I am 15 years old and I have worked for my RC car it took me about a year of work, it is a team associated b44.1 racing truggy and it taught me about working and responsibilities and maintenance and about other people. I'm am currently waiting for my car to be sold so I can buy a x maxx second hand.
If you are going to buy a expensive rc the main rules are
Do not let other people you don't know have a go with your expensive car
If you are by yourself, people might want to steal your rc, I've had this problem but I got away because there was other people to help me.
Do not do any jumps or high speed runs if there is a chance of you hitting someone.
I have never let other people I don't know use my car and have always been safe when using my car. And I'd recommend that you find a bashing club near you.
I really respect the advice you gave. There is nothing like the feeling of setting goals, working hard and achieving success! I really enjoy your videos and energy, but this video was the catalyst that prompted me to subscribe. Keep doing what you do, and I appreciate you.

Yes i agree with Kevin you need to work for it im 46 back in the early 90's i started racing R/C but i had to go out and by my first Gold pan RC10 when you by it your self i means so much more to you and i still race to this day Keep up the great work Kevin you do a hell of a job brother!!!!!!

Well said Kev. I'm 43 years old bought my grasshopper in 3rd grade. Many many rc's later I now have an x-maxx with a 58113 in it and it is something that definitely deserves respect.

The way I got my stuff was usually asking my parents and I’d get it. But after a while, I’ve thought and made myself work for the things or wait for holidays. I sucked it up and worked for a while and look what i have here. A 600$ E-Revo 2.0 all earned myself. Kev, you are most definitely a wise man

You are 100% correct Kevin! I words on a paper route and would do chores around the house for very little money just to buy my first rc and it was the Blackfoot. It took me a long time to put it together. I showed my mom all the pieces that it came in and she was amazed but I showed her and different phases it coming together she was so proud of me! It taught me a lot! From then on I worked hard for the things I wanted. Next thing was my motocross bike but I did it all by myself! My parents were brought of me :-)
I purchased my Xmaxx last year and it took me 8weeks of workin on the farm to pay for it, best decision to get it. Now I work at a Hobby shop and love it. Thanks kev for the epic Xmaxx bash videos they are the best on RUclips!!!! 👊👍

I remember being in middle school and I asked my dad for a cell phone , he told if you want one you have to work for it .

I’m glad you told the kid to get out there and work for it. No kid should think that they deserve such an expensive “toy” for themselves. I’m not saying they’re toys at all, just that they are not toys and especially in the hands of people who can’t afford to buy one for themselves.
Great advice for anyone about anything they want at any age..if you want it bad enough, work your tail off. It will be all that more special, and you will appreciate it and have a great sense of accomplishment.

I'm 100% on board with your opinion kevin about working for what you want. My first R.C. was a Tamiya sand scorcher back in 84. I had a few others afterwards and drifted away from the hobby. Then I got an 8s Xmaxx this year and dammit its fun!!! Love the vids and all the help, keep up the great work. CHEERS!!!

I Iove what you said, It is so true that kids these days think they deserve the world. I am 18 and I work 10 hours a day 6 days a week I bought my truck, my four wheeler, my mini erevo, and my erevo 2.0 my self, because my parents said if I wanted toys and a nice truck I had to buy them myself. I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks now and I’m really considering buying my first RC. After watching your videos I’m thinking that the Xmax is the way to go.
This is why I like watching Kevs videos. This is one of the best videos by far. He sends a great message and does it with style. He is certainly right. Earn it, don't beg for it.
Kevin, a while back you have a problem with your E-Revo losing it's steering when the throttle was applied and couldn't figure out why. In a later video, you said you fixed it with the help of viewers, but you didn't say what the problem was and how it was fixed. I have an E-revo and I really love it. So, how did you fix it? Just would like to know in case it happens to me. Thanks and keep the vids coming.
If you run the stock esc, Traxxas has a patented Training Mod which limits the throttle and reverse power to 50%, and leaves the braking power at 100%. I also had to work for mine, and almost wasn’t able to get it. I eventually got it for my birthday (which I am eternally grateful for) and I have to buy EVERY part that breaks on it with my OWN money. Not saying it’s bad to get gifts, just don’t beg others for them. Set sub goals to help you get to your end goal. If anyone takes anything away from this, and I’ve always been told this, “the best gifts are the ones that are UN-expected.”
Wow Kev you crushed the poor lad. But I agree 100% you have to work for it and you will appreciate it a lot more. And yes it is dangerous I've slammed myself with Mine off a jump it landed and down i went. My hip still hurts sometimes . I worked a month as a student worker to get a slash as a starter and now I have a new job so I should have an xmaxx in a month and a half if I save everything up. I’m only this dedicated because I saw someone walk past me in school with a hobby rc an I thought, “ I want one” and started watching your videos

some advise for the kids mother, I bought my 2 young sons (3y and 6y) an emaxx and a hpi trophy, second hand. They trash those cars almost daily. I make them help me fixing the cars so they learn and try to make them drive slowly. The great thing is to see them outside driving their cars en see how fast they learn to drive those things. My 3y old can do burnouts and backflips 😁
When I was a kid I worked like crazy to get a clodbuster now I have a bunch of them 👍🏻

I have an XMaxx and a Stampede and quite frankly I use both equally. XMaxx is great if you have a really large open area and the Stampede is small and nimble and can take a beating. Both have advantages

Just got my xmaxx last week and already had to send it back due to the ESC went into flames and the motor went out as well. 1 week, no jumping. No bashing. Just up and down the street type of things. 1 week! For 900 bucks Arrma will give you something out the box with good power and little more safety

Since I was 14 I always wanted a high end buggy. Mugen or kyosho was top on my list. You get in your twenties and sometimes you forget about Hobbies because you're working. . No, I'm in my forties. I'm picking Bobby back up. And I finally bought my Kyosho MP9. E In a couple months. I'm going to buy a boat super Baja Rey.
The X-Maxx is definitely an awesome truck, but I have some competitors in mind-namely the Arrma Outcast and Traxxas Rustler 4x4 (VXL, obviously). From what I’ve done to the latter so far, that thing may be the toughest Traxxas 1/10 truck out of the box. Hope you check it out at some point!

Anthony Davis , I have both trucks and do not totaly agree. Have less wear on my X-maxx and maybe more fun😄
I have a DBXL-E, MTXL converted to E, & 5t that I want to convert. The MTXL is worlds over my X-Maxx durability-wise. It has a 12s system in it so power is off the charts too. I can also go all metal everything on it & turn it into an indestructible tank. The same goes the the DB & 5t. All metal parts means there are NO plastic sacrificial parts to break. The suspension will take more abuse but the titanic shocks can easily handle it.
Most metal parts only hurt the X-Maxx. Even the metal stock parts can wreck the diff housings & bulkheads. I had a hard landing with my X-Maxx & the rear arm plate cracked through the lower bulkhead, nearly taking out the diff with it. Speaking of the diffs, I've been through 8 sets of diffs with that truck b4 finding the China spiral-cut gears on eBay. I probably would have sold the truck if it wasn't for those diffs.
The X-Maxx is a bit more fun to drive over the DB & 5t but the buggy & SCT have their niches. I'm more of a MT guy so I can appreciate what ppl see in the X-Maxx. It's a BIG fun truck under $1000. Even with all it's problems, most ppl that have them will bash them according w/o destroying them. However, I can't. I need power. I put a 12s system in a 40lb truck. That truck is the best RC I have but I have $2K in the thing. You can have an X-Maxx, Kraton/Outcast, & any durable non-traxxas 1/10 with batteries for all for that kind of cash. I just like taking the beast out knowing that no matter what I do to the thing, it'll be able to drive back home.

Totally agree with this video, both of my kids saved up their own money for 2 years to get their first rc's my son got a Slash 2wd and my daughter decided to use her money to get her own Rustler (after seeing her brother having all that fun), obviously I helped cover some of the cost, and the maintenance, but they each put up their own money. Later I got the Granite 4x4 for my son for his birthday.
