Making the High Pressure Air Tank - Improvised Vid

  • WARNING : DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RECREATE ANYTHING YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE IN THIS VIDEO
In this improvised video I will be attempting to make an air Tank rated for 60 bar (870 psi).
I originally attempted using a refregerator compressor. However, although these compressors are able to pump out 60 bar, they will overheat if they run for too long.
I then purchased a cheap PCP air compressor from aliexpress. I have been using it for quite some time and have never had issues with it.

Compressing undried air to 50 bar is going to result in a great deal of water condensing out in the pressure tank. Needs a drain valve at the bottom to let the water out so it doesn't pool rusting out the cylinder.

If this is an easier way to make videos then I say go for it! You do really interesting and creative work, and you’d be surprised how many building RUclipsrs go with an improv style anyway

The fridge compressor isn't self oiling, as it usually has refridgerant running through it. Wet air affects the internals in a very different way.

You can use these fridge compressors as cheap vacuum pump as well, they have a low flow rate but can pull a pretty decent vacuum. However if you run them for longer times, you need to cool the compressor. A simple fan will do, you can run them 12+ hours that way. Also you can put two in series for even higher pressure/vacuum, or in parallel for increased flow rate. They are essentially free if you know where to go (dumpster diving).

The safe option for testing the tank and plumbing is with a hydrostatic test pump, for example Rothenburger RP-50. The energy stored in a tank full of water (no air) at 50bar is vertually zero. A face shield wont help much if a tank of compressed air at 60bar lets go. You have around 117L of air compressed into 2L of space :) If the oil in the fridge compressor exceeds 100 deg C it will turn acidic and attack the copper in the motor windings which are immersed in the oil :)

@@colspyro ahhh, use an incompressible fluid so there's essentially no "spring force" during a decompression event. That makes a lot of sense.

Tank pressure testing is done with the tank submerged in water so changes in tank dimension can be measured. Domestic plumbing installations are typically tested with a hydrostatic test pump and left under pressure for a period of time to ensure its good.

Why don’t you make a diy homemade tank that can withstand a tremendous amount of pressure in the next video 👍

diving people use dessicant to pump dried air into cyllinder as moisture causes rusting of the cyllinder

Oh yes ! Je veux voir la fusée 😁
Pour l'extincteur, sur le miens il est marqué CO2 sous 55BAR.
Mais sur le réservoir il est aussi marqué :
    PS 169BAR (Pression maximale admissible)
    PT 250BAR (Pression d'épreuve)

The Fridge Copressor needs oil, water will condensate wen air gets compresed, and you have a safety release @ the neck of the tank is a burst disk.

Well presented! Can you post a direct link or part number for the compressor you purchased? The compressor I have looked at purchasing did not have the additional 12v input. The 12v input would be a good back up for my intended application. Thanks again.

Yeah you want to bring it up to 80 or 90 bar unattended and if it can do that that its safe to stand infront of it at 60. Also 90 bar hydrostatic test

if you're able to get to a bomb range, I wanna see what'll happen to a standard air tank with all the pressure you can. You might have to fly somewhere to to do that, though...

Never weld a pressure vessel, not even the tank of your 8 bar shop compressor. In the factory pressure vessels are carefully heat treated after welding and manufacturing to ensure that it is able to endure thousands of pressure cycles. Welding will ruin this heat treatment and can cause the pressure vessel to crack and explode.

  • @ifell3
    @ifell3 2 года назад +5

I would be careful of welding the tank as you need certification to weld tanks.

    • @tymoteuszkazubski2755

One needs know-how, certification is for engineering and inspectorates to know that stuff will be done up to specs and regs.
