Love how the Babymetal/Japan segment almost starts at 44:44 because Babymetal as a song about the number 4 and they song: Yon, Yon aka 4,4. It's the 8th song on the first album. 🙂
I'm always so touched when I hear about the Japanese people's efficiency and sense of respect. I know they are not perfect in every respect, but I do believe that we'd be better off if all of us had more of that.
Tank: "What have I done to actually deserve this?" Us: You're simply a good and likeable person. There's nothing "imposter" about that, and you don't need to feel like you should have to earn our respect/admiration. Same with you, Ohrion. You might hook us with your content/editing, but we stay because of YOU. TL;DR: We like y'all because of who you are, not just what you do.
To Tank, the vlogs are amazing. I dislike short content. I love watching longer videos. I use RUclips more now then I use any other streaming service. So I love all the vlogs you make. And I rewatch them plenty of times too. Cause they are so entertaining and informative. 💜
Let's be very clear, short form content on RUclips is a discovery mechanism, to find new channels you might like. It's meant to give you maybe a short funny moment as an introduction to a whole video or channel
@@marita2g yeah, it really is try and compete with the well known short form video platform of course. But RUclips keep telling content creators to do it because it does bring in people for some. You have to get some kind of balance right though. Some channels hardly have any other views/subscribers except for 1 or 2 viral shorts. But for some it really works: the vtuber Filian is a good example for whom it worked. vtubers are strange content anyway, sometimes with a bit of NSFW edge. So be forewarned I guess.
Loved this interview! Tank is so authentic and insightful. Discoereved so many great artists thanks to him, and also learned so much about touring and the music industry.
OMG, when Tank references Johnny and Nate's reaction video of RATATATA i was like the same way. I think there was another reaction where they wondered if EC was the band playing or if it was BM's backing band. I was like "you can't tell me you've watched enough EC videos if you can't recognize the tone of the drums and guitars."
Absolutely loved this interview. Both of you are favorites of mine, so it was good to just watch you guys talking for a couple of hours- no rushing through it- just having a good time. So thank you both for doing this.
Great interview. I was at the Toronto show, It was an awesome show. I love the behind the scenes talk, It really does make me appreciate the shows I see that much more 🤘🤘
Thank you. This was a really great interview. It really seems like (in a positive way) that Tank had been waiting to tell his story and this gave him the opportunity.
I rarely watch such long videos. But I've subscribed to both of you for a long time and I'm also a big EC fan and I have to say, these two hours have gone by so quickly. Great conversation, super interesting content. I've already noticed that there are more and more reactors on You Tube connecting with each other and creating collaborative content and I like that. All the best and greetings across the pond from Germany.
No exaggeration about the EC Tshirts at the festivals. I was at Sonic Temple and their shirt was my #1 merch want. Went to get one on Day 2 and they were either completely sold out or only had like XS (can't remember). I was so heartbroken! Should've gone to the show in MD a few days earlier but couldn't take off work on Monday when we were leaving for ST Wednesday morning. I guess now I have even more reason to see them a 3rd time whenever they're back!! Festivals are great but a full headlining show can't be beat!
shorts are pretty much a seperate thing entirely, sure you can try to make shorts to lure people to your mainchannel, but at the same time there are tons of channels that are doing longform 1hr+ content and that has exploded in popularity kinda simultaneously with tiktok/super shortform content.
I don't think Babymetal's crew got any complain about their visit last December at Madrid. When the guy in charge of sweeping the stage grabbed the broom and got on with it, all the public was cheering him as a matador "OOOOLEEEEE!! OOOOLEEEE!! OOOLEEEEEE!!" 🙂 He was enjoying himself too 😂
I enjoyed y’all’s chat. I can relate to Tank’s lore junkie addiction 😜. My experience with Destiny was “meh”, besides, MMOs aren’t my thing. But man do I enjoy the lore. I really find this whole RUclips “game” fascinating as well as understanding the reality of the business behind music and production. It is my opinion that the current rock and metal scene is stuck in an ideological war between “rockist” who want to preserve a false idea of what metal is and “liberals” who want to liberate artists from industry norms that are holding them back. Most people in the scene I think are in the middle and are in a struggle with their own biases, unconscious or not. As someone who has one foot in the American/Western metal scene and the other in the Babymetal/Japanese/Eastern Asian metal scene, I can tell A LOT of people over here have their heads buried in the sand. I have tried to understand the gatekeeper side but whenever I go out of my way to explore that side of the internet, it just looks like an online cult echo chamber that makes trivial things a bigger deal than they need to be. But these people are so noisy on the internet I feel like it has an adverse effect on online conversations about the direction of the genre. No one likes to deal with bullies, especially ones you can’t retaliate against. Of course we always have typical haters that hate whenever a favourite band of theirs does something new but I would argue that is just a conservative mindset people have that won’t go away. I do encourage y’all to look more into Babymetal and what they are doing. To me it’s only a half surprise that Ratatata blew up like it did because I know Babymetal is FAR from a novelty. Sumetal herself has said they plan on “leading the metal scene”, and their executive producer is an extremely smart metalhead who knows the industry like the back of his hand. He has had ties to Eskimo Callboy since they got started. Hell, the guy probably knows Vessel from Sleep Token personally. Everything talked about in this video; the business of being an artist in this day and age, RUclips content, reactions, etc. Babymetal operate in that sphere like it’s their turf. It would not surprise me if it was calculated and planned for Ratatata to nuke the algorithms; and I feel this is just the beginning. Babymetal hasn’t even dropped their magnum opus yet. Their last two albums are sophomore era stuff. In my opinion anyway.
As the one and only Lemmy said it (best): Another town, another place Another girl, another face Another truck, another race I'm eating junk, feeling bad Another night, I'm going mad My woman's leaving, I feel sad But I just love the life I lead Another beer is what I need Another gig, my ears bleed We are the road crew! Nothing but love for roadies, nothing but love for Tank! (even without the beer...and hopefuly his wife and kid will never leave :-* )
I feel like we had almost like 3 generations of react content. Early like "kids react" were a thing that was ok but then were overused and worn out. Thrn there wes this phase when it was just random dudes reacting (usually overreacting to the point those reactions are fake). Then there was a phase when people with interesting background were basically doing analysis and commentary but still were calling it "reaction". I used to hate react content as it was lasy and fake , but during covid i noticed this professional kind of react like tank did, or some of vocal coaches or filmographers. But eveb this content tends to feel repetitive. There are finite number of guitar manufacturers in the world to be called out and explained) Thats why prefer this new content of touring background stories. This is new, may be one day those stories also would be worn out yet it feels good that Tank managed to adapt and improve as ive seen old reactors struggling to grasp to the last straw of their older content rehashing old ideas over and over again
At one point I was licensed, and it was that band that paid for my training and licenses so they could have someone on the road that could do it. I just never renewed them when I stopped doing pyro.

WOW as an inspiring reactor Tank and Ohrion thank you for inspiring me! Also as a huge fan of EC this interview was AMAZING!

You haven't heard enough BM if you doubt that their backing band could play any of the EC songs in the EC style better than EC themselves.
All equally good musicians in their own way.

Thanks man, great to see you got to talk to him, he's been a great content creator.

glad to hear Tank give a shout-out to Asterism -- criminally under-valued band.
