I think my brother got this album on cassette. Ghar ma regular bajtheo. Ajai pani weekend ma regular nai bajcha and hits different when you are little drunk😁 Never knew the hard work behind the success of such a legendary compilation. Take a bow Rajiv da and the team for this beautiful gift and Love to all the musicians who contributed their music to this album.
Feeling truly blessed to be from the golden era-where I got my hands on the Gorkha Rock cassette and played those band songs on repeat. Now, 22 years later, watching the making of Gorkha Rock Volume 1 brings back so many memories. Seeing the struggles, the compromises with sound, and learning about the mastermind behind it all-hats off to those incredible bands and especially to Rajiv da for his initiative in bringing the Gorkha Rock project to life. Respect and gratitude always. 🎸✨
I watched the entire interview. I too felt nostalgic coz I also started playing rock in guitar during school days after hearing these legendary songs of GR Vol 1 in cassette 😊. When i pick my guitar, these riffs and solos comes like reflexes. Really these guys have setup history and have established an indelible impression in the hearts of all Gorkhas from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, Siliguri, Sikkim, Nepal and established worldwide. Re-initiate the trend again where tech too is advanced. Jai Gorkha Jai Hind !!
Surprised and glad to know the compilation cassette cover featured Dave Mustaine, big fan of him, but again half way to this brings back memories alive❤❤❤. Thank you to all the bands and the producer himself!!
Gorkha Rocks was such a legendary album and paved the way for the success of lots of bands..I still remember all the song in it and I was in my school days and I still have memories of buying a copy of that album it was holy grail of Nepali rock..Songs from Mantra band,Reincarnation,Divine Wreck,Chakra and other bands was such a treat for Nepali rock lovers back then..Thanks to Rajiv Da,Jiwan Sir,to the all the bands and everyone involved someway or other in making of the iconic album..Would love to hear and listen to yet another volume of Gorkha Rocks..🫡🤘
Great. Brought back so many Fond Memories. We were all deeply influenced by Gorkha Rocks. Undoubtedly Gorkha Rocks Started a New Era in the Musical History of Our Hills and showcased immense talent and musical skills of our Brothers in the New Genre. Also got to know a lot that went Behind the Scenes. Respect to Rajeev Da and all the Great Bands that featured in the Epic Gorkha Rocks Album. I also second to the wonderful idea of Brother Pragya to have the songs re recorded by the Same Bands. Would be a fitting Tribute to Memories of the Lost Souls as well. Prayers. Hail Gorkha Rocks.
I was in college and I remember getting this album free with a mantra show ticket in kalimpong. This is nostalgic and it has taken me back to those college days.. thank you for putting this in RUclips
One of the most significant milestones for music in the Darjeeling hills was the emergence of Gorkha Rocks. This platform provided an unparalleled opportunity for local bands to showcase their talent and gain wider recognition. It became a pivotal venue for the vibrant music scene in Darjeeling, offering a crucial stage for bands from the region to shine. GorkhaRocks.. Still rocks for us.. 🤘
I witnessed it Coz I was studying in St. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE during that time....I had purchased a cd....and Devine wreck was the most hyped band during that time...and we had no idea mantra would make it big from there onwards....
Kudos to Yugal and Smriti for taking the time, the effort and the passion to tell the story of one of the defining moments of rock music in the hills of Darjeeling. It was heartwarming to hear the stories and the struggles all the musicians and all involved, who followed their passion when they didn't have much resources to go by. But they still persevered and gave us an album that not only rekindled rock music in the hills but also open the doors to great compositions in the local language. All these stories needed to be heard and will hopefully serve as inspirations to the new crop of young, greatly talented musicians who are appearing in the hills. Best wishes to all the future endeavours.

Dammi dammi initiative. Yes the much need of the hour since I feel again Darjeeling music scene is kinda happening but it’s all happening within themselves and not like how it use to be after Gorkha Rocks. We will need more like Rajiv da again. Gorkha Rocks🤘
Wave by Divine Wreck ... It was way ahead of its time. Aju samma ... I go back and listen to Wave by Divine Wreck when I need inspiration and technicality while writing music.
Darjeeling Hills (Kalimpong,Kurseong and Mirik) were blessed with great talents in the past, present and will bring in the near future. Our talents were the Eye- openers to the rest of the world from the 60's till date today.Obsticles were many, Parents approval, lack of instruments, lack of Platform and ofcourse finacial sponcers.
