I just clicked because I needed to something to listen to while doing things. So obviously just spent 10 minutes watching the video and did absolutely nothing of what i had to do. I kinda would have hoped my philosophy were like this at highschool, i would have actualy bothered to listen.

I remember when I was 12-13 and watched Professor Dave’s videos when I wanted to learn something new about biology.
Now I’m graduating with my bachelors and I’m still watching Professor Dave and learning new things about biology.
Thank you for inspiring the new generation through technology

I am from Africa, Libya. Your channel is very great and very useful. I succeeded in medicine because I learned the basics of science from you. Your channel made me think creatively and critically and stimulates thinking.
Your channel is great especially for beginners who want to deepen their understanding of the world.
    God bless you

*QUESTION:* Is it ok to harm babies during war?
*NORMAL PERSON:* Harming children is wrong.
*PHIL BRO:* What is your moral ontology that allows for epistemological abilities to access truth on this question?

    • @momgo6533

a phil bro can say that and still arrive at the same conclusion, you're kinda just saying it's wrong to evaluate why we find bad things bad

@@momgo6533 the issue is the question is assuming a specific conclusion about the nature of morality and its justification. There are a variety of anti-realist and constructivist positions in metaethics which also account for normative ethics, which is why normative statements like "harming children is wrong" are probably not hanging on a nihilistic precipice.

    So here's the simple scoop:
    Perception and Thought:
Some philosophers, like John McDowell, argue that while we passively experience the world, we actively shape it using our cultural background and language. It's like we're born with a natural way of seeing things, but then we paint over it with our learned ideas.
    Belief and Truth:
Others, like Alvin Goldman and Ernest Sosa, are all about how we form true beliefs. They say it’s not enough to have reasons for what we think-we need reliable mental processes or “virtues” that help us catch the truth, much like building a habit of good thinking.
    Moral and Ethical Judgments:
Robert Audi and some feminist philosophers look at how our intuition and culture shape our ideas of right and wrong. Feminist thinkers, like Helen Longino and Miranda Fricker, point out that when only one group (like white, heterosexual men) gets to decide what's true or valuable, we end up with a skewed view of knowledge and fairness.
    Brains, Bodies, and the Mind:
Then there are the Churchlands and Antonio Damasio, who argue that understanding our brain and nervous system might explain everything about our mind. Damasio, though, keeps a bit of mystery alive by suggesting our mind and body are one big team, instead of totally separate.
    Philosophy Meets Science:
Finally, a new wave called experimental philosophy (or X-phi) mixes philosophical questions with real scientific experiments. Researchers here, like Joshua Knobe, Jonathan Haidt, and Joshua Greene, use experiments to see how our emotions, culture, and even the way we phrase questions can change our moral judgments.
I guess what i understood from it

The idea of ethnicity or sexist bias to uncover is pretty noble but it is in the philosophical case more like that the train of most discoveries already left the station. It is like someone complains about that we talk about horseless carriages when it came to first automobiles instead of gazelleless or camelless charriages, because it was europecentric. This does not effect the invention of the automobile itself or that there would be new insights into how to built one.

Diversity is the wrong goal. Equality is the ticket. If we want diversity, we should include flat earthers in academic settings - or would that be too much diversity? ;-)
