journalists in conflict zones should strive to be clearly identifiable as journalists to ensure their safety and to fulfill their professional duties effectively. While there's no universal, legally binding requirement for a specific identifier like a press badge, the need to be recognizable is widely acknowledged.

Yes because she was told to leave and did not. That's how it is in the US. Reporters are not immune from lawful orders just for being the press. She was in a no press zone. Told to leave that zone. Stepping to the side as she stated, is not leaving that zone. They need to secure the area and can not do it with her standing in the area

@Ibuddy66 - Unfortunately, going by the voting turnout, a majority is ok with Trump being in power, as the power grabbing egomaniac he has been all along.
You see, only 30% voted against him.
Another 31% voted for him, and then a scary 38% just didn't care what happens and skipped voting against him.
38% apolitical, passive cattle who don't care at all who governs their children's future or what happens.
38% is halfways to the approximately 60% of russians that are passively apolitical and wiling to be dragged into whatever insanity as long as they can get out of responsibility and caring.
I'm sorry America, but you have a huge problem with a ton of people liking fascism, and another ton of them being ok with it.

A "journalist" has NO RIGHT to put herself BETWEEN rioters and the police, that makes her part of the riot.
The officer aimed and hit the pavement. After ORDER to clear the road the police has the RIGHT/DUTY to use force as teaser,,water etc.
A LEGAL démonstration needs a permit with exact road maps for SAFETY reasons, passage of ambulances/fire trucks and to prevent casualties in case if a mass panic
The police was there to protect businesses, traffic and order.
Many officers were severely attacked and lively hoods burned to the ground.

The cop didn’t “lose control” or “make a mistake” - he made a deliberate choice. This wasn’t about law enforcement, it was about abusing power. He saw a peaceful reporter, recognized her as press, and thought: finally, a chance to unload on someone without consequence. That’s not policing - that’s authoritarian thuggery. It’s not an accident when someone aims at a journalist with her back turned. It’s a symptom of a toxic culture where some US officers treat the Bill of Rights like toilet paper and see democracy as a threat to their egos.

It is the Democrat mayor of LA who allowed thugs to attack federal officers who allowed one of her cops to attack a foreign reporter. Her duty is to order the police to uphold the law when anarchists attack federal agents and buildings and set fires. She should also enforce the law against rogue LA cops who attack innocent people. It is more likely the same incompetence she showed in the fires than authoritarianism. She is just unfit for public office like many DEI hires.

This was a publicity stunt designed to gain sympathy for the protesters and especially the allegedly innocent peaceful protesters and inactive bystanders.
The turning red car was a signal for the one officer, who will never be identified, to fire a blank in her direction while caught by the camera operator, who immediately panned away from his co-worker who is reporting on the otherwise uneventful scene. The only significant event was the reporter supposedly being shot, and the cameraman immediately pans away from his co-worker to video record the crowd of peaceful protesters and innocent bystanders.

I know the police had issued an order to clear the street just prior to that. Did the news crew clear the street. Nope, they didn't. Most likely it was a stunt, to get people like you worked up.

I've seen drone footage of a bunch of cops on horseback trying to make their horses trample a helpless protester who was lying on the ground. The protester wasn't even in the way or anything, they surrounded that person in one of the streets and tried to make the horses move over them. Thankfully the horses are trained not to do that, so they just jumped over the best they could. That protester could have been killed and they thought they could get away with it, because they didn't see any cameras pointed at them. They forgot drones exist.

Host called this "bizarre" - not it is not bizarre, it is malicious. American police are people with little education, and little training that is mostly directed at how to inflict violence. Their training has little attention to civil rights, the law, or how to de-escalate emotions. And each police officer in the USA has a sense of immunity which further drives reckless and antisocial behavior. Finally, the context of a demonstration or protest gives them a chance to play with their toys and intimidate the only societal control on their malicious acts, the media.

    • @john_hunter_

@MAGIC-Australia that's not lawful. The police can only use reasonable force.
So they can use rubber bullets against an extremely violent crowd but they can't use rubber bullets on anyone that doesn't obey their orders to move.
If there's a non-violent crowd that refuses lawful orders to move, they can't shoot them with rubber bullets. They can only arrest them physically.
There are also exemptions for the press. The press don't have to disperse when the police give those orders.
She could easily win a lawsuit if she decides to go through with it.

Except she did do something wrong, the police chief issued a dispersal order. She didn't do that, she wanted to get a story. And additionally, pretty sure people are not just allowed to stand in the middle of streets. Does that work differently in your city?

    • @clonesweetclone29
      @clonesweetclone29 8 months ago +8

@stitch438 No, standing in the street is not something that is usually met with violent force, especially when the streets have already been blocked off for protest. Also, media is usually afforded a level of protection not just in LA but by international law. I would highly encourage you to look into some of the other instances of police brutality during these particular protests. This instances include, but are not limited to, a lawyer being shot by a rubber bullet from 30 feet away for "distracting" the police officer with questions and the police running over a man with their horses.
I'm from LA and the vast majority of what I've seen are peaceful protestors with a few a-holes. The looters are coming out at night and aren't the same people protesting during the day. Its all pretty standard for LA and considerably less rowdy than other protests I've seen here.
