- Sergio Cruz, 32, was helping build a mixed-use project called North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood at the La Jolla-area campus when a rebar wall frame collapsed onto him and three fellow laborers shortly before 8:30 a.m.
A single father? come on man that’s some sad shit.
Construction workers are putting their life on line but we all take it for granted
Mens lives are nothing
I almost died like 5 times, RIP bro never get comfortable always stay cautious out in the field.
Put braces on don't over stack
Thanks for the tips
You almost died 5 times?
No your clumsy 5 times or your dumb 5 times.
You don't almost die 5 times.
@@SaltyD619er yeah he's a safety hazard

@@atheannacruz6837 good bless you. Stay strong. I do t know you but i send you a big hug.
Waoo very sad lost a good hard working person like that condolences to family for big lost
I see what was unsafe.when setting the rebar with the crane the crane should stay holdind the cage of the rebar till all that rebar is cover of with ply wood forms. And the use of turnbuckels to level the tower .
Nobody does that, just need to have it braced off before you cut loose the crane.
Rest in peace

I am so sorry for you loss
Man this sucks I see these iron workers everyday at work the company I work for uses there forms they make out of iron.
Yes it is.
Condoglianze alla famiglia purtroppo lavorare nei cantieri e' sempre rischioso e bisogna avere 4 occhi. Sergio come tutti rispettava la sicurezza ma alle volte non basta e ci si mette anche la maledetta sfortuna.
I work on a lot of Clark jobs here on the east coast. Now, I know why they are so strict with safety
RIP 🌠
I wonder how long it took them to find the standard issue statement on this fatality in the companies IT system?
RIP brother
That rebar ws dangerous too long and heavy
Engineer caused this
Pobrecito mijito...Lo Siento hermanito. 😢
Accidents happen. Was this preventable?
yea 100% . those cages were not braced properly. or. was struck by something.
Rest in Paradise brother from local 7 Boston 😔
My dad works like him
A single father. Bless his soul. Stay safe out there my fellow tradesman 🫱🏾🫲🏼🪶
RIP brother. Local 86 rodbuster here
they always have this generic "statement". " we sorry we investigating ourself"
Same kind of accident happened to a RPM rodbuster in Washington State in 2008 as he was unhooking the crane for the rebar column they had just set into place.
It also crumpled over just like the column that killed this Union Ironworker.
9 years of Union Ironwork was enough for me. Not only is it dangerous but Nothing is EVER fast enough or GOOD enough.
Journeyman Ironworkers make Apprentice Ironworkers carry more weight than is safe and laugh when the Apprentice falls or gets hurt.
To them its sport.
Wish l had made videos while this stupid shit was going on at The Port of Tacoma with Gerdau.
The Superintendents held meetings after an Ironworker got hurt telling them to slow down, don't carry too much weight!
And the very next day the Rodbusters would be right back at it!
Pushing Apprentices to carry more weight than was safe.."because were Ironworkers! Were the best of all Trades on any jobsite!!!"
Google collapse on Mercer street in Seattle is exactly why l got out of Ironwork..hurry up! time is money! let's not stand around because it's too windy!
let's take out the pins so that we at least are doing Something for the $40+ Fringe a hour they're paying us!!
Now the pins are out and they are committed!
to dismantle the Tower Crane as they can't leave it now that almost all the pins are removed!
And just wanted to keep busy,
Ironworkers and innocent drivers DIED because of Ironworker Mentality.
This will never change sadly!
💪⚒🔩☠💪
I googled it, it's totally tragic, I'm still trying to understand what happened, I hope you found work somewhere else and are happy doing that job sir
thats why the crew has to all be on the same page because they will make their problems yours if you let them. if you step on a job and they say we are a month behind say they should have planned better and dont give it another thought. or shit like this will happen. tower cranes have to come down and go up under a strict set of conditions .wasnt the tower crane rep/expert overseeing the work? step by step? i took one down before and it was fast paced and scary. every body had a set job . the rep from morrow knew his shit well. it took two 12-14 hr days but it went without incident
Union here on mega projects, Rest In Peace brother.
Most dangerous job. Most fatalities each year. Stay safe guys.
over hight rebar
Lives are way too valuable. We need robots to construct buildings really.
i dont think it would be possible to do. there is just to much to know and to many variables only a human can handle and have the wisdom for.
It’s the safety personals job every day to spot nearmisses Before they haven’t that could have been avoidable
You’re not wrong, but every person on the jobsite is “the safety guy”. It’s everyone’s responsibility to spot near misses. As quickly as things change on a site, you could be on a routine safety walk, there be no issues, turn around and suddenly a major red flag is glaring you in the face. Also, there’s no information in this video about what went wrong. However, based on the images it looks like a possible QC problem.

I kniw it's a year ago. But i hope his kids got what they deserve. If it wasn't for us the rich would have no houses. Sad to say it. But it's real
Every construction site must or have take life wven machinery
Y’all need to know without workers like this there won’t be no stadiums or buildings for us to enjoy. This out the phone we should praise, not No mj or Tom Brady or Kim kardianse or j z. This world is so fucked up
I hope some body hear about fire accidents in iraqi hospitals...a few days in Nasriya. .70 people who were suffered of Corona suddenly burned in sandwich panel carvan hospital...their bones and flesh became coal and ash. ..

MAY THE LORD FORGIVE YOU ALL YOUR SINS KOLEGA
Awesome
Hey now he is rip with god
Scab companies that's what you get with non union lame ass contractors. I worked in L. A. And it's totally more dangerous to work down there cuz they cut corners on most processes.
I've seen plenty of unio. Shops cut corners stfu
Also, he was local 229
Hey Sparky are you a punk?
@@marklacombe9833 lol no, you just don't seem to have the attention span to watch the video all the way through. The man killed was a union iron worker
All I was meaning to say is when i worked down there it was primarily non union and there is a difference. I was a piledriver from the bay area and the way we worked up here there was less accident and injury . It's all still up to the individual. I refused to do things a couple of times because I knew it was unsafe . To be honest the line is more blurred now there is not alot of union work in the U.S. anymore but a got an annuity and pension from it so of course I want to still receive my pension checks so I am pro union lol.
I slipped through a wing wall after we finished forming while standing on the rebar thank got I got a fat. Remember boys leg day saves lives
Liars and I'm certain that they were involved in the incident in Louisiana yesterday
How? Construction is dangerous. This stuff happens.
