  • The monumental Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., is one of the most elegant testaments to knowledge in the world. Charles Osgood was given a tour of the building as it underwent a massive, multi-million-dollar restoration, in a report that originally aired May 4, 1997.

In previous post I needed to explain my problem. Bible is registered with the Library of Congress. How can I find help in researching this amazing work.

$90 Million?! WOW!! Who cares about the historical significance and beauty of a building or materialism? Ok, well, maybe somewhat? But, why not just digitalize everything for viewing/reading online, and sell all of those other expensive items on-hand to the highest bidder, and then use all of those funds to help our homeless and those struggling and suffering the most?!

$90 million is nothing. The Iraq war costs about $2 trillion dollars. So instead of complaining about a library which actually benefits a lot of people, complain about a war which was based on a lie and lined the pockets of Cheney and Halliburton.

That $90M provided jobs to craftsmen/women. It provided jobs to the people who made the materials they used.

It's the biggest library in the world. It rivals the internet in information. Netflix has like, what, 5000 titles? Netflix gets $25 Billion from it's customers. The library of congress only gets $700 Million from the taxpayer and it has ~200 million items. A whopping 40,000 times more, off of 3% the budget of Netflix. Which is more valuable: the preservation of the historical artifacts of the most valuable library on earth, or tens of millions of simple-minded primates being able to watch "The Gentlemen" simultaneously?
