You did great! I had you at 75. Of course I want to see you do 30 different ones a day.
My regular go-tos are:
Whole grain porridge-oats, barley, rye, sorghum, 5 mixed millets, 4 mixed dal. Sometimes I add wheat berries, farro, other grains. I mix equal amounts of dry and store in 1c jars. One jar + 4c water, IP. Add plant milk, white beans, flax. Sweet=nuts, fruit, Savory=curry, cumin, nigella, pepper. Or steam for less time for a grain bowl.
Multi bean chili with added veg and lentils
Bean soup (often use the commercial dried 'ham' soup mix) add a couple of grains plus extra veg
The Big Salad of course oh, those little mixed cherry tomatoes count separately
Hummus/bean dip w/red, orange, yellow, green pepper, cukes, radish, brocc, caul, celery carrot snow peas (14 right here)
I buy bags of curly kale, collards, mustard greens, add dino kale, mix, steam for 0min in IP w/onion and garlic. freeze in 1c portions (quick cheat)
Of course any stir-fry or curry
Other cheats are premixed whole grain porridge, rainbow carrot mix, spring salad mix, sprout mix, baby potato mix, lots of premixed options. Mix your own dried beans or if you have freezer space, mix one can of every bean you can find, portion and freeze. That's 10 right there.
If you are fortunate enough to live in a multicultural area, frequent the ethnic stores. Between our Indian grocer, Asian market and a couple of Hispanic places there's a wealth of plant foods. The greens/veg section at the (admittedly huge) Asian market has to have >60. Plus the freezer section has even more. The Southeast Asian legume/rice/grain section will make your head spin.
Hope this helps someone.
Thank you for this video, it had to be a ton of work but I bet you've inspired a lot of people.
Thank you for this very detailed response -thanks for adding all of your thoughts and ideas in here!!
Always take credit when you give people hope such as coffee and chocolate
If someone asks you if you're a God.....
My 2 favorite things here are 1) your sense of humor, and 2) how you just throw all your leftovers plus other things together. I love that. 😄👍 I’ve been an ethical vegan and strict WFPB eater for 35 yrs and counting… Love your channel! 💚🌱✌️
Thank you - we try not to waste and food. My lunch today was combining the left overs of two meals into something new. :) It was good! :)
30 plants a day! I went to the market today and shopped colorfully! My husband questioned my sanity in the produce department. ( He questions my sanity regardless.)
Haha - tell your husband that you're doing just fine :)
Tell your husband you made the conscience decision to go crazy in the produce department instead of the pharmacy department.
@jillhollon768 I just retired from 30 years in a pharmacy. Been there, done that and we are still married after all those years!
@@Robins3dogs_andafoster
Oh wow!!! Congratulations on your retirement and on your happy and successful marriage!!! 😀
Hi from Strasbourg, France - but I live in Victoria, BC (traveling right now, and super happy we have a kitchen in this hotel which has definitely increased the amount of plants I've eaten recently).
Awesome video! You did so well having eaten 82 different plants in a week!I’m looking forward to your video on Dr. Will B’s cookbook. I already own it and it’s been excellent for advice on following the low FODMAP diet for my IBS-C. However, I haven’t made any of the recipes yet. I’m currently reading his first book “Fiber Fueled” which has a 28 day meal plan for general gut health and is good for people coming off the standard American diet. Thanks for this video!
On average I tyically eat between 50-65 plants a day across two meals, though I often exceed this. I absolutely love plant foods so to me it's a breeze.
Sounds great. Can you please give us an idea of what you eat to get all those plants in?
@@klkpush Certainly. I just had lunch so can give you a working example. Remember I only eat two meals a day (no snacking) so my meals are larger than average.
Minestrone w/ toast: wholewheat pasta, tinned tomatoes, tomato concentrate, onions, sweet potato, celery, carrot, courgette, green beans, cabbage, cavolo nero, lentils, white beans, kidney beans, parsley, quinoa (black, red and white), rye bread, avocado
Nuts/seeds: Brazil nut, pecan nuts, tiger nuts, sunflower seeds
Berries: blackberries, raspberries, blueberries strawberries, grapes
Spices/supplements: ginger powder, amla, ceylon cinamon, dulse seaweed, nutritional yeast, flax/chia (also had Curcumin, omega 3/6 EPA DHA, vitamin d3 and B12).
Cacao drink: cacao, soy milk, goji berries, medjool date, miso
As you can see, in this single lunch alone I had 40 individual plants. I stock the house with a vast variety of plant foods so I can get different plants across both meals and across all days. Every meal I try to avoid repeats and I avoid repeats across days as well - where I can avoid it. This allows me to maximise plant intake. I probably eat around 170-180 unique plants per week.
Easily done you just need to switch up every ingredient between meals and between days...oh and to love food. I eat a lot of it!
Great job. An easy way to get more veggies into ones meals is to add chopped zucchini into your breakfast. I always add 1/2 cup into my cooked oats or raw overnight oats. It basically has no flavor. I also add mixed berries to both meals.
Great tip! I just added some frozen zucchini to my smoothie :)
I just finished my turmeric latte. Love your recipe for the mixture!
Wonderful! Thanks Mary!
Hi Jeremy.Love love love your channel. I really love the way you and your family are so nice to each other - so loving,so genuine. It's a pleasure to watch. Been catching up on all your past videos and have just joined your community! Keep up the great work. You are making my WFPB cooking better and more delicious every day. Thank you! Anna from London, England.😊
Thanks so much!! We try! Sometimes we lovingly give each other shit :)
82?? Great job Jeremy!!!
:)
You keep teasing us with this cookbook you're writing ☹ When is it coming? I NEED it! 😃Thanks for the video, Jeremy!
Thanks Laura! For the meantime use our website.
The truth is - we're working on it and we want to get it as best we can. We're not setting a release date because we are putting it out on our own so we can control it 100% - which means we get the luxury of taking our time with it - not tooooo much time - but we don't want to rush it. I've got a rough deadline in my head of this fall... but don't hold me to it :)
We're SO very thankful of how many people have been asking for it - which is exactly why we need to do it properly. We don't want to disappoint :) Especially not our first time doing one - and we don't want to slow down our RUclips stuff either. So hope that's okay :)
Would love to hear about your morning detox drink! Sounds healthy
Whoop, just found your recipe for it online
My plant guess was 75. Your 82 is excellent! I eat about 25 different plants a day,.. I can usually ramp that up further with the amount of herbs and spices I use though. Especially in soup.
Great job!
Absolutely wonderful to see the variety of plants you ate, in one week! Now, I’m curious about myself. Thanks for sharing your experience and I applaud your dedication.
So nice of you - thank you Tanya!
Great video!!! It will help me to focus on getting a variety of veggies, plants, fruits, etc. in my meals. The Alfredo sauce looks amazing! I will patiently wait for your cookbook.
Pro challenge: If possible, head to an ethnic grocery store, especially a pan-Asian one. The produce selection even in the tiny one near my house is awesome, and when we feel like travelling, heading about 30 minutes north is one of the largest Asian grocery stores in the Midwest, something north of 30,000 sq. feet. The array of greens alone is astounding, but when you factor in fruits, peppers, etc ... and then also the array of whole grains? It has always been my favorite place to shop. Also, I live in a largely Middle Eastern neighborhood, and there are probably 50 small and medium grocery stores within a 5-mile radius (not even hyperbole!) and again, even the tiny stores value good and diverse produce and varieties of things like eggplants and beans you won't find elsewhere. I really love where I live.
Sounds amazing - and agreed about ethnic grocery store adventure!!! Where do you live?

Click and grow is awesome!!! I have had mine for 3 years and love it. Please can you make a review video on the How Not to Age? Thank you for all of your videos! So very helpful and educational too. 😊😊😊
There's no recipes in it (that's I've gotten to yet) but I'm in the middle of reading it and planned on doing something with it - any suggestions?
This is really cool video. I never thought of using veggies like fennel in salad. I would love to see a video of 30 different plants per day, even if it was just for 3 or 5 days and not quite a week.
Great video! The soup and salads look so good. Can’t wait for your review of Dr Will’s Fiber Fuelled book. I tried making his plant broths and have to say they were not that flavorful (considering all of the ingredients/ work). I think they need to simmer a LOT longer than he suggests. Please tell us more about How not to Age, too. I love Dr Greger.
I wish we had flash foods here in KC. It’s not available here as everything gets donated to homeless shelters and soup kitchens. I get it, but I miss getting the discounts myself.
My MIL (rest in peace, sweet lady) used to make a minestrone soup that easily had 20 different plants in it, and if you subbed out the kidney beans for one of those 16 bean soup bags from Target you could hit 30 in one bowl 😄
Boom!
We did the same challenge a few years ago in one weight loss group. I don't remember what my highest daily total was, but during the week I mostly ate 160 different plants. At that time I was whole food, but with a little tuna, pecorino and feta cheese and sometimes chicken.
Now I'm WFPB SOS free but my variety of plants per week have decreased a little bit. I eat mostly every day the same.
Wow - that's a LOT - you can bring them back up!
Wow!!! 82!!?? Not bad. That's awesome!! ❤
Hello from Salt Spring Island where the fresh markets on the West Coast have started already…here is to fresh eating.
You Should make a gut bug band shirt. Feeding my gut bugs makes me happy. I might try to count starting tomorrow but I'd bet I get 30, if not every day then every 2.
How Not to Age-please review! I’m listening to the audiobook and am interested for sure!!
This was such a fun great video Jeremy. Loved it. Yes do it 30 different everyday for a week. Thanks for such great entertaining content as always.
My pleasure!
Not counting snacks (I don’t plan snacks in my weekly meal plan, just make sure I have different options that I can grab) I’m around 20 plants a day.
This was epic! Good job Jeremy. I think your review of Fiber fueled cookbook will be awesome 🙂
Really great video. Inspirational because i realized how many plants i actually already eat per day. Informational because of the different ways to incorporate plants easily into the routine…well done 🎉🎉🎉
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Moira from Scotland uk.
Thanks Moira!
I'm not sure how many plants I eat daily Jeremy because I haven't really kept record of it. Another amazing video Jeremy and love 🥰it. Love ❤ Jeremy & family.
Awesome! Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos! Hi from Florida/Nova Scotia! You were VERY close with Antigonish!
Hihi - thanks!!! Where are you now?
@@pbwithjeremy In Florida until late June. Then it's back to the Cove! Can't wait.
Say hi to Peggy - it's been awhile :)
Hi Jeremy Joyce from Burpengary qld Australia here love your recipes 😊
Hi Joyce!
Let's see....this where being weird with my cooking helps. My breakfast is mostly the same every day: Oats, tofu, cranberries, strawberries, cauliflower, carob, cocoa, cold coffee, wheat germ, and flax seed. That's ten so far. I usually add about six or seven herbs/spices which brings that up to about 16/17. My lunch and supper will be just as diverse, so I should easily get at least 30/day.
Yes, I do a variety of grains: oats, wheat, buckwheat, barley, rye, corn, and quinoa for the most part. And here is legumes: black beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, pinto beans, red/green/brown lentils, peas, split peas, and different types of tofu. Vegetables, well, all the usual suspects everyone uses: cruciferous, leafy green, mushrooms, and starchy. Nuts/seeds: flax, walnuts, pepitas, peanuts, almonds, and cashews (mostly for mayo and to replace cream). An ounce of nuts/day doesn't get you far. Fruit is my second least diverse: aside from the three above, grapes, cherries, occasionally mango or pineapple, dried fruits for baking, and goji berries. No bananas, though. It's hard to push back my earlier diabetes training, but I am making an effort to get in four diabetic exchanges of fruit a day. Like with my breakfast, I have a heavy hand when it comes to herbs and spices. I love playing with ethnic assortments.
I follow Dr Greger's Daily Dozen. And yes, I eat SOS free.
Greetings from Connecticut, Jeremy! I got so excited when I heard you shout-out Tanya.. except it was a Tanya in Canada. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You should have one coming in the near future!!!
I watched this video yesterday and got intrigued. So I started listing my different plants per meal today and got to 27 which isn’t bad for one day. May not be a typical day as this is grocery day so dinner is always an eat up the leftovers from the week meal. Nevertheless, I think we’re getting 30 different plants in a week easily. I wondered if I could count ice tea, if yes then I have 28 for today. I was pleasantly surprised that my typical breakfast came out to 10, (coffee, and oatmeal with chia, flax, strawberries, blueberries, cinnamon, ginger, walnuts, and almond milk)
Eating WFPB is hard NOT to get 30 a week :)
What’s that cool apple tool you use? Where can I get one? Please and thank you, love your content.
It's my favorite thing - you can get them here: carthopper.com/pbwithj/kitchen-essentials-7764/B0B5W4JQLX?variantId=B0B5W4JQLX
I had 17 different plants today, without trying and before watching this video. A few more if the onion powder and soy oil count in my bought salad dressing...Of course I need to know how not to age!!! I made it to 60 so far, but hoping to make it to 100, while also becoming healthier than I am now. Congrats on doing 82 plants
You can do it!
Great job! Keep in mind that according to Dr. B, only fresh herbs count toward the 30.
Yes! Thank you!
Jeremy! You did outstanding!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I was guessing 75 for the week.. yes! Would love to see you work towards 30 different ones each day.🤗
I love how you use your leftovers, I do the same and we make dinner with a couple of leftovers sometimes too 😅
Ever since I watched Dr B’s interview, I’ve been working towards this diversified eating 😋😋 I make amazing salads and have counted 14-16 ingredients in one dish 😆 and I have also reached 30 in one day. I eat a lot like you showed your meals in this video.
Love your content !! 🌱💚
Thank you Marly! Congrats on you getting 30 too!
Just had a lunch where I mixed three different left overs together. Delicious :)
@@pbwithjeremy lol love it!!! I’ll have to see if you have the cookbook yet, I know I will love it.. I cook and eat very similar to your video content 🤩🤗
Shout out... From Honolulu, Hawaii!!!
Hi!!!
I prefer to eat simple meals with no more that 5 ingredients at the time. My favorit are mono meals, they are also easiest for complete digestion. So eating 21 meals a week gives me more than plenty of variety!
I really like your channel. This video was particularly helpful in that I can share with non plant people to encourage their getting more plants into their diet! I cannot afford to be a patreon subscriber, but I try to let the ads/commercials play out or for most of their time- I heard that you get money from the longer an ad plays - do you know if that is true?
It certainly does help - thank you! Glad to have you here in any way! And glad this is helpful for sharing with others :)
@@pbwithjeremy❤
We eat at least 30 plant foods (which includes herbs/spices) in a day easily.
Woot woot!
Obviously I haven’t watched it yet but am commenting anyway. Does dehydrated count? I would think a soup with fresh and dehydrated would work easily. And that’s just vegetables.
If dried herbs count I don't see why not!
This was a really helpful video because it made me realize every time I’ve heard the “30 plants per week” I’m automatically thinking only raw produce. Duh! I feel much better about my number now. 😅
Glad it was helpful! I think you're likely not alone in this!
I'd l9ve to see you eat 30 different plants a day for a total of 210. I would love a list after. I have trouble getting variety.
Hope this video helped!
Do herbs and spices count?😊
Wow. That’s awesome. I tend to buy what’s on sale so I don’t have as much variety as I’d like .. and I’m the only one eating all the veg and fruit at home. 😂
I'm sure you're doing great!
How much do you have to eat of each plant for it to count as a point
Any amount counts really as you’re still getting something of that food.
Hello from Normal, ILLINOIS, ❤
Hi Diana
OMG! I am so impressed! I think it is hard to get 30 different plants a day- but that's because I have my favorite foods on repeat a lot. I don't think you can eat 210 different plants a week! (consider the gauntlet thrown down:) Maybe you should get your microbiome studied before and after such an attempt to see if there are any changes.
Oh - fun idea!
Hey Jeremy, did you count all the spices in your meals as well? Not sure if you counted those.
We did!
36 today!! (Fruit/nuts 4, banana/coffee 2, loaded oats & berries 9, BIG salad was 17 just that, & sweet potato with cauliflower & tempeh/mushroom mix was 6)
Nice!!!
I guess 45 unique in the week. I couldn't do that many though.
Sure you could!
I’m risking this comment halfway through - you may talk about this later in the video. I eat spring mix. It has 16-20 different greens (20 if butter, red and green lettuce/ red and green oak/red and green chard count as different plants.)Feels like that may be cheating, but I count them toward my weekly count.
I don't think it's cheating!
I knew I wrote too soon! You later said different types of the same veggie count individually, which makes sense because different colors=different photochemicals. I love the 30-a-day goal. The spring mix isn’t “cheating” in terms of meeting the nutritional goals, but when you knock off 20 veggies in one bowl, it isn’t motivating to broaden your palette. That’s what 30 per day can do!
true that!
At 3 minutes I am guessing average 27 because it seems like a challenge that you need to really be aware of and I don't think I would be able to do it, I hope you prove me wrong
I’m going to try this! I think I can do it 😊
You can do it!
82 is great! More power to you if you could do 210. I think you’d really have to be strategic about it.
Yeah - it would be hard...
I LOVE Lucy!!! Awwww !!! 🐾💕🐾💕
She'll make a small return in an upcoming video :)
I'm addicted to your videos
It's a healthy addiction! :)
I'll count mine for today.
Breakfast: oats, flax, cinnamon, banana, blueberries, dates.
Lunch: spinach, red leaf lettuce, tempeh (soy), onion, cucumber, blackberries, plum
Dinner: black beans, peppers, corn, garlic, cumin, turmeric, avocado, tomato, cilantro, lime.
23! Not bad 😅 I may have more or less on some days, but this is better than I expected lol
Okay, so watching the rest of the video I learned coffee and tea are also a plant so that will be 25 😂
Great!
I’ve been awake for 6 hours and have already eaten 21 😊
Legend!
Yes consider it! 30 different plants everyday!!!!!!
30 servings is not reall possible. i do 10 nsometimes by lunch.. in green smoothie and bits of fruit and salad.
When I was doing Zoe and was recording my foods I generally found I managed 52 per week.
Chocolate is a plant, right?
Technically?? 😂😂😂 LOL
I predict you ate 200 different plants in that one week.
Let's see how wrong I was 😂😂😂
Yes, please make videos from 'How Not To Age' 😁👍
Yes, I want to revise my guess from 200 to 250. You ate a lot of different things. I'm very inspired by this video!!! Thank you so much!!!
Chocolate is 100% a plant. Not even technially! :)
@@pbwithjeremy
Thank you 💚💚💚 Fantastic!!
I changed my guess at the end from 200 to 250!! 😂😂😂
Plus, I added more to my comment!!
This was a super fun video!!
Thank you so much for making it!! 😁
My pleasure and congrats!!!
I'm guessing you get to 85 plants for the week!
No way could I cope with that many plants. I would never leave the bathroom! From an ancestral perspective, I'm not sure eating so many plants is necessary.😮
According to the research - it is. And your body will get used to it - and thrive because of it!
@pbwithjeremy Some people may get used to it. I would have a huge problem. I'd have to respectfully disagree that this way of eating is sound from an ancestral point of view. It would depend very much on where you are from. Most of those fruits and vegetables are only recently available and are not seasonal. Regardless, it's not my choice, but others are free to eat this way. It is very expensive, and not everyone has access to all that produce. The price of food is horrendous!
The price of food is high no matter how you eat. Eating real food has a cost, obviously, but eating cheap and processed food has a cost as well - your health - which then has a literal cost with medications you shouldn't need. I'd rather spend the money on good food first and avoid needing to spend it on medicine later.
I agree about eating real food. I grow food on an allotment and eat food local too me. I have an autoimmune condition and cannot eat beans, pulses, wheat or sugar. Plant based is not necessarily healthy or sound. Some people may be fine others will not. Most of the food from supermarkets is flown miles, and sprayed with toxins. Real food is a good idea. So is seasonal and locally grown food. I agree, I just don't agree about the types of food. 😊
I should also add that although I'm not a fan of vegan diets (tried it 6 months) I have recommended you to a couple of vegan friends in the past. Both of whom had the worst diet I'd ever seen. All highly processed cack. Mostly living on the vegan processed alternatives. It is without doubt, better to eat real food. Honestly, I think the food industry needs a good kick in the pants!
Jeremy, first time I have seen Lucy. She’s a cutie!
She's just on loan :)
My guess is 25 plants.
24!
omg! really??
Do you feel better eating your daily 30
Honestly - we always eat a wide variety so this wasn't that much different from a typical week for us - I've just never actively counted.
Sorry shoulda watched first
No worries :)
90 in a Week
Is that you?
@@pbwithjeremy no,that was my guess for how many different plants you eat in a Week. I am going to count next Week. My biggest problem is where to store all the veggies. I only shop once a week.
That's why we have a full fridge and just keep a bigger freezer in the basement. ore room for produce!!!
Lol asexual atheist. ❤
haha! Now I know for next time :)
all the various berries count as ONE!
Nope. They all have different benefits (they do share some). Same as you don't count different peppers as one:
Blueberries: Rich in antioxidants like anthocyanins, which give them their blue color, blueberries are known for their brain-boosting properties. They may improve cognitive function, protect against oxidative stress, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Blueberries are also high in vitamin C, vitamin K, and fiber, supporting overall health and digestion.
Raspberries: Raspberries are packed with fiber, vitamins C and K, manganese, and antioxidants like ellagic acid and quercetin. Their high fiber content promotes digestive health, while antioxidants help fight inflammation and oxidative stress. Raspberries may also support heart health and blood sugar control, making them a valuable addition to a balanced diet.
Blackberries: Blackberries are similarly rich in fiber, vitamins C and K, and antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins. Like blueberries and raspberries, they offer anti-inflammatory and heart-protective benefits. Blackberries may also aid in improving brain health and skin health due to their antioxidant content.
