He's point blank average and peopel thinking that he's one of the best things around still is extremely damaging to the hip-hop culture and community because it's dismissing a hundred amazing lyricists that have been prolific and way better than what current Em is doing (which is not hard to do). That might be arrogant of me but i'm sure i could put up a list of insane lyricists you have never heard about, 99% Em fans I encountered always think he's the best thing around because they don't know how bad he is compared to the amazing artists we have in todays world, and that's just pure ignorance which is hurtful and limiting for such a creative genre, hip-hop can do much better than Eminem in 2021.
I wouldn't put Em close to a top 40 rappers of the past decade and that's not off hating on him, he has declined while a lot of lyricists have been doing incredible, boundary pushing stuff, Em is stuck making dick jokes and still considered a lyricist because he makes rhyme schemes about dick jokes somehow.

It's because it's based on view count on youtube, not on how good the song is. It's the top 100 most viewed rap songs.

For a non rap fan it literally felt like half of these songs were the same thing. Especially the newer stuff that's literally unrecognizable, while the old stuff is often iconic and you can't mistake these old beats for anything else. I'm probably gonna get lynched for that opinion, but that's just how I feel, no disrespect to people who love these songs.
Using exactly what works makes the most money. Lot of people mask lack of originality with “You just don’t understand rap!”
@@phunkyphresh3799 Yeah. I do not want to write off the genre as a whole because there really are some amazing rap artists out there, but all the mainstream stuff is dull. But that's how it works when you want to reach the widest audience unfortunately. If your music is uniqe and quirky, there's gonna be a large amount of people who won't like it. If it's inoffensive (in the sense that it doesn't try anything unique) and uses all the tricks that were proven to work - there's less reasons for people to dislike it.
It's up to the artist if they want to make money or make art. Unfortunately, in the rap scene the former is often more important for the creators.
