Let's comment which characters you want them to play in HDR what they still haven't played. I'll start. I want Poppt to play Link. I think there should be some new infinites and possibilities with Z-drop.

Poppt NEEDS to try them all A lot of characters also have new tech which they need to check on the HDR doc for changes, like Luigi can store misfire, DK can throw barrels with shield + b. I freaking love this mod I’m actually a bit sad they skipped the Ken Vs Sonic, they’re absolute blasts in this game
Toon Link is nutty, he has an extra jump and his up b moves on stage. Also cause of glide tossing, throwing an item during a roll or air dodge cancels it out.
Yes more HDR! This is definitely something that everyone should try at least once. Playing this at my local one time was hella fun and it would be neat for tournaments to have this as a side bracket if it were possible. While it's very well made and super fun i would rather just play Melee if i wanted a game with Melee mechanic, well that and PM.
Still don’t understand why people look at lack of balloon knockback as an objective improvement. It’s fine in Melee, but on higher-fidelity models, it looks like a tractor beam is taking them across the stage. More hitstun on its own would solve Melee fans’ wanting more elaborate combos, and it’s actually something I wanted out of Ultimate, too, but the knockback didn’t really need to be changed for that.
I would love it if you guys played Project M/ Project Plus for the original 'mod that makes a game like Melee.' Idk how that would be with Nintendo's history with PM, but it would be awesome to watch. There's even options to add buffer and disable L-Cancelling if u want.
I actually watched the previous video he did on this mod earlier today and was thinking "man, he should really do more videos of this, it's cool." and now, here we are. I would honestly love to see this played all throughout the different channels of the Underdogs, both on the actual Underdogs channel, and the individual ones, it's just so cool to see. Speaking of, I'm surprised there hasn't been any (as far as I recall) modded smash episodes on the main Underdogs channel, which is really surprising to me.
I love seeing the reworks in movesets. If Lucina and Chrom moved more like they do in FE Awakening and Warriors, that'd make them so much more interesting.
Idk why they make these mods besides just for fun. Making it competitive does not make since because melee players have melee and ultimate players have ultimate, making a middle ground does not feel necessary as a competitive tournament thing like pm
That's always been sorta my main issue with these "make game like Melee" styled mods. Changes can be for the sake of being like it was in Melee as opposed to being changed because it's a good change. Mind you HDR doesn't seem to do it quite as much as PM did way back when, but it's still present to some degree
TRUE Melee had tons of flaws along with the good stuff, many of which were fixed in subsequent games, mods should aim to take only the good parts if Melee while keeping the many improvements
Some melee tech just doesn't work and the HDR is a completely different feel even if it has some similar mechanics. big one is the movement being so floaty and not nearly as tight or clean

this is not really meant to be 1:1 to melee physics or just a melee mod anyways. feels more like a blend of rivals movement and accessibility with pm design philosophy

While I fully accept and appreciate that for the people who take Smash competitively Melee is the pinnacle of design, I have to say as a lifelong casual I do not miss the Melee days. This video just confirms it yet again. Entertaining video though!
I mean it's not meant to be just Melee, even movement wise, the buffer system is entirely reworked to compensate wavedashes making movement less arbitrarily difficult without dumbing it down among waaay more accessibility & balance changes. No video can really do the mod justice bc polish is something thats still a wip (for example, an update since this video came out adjusted knockback speed and hitstop/hitlag, with camera fixes coming too). Really wish people would show off the new stuff more often

I started with Melee and frankly still couldn't tell you what wavedashing is other than the quick back and forth people do to show off between stocks. I am firmly in the "best of my friend group and capable of getting to Elite Smash but would get bodied at an actual tournament if I ever wanted to attend (which I don't for many reasons)" and I'm ok with that. So I see something described as "making Ultimate like Melee" and I get that, even if to me that takes it a step backwards (as again, I am a filthy casul who prefers the casual QoL since Melee) but the moment you start breaking down the different techs that become possible with the Melee-ification of Ultimate, and you'll lose me very quickly. I see Ultimate as being much more approachable than Melee, or this mod making Ultimate more like Melee, and I think that's ultimately a good thing. That's more or less my bottom line.

This is mainly me interjecting my own thoughts cause I dislike how most coverage of the mod from youtubers like Hbox is "Ultimate but Melee" when there is a lot more to it than that. I don't play competitive much at all but HDR makes wavedashes literally as simple as jump plus hold R in a direction, its no longer a grind to enjoy strong movement. My friends dont even wavedash or do any special movement techs when we play and they still find something to appreciate balance wise. if Melee's missteps and diehard competitive audience turned you off the game, i'd give this a try, it really is a surprisingly thought out experience even as a beta and I think it has a strong future even potentially for casuals (e.x, the new tag mode and other gamemodes they want to do over time)

I feel like kazuya might be broken in this mod because all recoveries go past ledge. Unless they changed his down smash he could just spike anyone when they recover
No he's actually bad. Due to the nature of this mod which allows more DI, Kazuya falls apart when DI'd. He now requires ridiculous perfection to be optimal.
@@bharadwajkk6823 I mean DI lines are already needed to make any combo true. I'm guessing the DI makes them go further though, making combos like d-throw ewgf not true anymore?

the balloon knockback speeds up and is ttied to hitstun calculation. people are extremely uninformed on ballon kb lol

hdr looks fun but imo removing ledge snapping is a really bad change
