Hey Steve - stopped by to say "HI" - try to follow along with your works. Good job on this opening and first play - my one-and-only experience picking up an instrument like this was unique - the only guitars I played for so long were 12-strings and steel -- the whole smaller scale length and first play of something like this threw me -- you did a great job on that first play :) BOB
I really like Aklot's products (I wish they would make a taropatch (concert) 8 string. I love their bamboo ukuleles, and it sounds like they made the switch to dark markers now! I might have to buy another concert one! I'd love to have this bass; I have a bargain bass from Sam Ash (Carlo Robelli) and I don't play a lot of bass, unless I go to a local group, as there is never a bass player. Rachel Webley is the true bass player amongst us. Anyway, I wish this bamboo bass was out when I bought mine... That little hatch on the back is an element of better basses (although many share that), as it allows you to change the strings. I put the black thundergut strings on mine, and it was a chore without that trap door.
Looks like we can no longer get the dark fretless ubass here in the US (easily). Do you remember that one well enough to compare how this one seems in comparison? I am still trying to decide between fretted and fretless, but fretless are not easy to find.
Personally, I liked the dark one better, mostly because of its looks. Since you typically use it with an amplifier, the sound difference is is not significant to my ears. Being fretless does take some getting used to. I plan on doing a comparison video of the two of them in the next few weeks. Keep a lookout!
I just got one of these and absolutely love it! They're worth every penny I believe and sound great, especially plugged in. Our sound guys are loving the tone better than my other normal basses. Get one!
I find most, if not all ukulele basses sound very poor in tone. I think it's probably the size of the instrument, also the strings tend to be very floppy sounding. I like the idea of a ukulele bass but they never seem practical. I personally wouldn't waste the money them. I can see it as a fun gimmick which would soon rub off. Thanks for your review. Bless
Hello Steve I just got my aklot tenor u bass i was trying to turn it but the built-in tuner did not light up so I pulled out the jack piece and no battery i was wondering if your u bass come with one of thought little round battery thanks Steve cool video
My ubass just came yesterday,it didn’t came with instructions and no battery included . What size of battery did it need 😶 it looks nice ,but no instruction
I’m glad you liked it! I hear that Aklot is going to stop making their bamboo ukuleles. Because it’s made of strips of bamboo, you should treat it like a solid wood instrument. That means to keep it humidified to prevent the seems from separating.
Very cool little bass! I'm a big fan of bamboo. I've never seen a bamboo stringed instrument, it looks great 👍. Great review. What is the scale length? Are the strings nylon or steel?
Thanks! I’m glad you like it. I also reviewed the Aklot bamboo tenor ukulele several months ago. I really like it! Check it out! I’ll need to check on the scale length. My guess is it’s around 20 inches. The strings are a kind of rubber-like plastic.
Hey Steve - not sure what happened to your comment on my 2 finger video. Thinking you probably put a link in it. Can’t do that. I get too much spam. Anyway, it’s very subjective. First, you need to like the style to begin with. That will make it easier to learn. Saying a particular style is any easier than the next is sort of reckless in my opinion. But then again, we all have opinions right?
Hi Steve, Nice review. Bass Ukuleles are fun. A few quick points that may be helpful. The door in the back is for changing strings. U-Bass is a Kala trademark. If you would like to learn how to play bass ukulele check stevencoxbass on RUclips. Keep up the great work. 😊
Another good review Steve. A nice looking U-bass to boot, The bamboo finish with the black accents is really striking.
Thanks! I like it too!
after watching your review of Aklot bamboo U Bass I bought one and I love it, now I am taking lessons.
I’m glad you found my review useful! I’m glad you like it!
Great review...you are so detailed you answered all my questions...
Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful!
That bass looks very nice with those black tuners, sounds good too. Nice review Steve.
Thanks! I wish my playing could have done it justice. I guess I now have more motivation to learn.
@@stevesstrings5243 it sounded good

Thanks very much for the review! Just ordered mine in the UK :D
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I really like Aklot! They have an 8-string tenor you might be interested in.

I must admit, your normal bass must be pretty poor sounding if this sounds better.

As I recall the one I received only had one battery. It requires two. Thanks for watching and asking!
You never said what kind of battery. I cannot get mine to work electronically.
It should have come with the batteries. It takes CR2032 batteries. Mine was a bit tricky to install.

I like my Aklot bamboo ukuleles, a concert and a cutaway tenor. The bamboo ubass looks good. Is it going to need a bass amp?
I just plugged it into the amplifier that I happen have. I’m sure a bass purest would insist upon a bass amp!

Hi Mandy, Yes I put a link to a video that talked about the topic. I value your opinion so I thought I would ask. Thanks again!

Hi Daniel! Thanks! I did not know that! Thanks for the information!
I corrected the description as a "bass ukulele" in the title and text. Thanks again for making me aware that the term U-bass was a Kala trademark!
You're welcome. 😊
Thanks Steve, just got mine from Amazon.de....
Great! Let me know how you like it!
@@stevesstrings5243 Yupe, i really like it a lot, even though i just started to learn uke bass.
Glad to hear it!
It seems terrible.
I wouldn't say so. Check out some comments below by people who have bought them. Thanks for watching and commenting!
