@aigo6590 I'm just a bit younger and there's the distraction thing, forgetting what you were just going to do, and then getting up to use the bathroom every half hour! ;)
Glad you found an unique way to improve your reception. Cool! I know that you have been frustrated with the YT music playing limitations. However, personally, I have been able to follow your play-by-play descriptions of what you are hearing very well and I am not frustrated by not hearing what you are hearing. Yes, you will be better able to communicate things, when you find a solution. But, until then, I for one, wouldn't quit your channel. I hope that gives you some useful feedback and encouragement. To be honest, it brings back fond memories of the days when a crystal radio was a luxury and one family member would listen and tell the family the news of the day. Cheers.
Yes, I appreciate you taking the time to give useful feedback. And you're right, it is frustrating. In this case, even if I had my own transmitter it would not help, because I'd need multiple transmitters creating cross-talk to do the demo. I'm paranoid about the IP thing because I've gotten warnings for reading a paragraph out of a book, for music playing in the background that was inaudible to me in the final video, for using "free to use" sound effects, and finally, I've gotten multiple copyright claims on my own videos, with me as the "actor", writer, voice, with nothing in the background. It's a bear to work on a video for days, only to have to discard it. Thanks again.
Interesting experiment. 🤔 Looking at your circuit diagram I was wondering why you chose to use a ganged capacitor rather than two individual tunable capacitors? I'd love to know if that would have been a better option without the trimmer capacitor. Have you checked your diode to see if it's an authentic 1N34A version? I suspect all of mine are fakes. I recently watched a video on the "Ken Smith" RUclips channel where he compares the real version data sheet against another data sheet of a common diode that's sold as 1N34A and while similar the leakage was different between the two. He goes on to describe how he was able to add a resistor to his circuit to get the fake diodes to work better. I asked in the comment section of that video how to measure the leakage to determine for sure which diodes we had and he suggested a method to do this which neither of us has tried yet. I'd link to his video but RUclips often strips comments with links so you will need to find the "Ken Smith" channel and scroll through his videos to watch this video. He posted it 3 days ago so it's at the top of his list.
You can use individual caps, but a ganged cap is plain easier to use. Two 360s caps, plus another trimmer to tune every time you change the wiper would be a bother.
You have been busy. Thanks for the demonstration.
I'm on my way to making that antenna tuner and took a detour. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Distracted Zone!
@@tsbrownie hey I'm 74 and get distracted easily.

@@tsbrownie That reminds me I gotta pee.
@adnacraigo6590 It's like a yawn, it spreads. Now I gotta go.

Another approach with this equipment would be to make a fixed high q coil and tune resonance with the variable capacitor alone.

Would an adjustable loading coil between the antenna and radio help?
Contest radios put a filter between the antenna circuit and radio tuner.
Sorry, I'm not sure what that means
@@rogervaught3985 They do what you suggested. They call it a filter.
