On Malvern Hill was originally composed to be sung by a choir, here setting lines from the 14th century poem Piers Plowman describing the Malvern Hills. The lyrical gradually melody rises, like a gentle path leading up to the steeper ascent, building to a vigorous and energetic chorus that takes us to the very top of the hills.

Thank you both so much for this wonderful house concert! Absolutely fascinating interpretation and composition and fine recording! Many years ago, I was in the Malvern Hills myself and composed a few bars for solo cello afterwards. But this composition is far more beautiful. Great! I'll show it to my wife too 😉
