- The non-profit ocean exploration company OceanX, run by billionaire Ray Dalio had Damen Ship Repair in Rotterdam refit and upgrade the 85.3 meter "Volstad Surveyor", an advanced ROV survey vessel built in 2010 at C.N.P Freire S.A., in Vigo, Spain. Gresham Yacht Design is responsible for the design of the upgrades and the new interior.
The explorer features a forward helicopter landing deck with adjacent hangar, a submersibles garage, an ROV deployment bay and a transom 40-ton A-frame launch and side boarding systems for ROV's and divers.
A 40-ton crane can assist with submersibles launch, towed sonar arrays and other heavy equipment.
The vessel's equipment complement includes piloted and autonomous underwater drones and two custom Triton submersibles capable of diving to depths exceeding 1,000-metres.
The vessel carries a media production studio developed with director James Cameron, plus state-of-the-art wet and dry marine research labs for analyzing scientific discoveries.

Great info, as always
Glad you enjoyed it
Saw it in the Lake Worth inlet channel near West Palm Beach Florida today. Awesome.
Спасибо Пол!
Порадовал моё сердце профессионализмом и грамотным подходом к делу!
Добра и процветания!!
Great video. Thank you. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We have one of these Nordic bad bois in our Navy (New Zealand) HMNZS Manawanui, such a great vessel.
I could easily spend my life on that ship and be happy....
Love these rugged ships! As a Yacht. 🙂👍🏽
MASHAALLAH khub valo video.....
Awesome
Wow!
Awesome to see some of that Hedge fund money going somewhere actually productive for humanity, love it.
Much better than the average gin palace.
My father (a sailor) referred to all power boats as 'stink pots', but also would grace the larger ones with the moniker 'gin palace'. Such terms may be making a comeback...
And yes, OceanXplorer is a beauty! Tremendous capabilities.
Hey, cool video. Liked and subscribed!
Thanks!
She is serious ship in rather tight package, for what she can do, fairly new too.
wow
If I had the money, I'd turn one of these rugged ships into my super yacht. Imagine showing up in Monaco and all the snooty yacht owners looking at your unrefined workhorse. "Yeah, let me park my boat on yours.. I win."
wouldn't need many changes for me.... On deck Hot tub would be nice however
kinda what i'm thinking. i was on research vessels in 91-93 as a dumb drunk kid. knowing now - where we had actually been, I'd like to experience it with wiser eyes.
My idea of a proper "Explorer" yacht.
additional length addition of bulbous bow?
Or bow modded slightly at deck level for helipad
If James Cameron is involved it must be used for filming the follow on films to Avatar.
REV Ocean will be over 700' due to a hull modification they were forced to do most likely due to center of gravity issues.
Wait fr, do you have a link where I can read about this?
Was kostet solch ein Schiff inkl. Umbau?
Das 14 Jahre alte Schiff lag wahrscheinlich im Bereich von 7 bis 9 Mio. €?? Ich schätze, er hat 15 bis 20 Millionen Euro für den Umbau ausgegeben. Ein tolles Schiff.
How much is it?
I don't know what they paid for conversion in a Dutch yacht yard - probably a lot. The commercial ship could have been bought anywhere from €5 to 10m in the depressed market at that time. But those prices are up dramatically this year.
Would love to know how much that boat costs
Hard to say. The commercial ship was probably $10-15 mil. The conversion could be another $15-20m. Just guessing.
@@IncredibleShips Thank you 👍🏼
Nice treasure hunter yacht for my retirement life...🤔🤣
I neither have any interest in underwater exploration nor would ever be able to afford this. I'll the buy older Alucia (the conversion of the 1974 Auroux vessel) for $17 million.
I wonder if this trend is gaining popularity with the super rich because they are being made aware that the earth is indeed a level stationary plane with Antarctica being the circular shoreline around the worlds oceans. Many stories from the past of fishermen finding passages through to other lands at the north and South Pole. I bet that is what they are looking for
