What if you’re fighting a guy you don’t know, or don’t know their gameplan? Hang back, collect data and do some ”speed-meditation” between rounds? Is this what Mayfield, Alvarez and the like do? What if you still get caught by the jab, do you just go back to the mantra of not getting hit?
Really enjoying your content, Tony. Only started boxing 11 weeks ago and I find your stuff really useful. About to sign up for my first charity fight in September.
Charity fights work as a 8 weeks training program prior to your fight, and usually you are matched with someone else within the program, by ability, weight, etc. You will also most likely train with your opponent. You will most likey be wearing headguard with 16oz gloves. This is based on experience and from the UK, though it could differ else where.
@@glenmackenzie4437 Yh I’m from England, but I actually wanna fight like competitively do you have to have sponsors and raise money and all that ??? I would wrong if I’m in there to hurt someone and there in there for fun and to raise money if u get me
@@nah7612 You dont nessary have to have a sponsor, if you work which i sure you do, your work can donete £50 to you charity, and have the company logo printed on your vest top, other requirements are to buy and sell 10 tickets or a VIP table, as for hurting your opponents, it can happen, but its a great experience regardless the outcome, just have a pint or two right after 😉
I found out this works very early. When I started training mma I was one of the smallest guys weight wise in the gym and I was getting smashed while grappling. I did basically what you described in the video and getting out of submissions suddenly didn't seem as much of an issue as before. Thanks for the advice!
Yes, good insights TJ, as always. For me, the first moments in the ring with someone is about figuring out what they are dangerous with, usually, it's the cross or the left hook and then adapting your strategy to minimise the risk of getting hit by that.
I love how you give so many examples about using visualization, as a means to prepare for Boxing challenges. Including Thoughts and feelings directly relating to Boxing/self-defence and self improvement. Keep it up mate SW England 🥊
I think it’s very similar to other types of visualization. You concentrate on it so a mix of subconscious/conscientious programming makes you deal with it, “it” being something that’s an important factor. All about intention!
I like to think about this on the bag and shadow boxing. I think "Jab, slip, counter" or "Hook, roll, 2-3-2". I don't know if it helps, but it makes training more fun.
What I find is leaning on the back foot And moving the back foot first is defensive Leaning on the front foot and moving front foot first is more offensive. Depending on what type of puncher they are you can get on the inside in different ways either offensively or defensively I’m trying to learn the philly shell Ambidextrously now but don’t have a coach for that form
This is great. You also have to think that most of the times the opponent is doing same punch many times just to trick your mind to prepare for that specific punch so that they can throw an unexpected punch that can probably KO you. So just want to add this, be careful 🥰 anyways thank you so much coach, this is very helpful to us
Great content! I am an amauter from Brazil (trying to schedule my second amauteur fight) and watching your videos has helped me many times! I specially like your strategy ones, like "how to deal with a pressure fighter", I suggest you do more! I also think you could comment on some famous boxers, show clips and what we can learn from them.
I have a question. Do boxers train how to stand up correct after a knock down? What I mean is use the hole 10 seconds, don´t rush it. Talk to the reef and complain about something to get time...how to stand up proper. Any movement with the head ... neurological stuff (just a guess) to get balance. Do boxer train, how to fight when they are hurt? Like holding or moving - so that they can recall it - automatism.
Thank for you for all that you do! Tyson Fury was hasty to retire this year just as I was getting into these videos. Coincidence? Well, yeah, of course.
Hey Tony, Im A Fan and I am 13, So I have a boxing fight the day after tommorow, can i get some tips because the other boxer starts right away the fight starts and is really aggresive and i get hit in 10 seconds after the fight starts,What Should I Do?
Is it normal for a boxing gym to do the same thing everyday? My gym does 20 mins skipping 20 mins heavy bag 20 mins circuit everyday the same day. They don’t do pads or sparring etc
I think that is call phyllo she’ll defense that The black mamba Roger Mayweather had but it was figured out by Julio Cesar Chávez because he KO twice this type of defense

That will be difficult mate, that will be the time you could use your good reactions Have you checked my reaction drills? ruclips.net/user/shortssr3vBKWasG0 its less than 60 seconds
Try it some time ... it's one of the best ways to learn, to improve and get prepared for life. It makes you hard, and confident to get clobbered, or at least hit pretty good , and learn to come back from it and win, or at least to keep on fighting through the discomfort or pain, in my experience. More importantly, the pain teaches you to focus better on not getting hit full force in the first place by not being in the "sweet spot zone" in front of your opponent's line of maximum force when shedding punches, even when they connect.
