What I love about this version of A Christmas Carol is that it is a faithful adaptation of Charles Dicken's story that can be watched by young and old alike. Its not been dumbed down for a younger audience, its costumes are so wonderful (Abby Cox did a video of how much she loved the detail put into the costumes) and its a lovely moral story. Its a great movie, its certainly one of my favourite versions.
It’s a must see for me in the Christmas season. I still need my more serious version to deep dive into Marley’s pain, show Ignorance and Want, and make the future look seriously bleak. But like you said, it still hits the key themes strongly, and works as a less scary way to introduce the story to kids. And I have seen that Abby Cox video about the accuracy of Victorian apparel - very good video.
I saw this only once, theatrically. I remember laughing out loud as Piggy's description of Scrooge: "He's mean...and odious...and poorly dressed." I know it's much loved by many viewers and I need to see it again. Have you seen the 1970 musical with Albert Finney? It's my third favorite. I'm not keen on musicals, but it works for me overall.
