Im working on programming a soccer game, i started working on basic ball trajectory physics. Then on programming AI for some NPC (non-player characters). Goal keeper first and looking for some algorithms on positioning the players. Ended up here at "Friends of Tracking". Very useful and interesting. Im only a bit worried that the magic of a game can be replaced with cold mathematics and that the whole game will be controlled by the one with the best scientists and the largest amount of money.

That's the problem with technology. On the one hand it's incredibly exciting with what can be accomplished, but on the other hand what happens when football is 'solved'? When data scientists figure out an optimal strategy for playing football and then all teams end up playing in one way.
Similar thing is happening in basketball - analysts figured out that the deep 2-point show is a losing strategy. Now teams are just taking a lot of 3 point shots and its become quite boring in my opinion.
