fin slots as well as NPJ duo longboard boxes. While deciding where to put my fin boxes I got so far down the nerd hole I was reading actual research papers on surf fin hydrodynamics.... It's a PU blank with Basalt and Flax fibre cloth, including an offset biased tail patch, laminated with epoxy resin.... It also has a cork tailpad....
love this accounts videos. I do think surf skates are good for practicing surfing tho. I feel like a good surf session you may get like 5 good waves in like 2 hours+(I live in an area with good surf, but also a lot of good surfers), so you don't really get that much practice in the water. However, you can practice all the surf skate all day, you don't need waves(I get that it doesn't completely transfer over to surfing, but I have found it helpful).
yay, im finally a meme🥲. seriously though, nobody in their right mind should use polyester resin over epoxy. PU (polyurethane) is the name of the foam used for polyester resin boards. you can have a PU board made with epoxy resin. you guys seem to need education on the matter. you can msg me for more info. nvm, ill be in touch.
Perfect beach for it. Highly technical surf break this one. Quality sand eating skills is a must have.
proud surf nerd here. stop nerd shaming! now lets talk about fin flex patterns...
Dont get the blackstix or neo glass, they have toooo much twang
This just keeps getting better! Great acting.

I often see them show off their brand new sci-fi Slater Design boards on the parking lot and then just poo-stance into some close-outs later on.

There are now fins with integrated motors to catch waves. You should totally buy one of those

How come shapers always write it on the board if it’s irrelevant
@@TheUltimateWriterNZ to please the surf nerds

Have you tried quads on that board?
Does anyone know a good Surf Nerd Addicts Anonymous Group I can refer my dad to?
🤣🤣🤣🤣Is he a grumpy old man too?? That is also usually the case with a great deal of surf nerds.🤣🤣🤣
