I apologize for disturbing you, my Sony TV is not displaying any light or sensors. I operate it with the back buttons, but there are no lights and no television remote support.
This channel is the authority on sony tv repair. I see Nick running a business, yet he also helps people as much as he can when he can for free, with these videos, and constant replies to questions.
:) Thank you for the very nice comment
Thank you! I successfully "fixed" a free 65x9005C yesterday, all i had to do was disable the backlight check. Ive always had an aversion to "smart"-tvs and this one is not an exeption. The menue is slow and laggy and the streams have stutters... but still, the family is happy so we´ll use the tv for as long as it lives. Might order new LEDstrips if they fail too terribly in the future.
Hello Nick, motivated by your very understandable repair descriptions, I brought my Sony KD-65XG8505 back to life. Since there is no way to repair boards in Austria, I replaced the main.
Thank you for your videos and explanations.
Greetings from Austria, Herbert😉
Glad I could help!
Hello. i have a KD-55XG9505, nobody in Bucharest, Romania seems to dare to change the backlight leds, because the risk to broke the panel. Bypassing the 4 blink red led error could cause heating and fireing the tv from inside.i dont know how to change that backlight leds nobody wants to mess with.
Great video Nick!! So happy I found this channel when my main board died. You just repaired my KD-65X750F board and i can't thank you enough!
Hey I am happy to hear that and thank you for trusting us to work on your mainboard!
I am looking for same and this is rare.. everything is included..Thank you sir.
You are most welcome
Excelente maestro muy buena su técnica sin palabras un maestro en acción.maestro disculpe la molestia usted tendrá un software para programar una emmc de un tv sony XBR55x800e gracias de antemano feliz día
Hey Nick, I have an XBR-65X900E that works fine for short periods of time up to around an hour, but it will shut down during regular use and give me a flashing red led light (4x). A soft reset briefly restores functionality with the same inevitable shut down symptoms occuring within an hour.
The TV is otherwise in mint condition and has been subject to nothing but sitting in a clean indoor environment, normal gaming use and viewing RUclips videos. The picture looks the way it did the day I bought it; ie. flawless.
It really seems like the software is shutting it down for no reason.
That is going to be due to a backlight failure. You will need to replace your backlight also known as your LED strips

I like your video before I watch. Always so great! Thank you so muchj.
Wow, thank you!
Hi Nick! Thank you so much for posting this video and taking the time to answer all the questions. I have this XBR unit and it powers up but the screen is dark grey (led's only) then powers down after 20 seconds then gives me 5x blinking red lights. I saw on an earlier comment that this is the T-Con card? I just wanted to confirm and also see if you sell these cards? Cheers and thanks again.
It can be T-con but could also be a bad panel
Hi Nick, Thank you for the guide. I have a Sony xbr75-850f which turns on, however only has sound and backlight and has no display. Can I ask what could be broken and what should I troubleshoot first?
In my experience that is most likely a mainbaord failure, however it is possible your T-con and or panel could have gone out. If you want to send in your mainboard for us to test and troubleshoot we can do that for you but wouldn't be able to do that for your T-con or panel.
Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience, you've created a tremendous trouble shooting resource for sony tv's🙂
Thanks Nick for your help On the XR77A80J I will be junking it for future parts. ( we just got in Xbr65A8H OLED 4 blink code changed power supply No help[ another bad display From SONY Been fixing Sony sets since 1967 Not the same quality that it was
Yeah most 4 blinks are bad panel, this is the only model that I am aware of that has a 4 blink be often caused by a bad power supply. Usually it's always panel failure.
Hello Nick. Hope your doing well and cheers for these videos. I'm troubleshooting a KD55xe8096 , I'm only getting 3.5 standby and no other volts, so I was doing the jumper trick to force it on, trouble is I'm getting good volts on tcon pin etc , however I'm not getting the 12 volts on the power-on pin( only the 3.5 due to standby jumper) ..... so am not any closer to narrowing down which board,I want to believe it's main board issue.....I should have said I'm only getting the 3.5 standby, nothing else, hence doing the jumpers
You are giving the voltage to the Power on pin from the standby voltage so that line should indeed only get the 3.3v.
What this will do however is that it will power on the board and the 12v line should now be active. So you need to check the 12v line for 12v not the power_on line.
Hi, I have a KD55X9000E sony tv. When power on, sound works but screen image does not show and it stays black with a slight glow with no image/faint image. What seems to be the problem?
What have you done prior to this? If you have not already tried any repairs then this is most likely going to be a fault with your mainboard.
Hi. I have a xbr 65X855E as I've seen in your videos it is look like 65X850, from some days ago the screen turn to green and pink pattern like minute 1:40:36. Audio works ok when I push TV mode on the remote control, so it is seem that it is a just video issue. Do you know what is the problem and how can I fix it? I live in Argentina so it is impossible to get your repair services... main board number is A2170480A is the same of 65X850? Thanks a lot!!
Great video Nick, how about a 5 blink code in the Sony KDL SERIES??
That is not a very common fault but that could be a panel failure, T-con, or mainboard. It depends on the model number of the set. Each model is different and tends to have different likely faults. I would recommend you post a new comment with the full model number and I can look more into it.
If you reply to this comment I won't get a notification and most likely won't see so that's why I ask for you to do a new comment.
I have 77a80j and I lost wireless and wired network. Also, I lost Bluetooth and remote control. So, I replaced wi-fi and Bluetooth boards but it did not help. What could be a problem?
If the remote control failed I would recommend trying a new IR sensor. As for WIFI and bluetooth the easiest way to fix that is to use a 4k Firestick, Roku, Chromcast, Apple TV or other streaming devices as those will actually also help reduce the amount of wear and tear on the TV and extend it's life.
If replacing the IR sensor doesn't resolve the issue, then your mainboard has failed and will need to be repaired or replaced.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge........!!
My pleasure!
🎉

I have a 2014 KDL-60W610B Bravia 60” LED, in which I just learned has a 120Hz refresh rate and enjoyed for 10 years. I recently had a lightning storm and it went dead. I can hold the power button in and plug it in which brings up two circling arrows but then shuts down after 40 seconds or so. The LED flashes 3 times repeatedly. I love this set and would love to save it. Any ideas?
Sounds like you have a defective mainboard. Most likely a power surge came in through either the Ethernet cable or HDMI from the cable box.
Did other devices get affected?
Hi Nick, thank you so much for putting this helpful content together. I replaced my XBR-65X850E power board, then got the green/amber led flashing. Followed your guidelines on how to download the firmware for this unit, copy onto a usb drive, and verify the slowly blinking white led - I had to rename my file to upgrade_loader.pkg as suggested to see the slow blinking white led. Then however instead of taking that 1hr to process, my unit "clicks" after 3-4 mins, seemingly rebooting, then I get the green/amber led flashing again. I retried the process several times, starting out with the slowly blinking white led, then getting green/amber led flashing again after 3-4 mins. Any ideas on what else I can try out?
Also sound is working and unit responds to remote commands, just that screen seems to be dead. (black screen)
If your fault was power supply and that is all you replaced, then that should have never happened. However it sounds like you at some point decided to disconnect your ribbons or you tried swapping out your mainboard or T-con board? If that is the case then most likely your ribbons are not properly seated/installed and that is what is causing this issue.
@@NicksTVRepair thanks Nick, after persisting turns out I needed to try a different firmware file. I suspect the file I was originally trying with was failing the update due to my unit already being on the latest firmware, so I tried a different firmware file for the same model number (different country) and after about the same 3-4 mins, the unit rebooted and my screen came back to life, happy days since then.
For anyone wanting to try this, it could be risky to try with a different firmware file but I was really running out of options with the green/amber led persisting - hope this helps someone else.
i have xbr-75X900E when turn on white led on later change to red light blingking 4 times but tv do not turn on no sound of click from thr power supply. Before when turning on you will hear the clicking sound and the tv turn on. What is that red led code 4 times blinking?
than you so much more power to your channe;
4 blinks indicates you have a backlight failure.
The backlight is another word for your LED's that illumiate your screen. You have to replace the LED strips to fix your TV. This is something that is more advanced and I would recommend you find a local TV shop to help you with this repair.
Hey nick i have a question for you. I have a sony xbr49x900e. The tv suddenly developed a line horizontally 1/3rd of the way from the top. The line isint black or white but has some changing colours and the partof the screen above it is just a little bit brighter than the rest of the screen. I checked the ribbon cables and they seem to be ok. I cleaned them well. I know someone had similar issue and posted it on google but I havent had found a definite solution rather than “replacing” the whole tv as it isint in warranty anymore. Could u suggest what could be the problem?
First I would like to say thank you for posting the full model number of the TV. Unfortunately a horizontal line on that type of model is typically caused by the panel itself failing. I am sorry but this is a situation where it is not financially viable to fix the set. Replacing the TV is your best option.
FANTASTIC content Nick! You do a great job empowering people to repair their TV's and explain things in a logical yet easily digestible way.
I have a XBR65X930C that I was able to repair due to your helpful videos. Unfortunately it didn't last too much longer. I have a few thin horizontal lines across the screen that I cannot get to go away regardless of which ribbon cable I pull off of the T-con board output. I'm suspecting gate driver failures (don't know how to confirm), but I cannot seem to source a replacement panel.
I REALLY appreciate the resource you provide to the community, keep up the great work!!
Hi, the eproom you are replacing with the new one, you upload the firmware via USB only, I have the new eproom, is it already programmed? thanks
No, the eMMC chip is pre programmed off the board, in a specialized device for programing IC chips that is very expensive. Then the programmed chip is soldered to the mainboard. Once that process is completed the mainbaord is fixed and working. However it does need to be paired to the TV it is being installed to. The pairing has nothing to do with the repair of the board or the eMMC chip. Any time you take a mainboard from one TV and are installing it into another you have to pair the mainboard.
Hi NTVR
I have a Bravia 55x900F that powers on to the Android screen followed by black screen and 4 blinking reds. I want to try the "ground the BL-ERR pin trick" per your video, but the only place I find board markings for a BL-ERR pin on the 900F is at the connector on the Power Supply board. Your video shows doing the grounding at the LED Driver board but I cannot find board markings on the LED Driver board connector. So, which pin and where is it that I need to ground on the 900F? Do I simply ground the BL-ERR pin on the Power Supply board?
The BL_ERR ground trick only works for the 900c. Since you have a 900F you need to replace the LED strips to fix your set.
Sorry, no easy way out on the 900F model.
Hello Nick! Thanks for your very informative videos!! I am troubleshooting an XBR 65X900E with the external power supply. My problem is dead no power lights or sound. I cannot find a list of voltages for the step-down board (in the TV) so that I can further troubleshoot the TV. I have bought a new step-down board and a used mainboard from eBay and I still have the same problem. I have measured the voltage from the external power supply, and it is 24v. I don't really have a way to load test it. Do you have any suggestions about next steps? More than willing to send parts to you as well. This TV has about 50 hours on it. Thanks for any information or help.
With those models I always see the mainboard go out. I have yet to see any other parts fail but other techs have reported that the small power board goes out and the external power supply goes out. Again I have never seen that before and have worked on a lot of these. Just check to see if you are getting voltages to the mainboard from the power supply. If you are, then the mainboard is the fault. If you aren't then that little power board is most likely the issue since you said you had 24v from the external brick.
If you still aren't able to identify which is at fault you can send in both along with the cable connecting the small power board and the mainboard and we can test them in our unit for functionality and go from there.
For that, I would say to contact us directly.
The video description has our contact info if you have more questions.
Hey Nick, I have an XBR-65X850F. The power supply has no output voltage on standby or Reg12. I ordered a new one and it’s the same thing. What are the odds the new power supply is also bad? Any thoughts?
Disconnect your power supply from everything else and then do voltage checks. Odds are more in favor that something else in the set is bringing down the voltage. If this is the case then reconnect each item one at a time until you find the culprit. If not, send me an email or fill out our contact form (both are in the video description) and we can discuss options further.
Please tell me how you resolve the issue with Netflix and Miracast when replacing EMMS?
We have customers use an external device to access smart apps. It's better and faster than any native app anyway. Most people already own a Firestick, Apple TV, Chromecast, or Roku anyway.
Which TV panel type has the most problems

I have Model KLV26BX310.after switching on it takes a couple of seconds, goes off on,then blinks 6 times then the led indicator goes off neither Red nor green, please reply
6 blinks = backlight failure
Hello again Nick. If the power board measures ok, however no standby light, no sign of any power at all except the click of the power board when plug is connected or disconnected from the wall?? Could a bad software update stop everything?
Yes that is commonly the case. Keep in mind though the software itself is usually not the fault, the fault is more commonly due to a defective eMMC chip. The chip itself degrades over time. Once it gets bad enough certain sections of the memory chip where the code is written to won't work so when the software needs to pull information from certain sections of the chip, it won't be able to and the system will freeze, corrupt, and cause these faults.
Hi Nick, today while continuing my troubleshooting I plug TV into wall and there is no click now,so the problem has got worse. Back to square one, really confused
I have a Sony Bravia KD-55X8507C TV. When I turn on the TV, it works fine without any problems. However, after using the TV for a longer period, approximately an hour, when I turn it off and then back on, it doesn't work. I only see a black screen (the backlight turns on), but nothing appears on the screen-no logo, no menus, and no volume. I suspect this has to do with the temperature because after about 30/40 minutes, the TV turns on normally without any issues.
I currently have the TV open, and I don't see any obvious signs of damage. The power board on the left is not excessively warm. The metal covering the Tcon board does get warm, but not to the point of burning your hands. The same goes for the mainboard (the black and white heatsinks) which get approximately equally warm, with the black one being slightly warmer than the white one.
Now the question is, is there anything I can do to get the TV to function normally again?
I can't say that I have ever heard of anyone with this issue before.
You get backlight but no audio and no picture? If you get both backlight and audio but no picture then I would say you may have a T-con fault. But if you can't get the audio either then you may have a mainboard fault
hi Nick, I have a sony Bravia KD-55XE8396 which went into a boot loop... i loaded the firmware via USB and it came back to life and all seems fine apart from when using streaming apps (disney+, Apple TV etc) which appears to be Macro Blocking ... normal aerial tv is fine tho... any ideas?
I recommend avoiding the built in apps and using an external streaming device such as firestick, roku, chromcast, apple tv, or other similar streaming device.
Good Afternoon. I have a Model # KD-55X720E Aug 2017 Ser # 4037952. I have where the TV will turn on, but will turn back off after 3 attempts and then flash the red light 3-5 times. I would like to know where your shop is or if you can recommend someone here in Houston,Texas? Signed:Love my Sony TV.
For the 4 red light issue, grounding the blk_err wire did not work for me on X900F. Backlights would sometimes turn on when I press the screen but as soon as I let go my hand, it will shut off again. Is there any way to bypass the error on X900F?
That only works with the 900C. To fix a 4 blink issue with your TV, you have to replaec the LED strips.
For the 85x850g would it be the main board issue when it’s stuck on the Sony logo and cycle on and off, sometimes turn the screen green , or flickering the image of the Sony logo?
Stuck on Sony logo is most definitely a Mainboard fault. Cycling on and off is most definitely a mainboard fault.
Flickering of the image is a bit of an odd symptom but it can also be due to the mainboard although that could also be LED backlight related or a screen fault.
Hi there. What about the 2016 master flagship, the z9d? This was the unit with the backlight master drive. I purchased this in 2018 , the 65inch z9d(prior to them ending production) and the unit began to reboot when I was on RUclips, but didn’t make it past the Sony logo. I could still hear sound from the Apple TV 4K remote connected to the sound bar. The unit turned on the next day once without sound, and while it clicked it was stuck on the Sony logo without a led light. It now can’t power on at all. What could be the issue? Thank you in advance.
That's going to be a mainboard failure
@@NicksTVRepair Thank you for the quick response. I will get that replaced.
Good luck!
Good afternoon. I have a Sony XBR-65x850E that is displaying the 6 red blink error code. If you unplug the unit, let it cool, and plug it back in, it will boot up just fine and play for minutes to 5 to 10 minutes. It shuts down and that's when I get the six red blinks. Again, if you let it cool, unplug, replug, and turn it back on it will start up and play for a while.
Any suggestions? It sounds like possibly overheating, but, I have confirmed that the vents are not clogged and it is open in the back for lots of airflow.
This is due to bad LED strips. If you go to your settings and bring the backlight brightness down you will probably notice the set will play for a longer duration of time before going back to the 6-blink fault.
The fix is to replace your LED strips which is a very labor-intensive process. I wouldn't usually recommend doing it yourself as this is also a high-risk repair as you have to remove the screen from the set to access the backlight which can often lead to cracking the screen if not done correctly.
Weird issue. have a 65x90ch that all of a sudden went black. Sound works. no blinking lights. soft, hard, and factory resets all don't change anything. backlights have all been tested with a led backlight tester and all zone have the same voltage. The backlights do come on when powered on. No image with a flashlight. Anybidea what would make a tv function but jave a black screen? would a defective panel cause a black screen and no faults?
That is indeed very strange. If the panel or T-con had failed usually you would see a 5 blink error code.
It is possible the mainboard is defective. If you wanted to send in the mainboard for us to diagnose and live test we can at least confirm if it's functional or not. If not we should be able to fix it via replacing the eMMC chip and if it works at least we can rule it out at which point I would then recommend trying to replace the T-con next.
@@NicksTVRepair well the weirdness doesn't end. I determined it was the incorrect main board installed. I ordered the correct replacement, installed it, and screen was still black. did a firmware update to pair the boards. still black. disconnected the update drive and did a factory reset. upon finishing the reset the tv just suddenly turned off. Wouldn't turn on again. Checked the power supply and now it's dead. have you experienced a main board or update causing a power supply to immediately fail?
28:00 you've explained that need to be paired MoBo and the T-con, but didn't say how to do it. Would you mind mentioning it here, please? :)
Yeah, I did a few videos on that actually. If you check the video description there are time stamps to each video that is included here including 2 videos for pairing that are near the end.

Hello sir, i have sony xbr-75x800g . Problem is its power click but no response. No light. Can you help.
Based on only this information without seeing the TV I would say odds are that it's a mainboard failure.
Hi Nick - I have a TV question for you. I watched an old VHS that I found and it was just a weird, static-y white circle and now there's like a ghost girl that tells me scary things. Does this seem more like a short or possibly an emmc issue?
Haha I don't know I think I would need to watch the video myself to get a better idea of what this is.
Hi nick I have a Xbr 65 A9G when I plug it in I get the 4 flashing lights what do you recommend I do please….i live in the Bronx New York maybe you can point me to a repair shop you recommend near me thanks
That's going to be most likely a backlight failure. But I would recommend also checking your Power supply and LED driver as those have been known to occasionally also cause that blink code.
If I were you, I would find a seller with those 2 boards that are for sure known working, and that has a good return policy, swap them out and see what you get. If the fault is still there after replacing those 2 boards then it means you have defective backlights which is also more broadly called "panel" and you won't be able to fix this TV unfortunately unless you can get it done under warranty from Sony.
Thanks for a great video. My kd-43x8305c was dead so i replaced main board after doing v checks as suggested on your video.
I ran the software update on the ebay board ahd got a pulsing white led that after an hour or so led turns blue, then restarts with pulsing white again. Any ideas as i cannot find any info on blue status
There is going to be a dark blue almost ultraviolet light to comes up right at the very end of the pairing process. Then it goes away and the TV is supposed to turn off and back on either asking for the pairing a second time or it will turn on as it should with picture and go to the normal boot up menu.
Now if it's stuck on the blue light or it keeps cycling back to pairing indefinitely it is often due to the mainboad being defective.
It's rare but sometimes it is because of the software on the flashdrive so maybe try redownloading the software fresh from the Sony support website and rename it to upgrade_loader.pkg

No need for specialized tools or to measure anything. I do that in the video to visually show you the viewer that what I am doing and saying is happening, nothing more. Per the video look for the BL_ERR pin on your power supply and look for a ground pin. Ground your BL_ERR pin and you are done. You just need to look for the legend and it will have all the information you need.
unfortunately it doesn't say on the board hence i asked if someone would know what pin it is for that specific model but ty@@NicksTVRepair

If I do the jumper pins on my 75 900f I only get the backlight not the color test pattern. What could this be?
To me, it would mean your mainboard is defective. eBay is full of non-working boards so it's possible you received a dud or you didn't pair the board to your TV.
If you would like to send in your mainboard for us to live test and fix we can do so, this way we can confirm the diagnostic and then perform the repairs. This way you know for sure whether or not the mainboard was the fault, and since we live test the board both before and after repairs we know again for sure the board you will get back is fully functional. We also provide you with the flash drive and instructions for pairing.
I got a tricky one for ya.
9 red blinks.
I have removed the tuner board from the main board as it is seprate still get the same result....
Can a sony tv run without the tuner board ?
Tv is a KD-70X8500B
I got a feeling it's the main board
Can you count that again. 9 blinks is not supposed to exist. So if you have 9 blinks your mainboard is glitching and providing you a blink code that doesn't exist in which case I would say your mainboard has some sort of software failure and needs to have the eMMC replaced or perhaps processor replaced.
@@NicksTVRepair definitely 9 blinks nick 100 percent i might just replace main board completely.
It says it can be the tuner board but doubt it.
If you look online 9 blinks does exist and it says tuner board. Happy for you to say otherwise as your really good on the tv stuff.
@@NicksTVRepair do you have a work email i can even flim it and show you if needed
Oh you know what my bad yeah you are right. 9 blinks might exist because this is a 2014 model. Any model made before 2015 we don't work on, they had a completely different way of operating that was over the top complicated and difficult to work with. The 2015 and newer models don't have a 9 blink code and I thought yours was a 2015 or newer.
I am sorry I can't help you with that, we really do only work with 2015 and newer only.
I have a 55x90j has 4 blinking lights. Is it worth fixing?
Is a Ferrari worth fixing.
Hi Nick, I have an 2014 Model XBR-55x850B. I can appreciate your videos and the details. My tv has started with a crackling sound output from the TV. The Optical, HDMI, and Internal Speakers exhibit the same behavior. Would replacing the board help? Or is there another part I can check?
Thank You!
Shay
Hello Shay,
Sorry, but none of the Sony repairs I do apply to your unit as I only work on 2015 and newer models. The 2013 and 2014 units did work drastically differently.
What I can tell you is I don't recommend trying to replace the mainboard as you will need to pair the new replacement mainboard to your TV and doing so is no longer possible as the software is no longer supported by Sony. Your best bet is to use an external sound system with a receiver and plug in your HDMI and other external devices to the receiver first so it can extract the audio and then send only the video signal to the TV.
This workaround is your best bet for resolving your audio issue.
@@NicksTVRepair Thank you for the response. I really appreciate the advice!

Have you worked on a Sony 65-inch XBR-65X950G? I can't find anything on RUclips for this model. Literally nothing. I've had no issues with it yet, but when and if I do, I would like the knowledge to know how to, so I can fix it myself, but I can't find any info to do research so I can. Can you help me with this or point me in the right direction? I would greatly appreciate it, thank you...
We have worked on them but not often. I have had one come in with a 4 blink code which can be LED strip failure but also a backlight inverter. We have seen one come in with a bad panel, which we couldn't fix without replacing the entire screen. Unfortunately, that was cost prohibitive so we sold the customer a replacement Sony with a credit for their parts, and we have seen 2 with a mainboard fault.
So right now this TV does seem to be a bit all over the place for us in terms of common faults. But the good news is that while we have too small of a sample size to get reliable info, it means we don't see it fail that often.
If we do start seeing it come in more, I am sure we will do a video on it.
Great video Nick I don't have much time to watch in once, but I will pice by pice.
For me, this video isn't necessarily something to sit down and watch, but a tool you can use when you come across some of these Sony sets and you need a reminder of how to do the diag on them, or pair the replacement mainboard, and so on. We have over 40 Sony videos on the channel but it's disorganized. This way it's nice and organized for everyone.
I hope it helps!
I have a Sony NSX-46GT1 Model. Did a factory reset on it by accident. Now, its not letting me get pass the google account sign in step. Because its an older tv, and its not supported any more. Its not letting me skip this step. So i cannot even use the tv. Need your help please.
I am sorry I don't know how to help you as I haven't really worked on these models before or encountered that issue. All I would be able to do is try googling this around on the internet and see if someone else has had that problem before and how they resolved it.
If you find the answer, please let me know so that I can help the next person that asks with this issue.
sony doesnt offer the firmware downloads for some of their tvs anymore. i need the firmware files for xbr-55x810c and xbr-65x810c. do u have these files?
Hello,
Yes unfortunately this is a new development. I don't have an easy way for people to access the firmware at this time other than I have it preloaded on flashdrives I can mail out but I have to charge for the flashdrive shipping and the time it takes to make all the drives. I am working on a fast and free alternative option such as hosting the software myself on megaupload (free to you but I have to pay for hosting) but it will take me some time before I can have it available.
I have an XBR75X850F that turns on and has sound and controller function but no image appears. Backlights seem to turn on (can see exterior glow around edges). Tried factory reboot and it now sounds like its on the initial setup screen but no image. Thoughts?
Just for posterity and anyone having the same problem, I took a guess and replaced T-Con board. TV works great now.
Wow really. That's unusual. Please follow up if the fault comes back. Usually we see mainboards failing and causing that issue.
@@NicksTVRepair I have the same issue. Backlight is on, I can hear sound but no picture. I've tried factory reset, updating firmware, checking FFC connectors. No flashing error codes. Also seems like there are no shorts near main chip. Any further tips where to dig?
I figured out that in my case it was faulty ribbon cable between TCON and motherboard. Huge thanks Nick!

Hi nick
I have a xr77a80j
With 4 blink code after 6months of chasing my tail on this I have changed the main and power supply it plays for 20 mins
On service menu shows
The shutdown the panel is the issue shorts out
So I am junking it 😢
Hope this helps someone else
Reduce the backlight down to the minimum amount possible. If this allows the set to run long then it would indeed confirm the backlight on the panel is going out. This is the worst case scenario since the backlight is integrated into the screen and can't be replaced.
Do you guys come across x900f sets with power, backlight and sound no picture?
Yes we do. We have seen that be caused by a defective mainboard. The processors for those we see commonly fail and can cause that symptom you are experiencing.
If you want, we do replace the processors and can fix yours.
What is the full model number of your TV?
@@NicksTVRepair It is an xbr65x900f. I have power, backlight and sound. I have tried 2 replacement t-cons with no change and I am swapped in the mainboard from a 55x900f (my kids cracked the screen, is known working) updated firmware and did the pairing and I can try another donor mainboard from a 65x900f. I tried to rule out the panel, disconnecting one side of the control output from the t-con at a time to see if one side is the issue. No change with either side disconnected. So I'm kind of stumped, I don't think its the power board as the T-con heatsink does get warm, and as far as I read the led driver is more related to the backlight which works. I can't believe the whole panel just died out of the blue, both sides.
Yeah the replacement from the 55" should have worked. The mainboard is compatible with both sides so that's weird. You were able to succesffully pair the mainboard and get the set to turn on with a white standby light but the picture still was not showing up?
Unless the ribbons were not properly connected or the pairing didn't take properly I am not sure because it is very rare for these TV's to get a bad panel. That is one thing about Sony, yes the mainboards sometimes fail but the panels are built really well so even though yes the TV's can fail sometimes it's almost always something that is fixable.
Only thing i can offer you would be to send the mainboard in and we can live test it in our good set and confirm if the picture is working or not.
@@NicksTVRepair that's what I figured, I knock backlight failure is a thing but I did think actually panel failure was. Especially after learning that panels have a split into two sides for output, and the the odds of both sides just dying seem even lower to me. So when I put the 55" main in, I did the firmware update and it paired. When I tried a second and known working tcon, it did not need to pair or try to. It didn't notice the change. I have 2 other main boards swap in and I'm gonna put one back to 55" firmware to then force pairing on the 65" with firmware update. I would send it in but I'm in Toronto, so it's cost prohibitive. Plus I like tinkering. I'm gonna do some checking with a multimeter. I'm completely ruling out the led driver board, cause it's not a backlight issue. Is it possible the power board is faulty? I know it's getting some power cause the chips warm up the heatsink, but that doesn't mean it's getting enough power. Maybe the ribbon cables? Appreciate the help btw.

Yup, we have fixed several of these already. Any specific question?

Hey Nick please help. Xbr-85x850g I have verticle lines that starts during or right after the sony logo. Its not the t-con i replaced it with a known good board. Whatelse could it be? Thank you
The fault you are describing sounds like a screen failure but there is a small chance they are due to the mainboard. Have you tried a new mainbaord?
Could you by send me an email with a short video of the Sony logo appearing properly and then the lines or a picture of the lines. That might give me a better idea of what could be happening. Our email is in the video description at the bottom of the description after all the time stamps.
Haven't tried a new mainboard. What email can i send you a video? Thanks
Also should note that it always looks perfect (hopefully not a screen) for the first 2 to 5 seconds then the verticle slowly appear until you cant really see anything but the lines.
Hello,
My Tv 49wd755 have no power what you mean is the problem. I need help thanks :s
Sorry, I am not familiar with that model. The mainboard can cause a lot of the no-power faults, I would suggest replacing that first but that's a guess based on past experiences.
Slowly but surely! 🤝
XR-77A80CJ (OLED) screen flash once when powering on. Nothing else...no sound etc. All boards replaced and working. Probably main eMMC failed like many Android TVs?
Do you get an error code from the standby light? If yes, then please let me know exactly how many times it blinks. If not, then yes you are correct, it is probably the mainboard. If you already replaced the mainboard and still have the same issue, then it is likely you received a defective one. A lot of people sell replacement mainboards that don't work. I am biased of course but this is one of the reasons it makes more sense to have a new eMMC installed on your mainbaord than buying a used one. Even if the used one works, who knows for how long.
When we replace the eMMC you know you have a brand new eMMC chip that will last for years to come, and we also provide a 1 Year warranty with the repair which you won't ever get when buying a board even if it's brand new.
@@NicksTVRepair Thanks, its a family friends TV so unfortunately I don't know the blink code. I think blinks 4x as I recall googling for that and found many occurrences. I gave them shopjimmy's board set and said its a risk but could work if panel isn't defective. They bought the boards, swapped and TV worked. They are ecstatic. I have repaired quite a few recent model TVs and have come across dead eMMCs on HiSense and SONY Android TVs so suspect this is likely the mainboard issue. I asked them to give me the boards and perhaps I'll send it to you (free) and you can fix it and keep it for stock. Better than waste :) I'll reach out as soon as I get the boards (in different town) and get your ship address. thx for the great info Nick! I presume you are Nick on badcaps... I have a 2016 Sony Xbox-55x850D, one day no power. Took to repair guy who told me it was main control board but he wanted 400+ to replace when the part is 170 to get to me. I opted to that router but main board came in and I installed and same issue. Any ideas on what to do next?
You have a 2016 Sony XBOX! Wow, I didn't know they made those! Incredible.
As for your Sony XBR-55X850D, the most likely reason you have no power is either because it wasn't paired to the TV, or the mainboard you were sold is defective.
These mainboards are discontinued and no longer available for sale, only used ones or refurbished ones are available now.
If you want to send in your mainboard to our repair facility, we can live test it for you, confirm the fault, repair it, and of course we live test the board again for functionality before sending it back. This way you know 100% for sure the board you sent was the fault since we confirmed it before repairs, and have 100% confidence it's working because we live-tested it on the way out.
Most sellers of these mainboards bought big lots of dozens of returns or broken TVs, gutted them, and put the parts for sale not really knowing what is and what is not working. That is why there are a lot of bad parts out there.

The standby light never comes on.
I used my multimeter but I don’t have a layout on board of what the pins correspond to. The readings I am getting are 19.95 which I can say is volt as indicated on power brick. Other reading is 2.24 which is suppose to be 3.3 as stated in your videos but I don’t know if that’s the fact for every tv. The reading is true on both ends other the connector from power board to main board. I have download software to sub drive to pair it but no power get to usb drive or optical as you state in video. So now i have old board and recently purchased board behaving the same way. Can we chat about this more directly through email or phone ? Thanks.
Hey Nick. I have a 55X90J it’s only been used 2years. It has 4 blinking lights. Is it worth fixing? I on a limited income.
Regardless of your income, this TV is worth fixing. You will need to replace the LED strips to get it back up and running. It is a fairly labor intensive repair, but this is a very nice set and most definitely worth fixing. If you can afford the repairs right now or if you might need to save up for the repair is a different question only you can answer.

No screen can ever be fixed.
It can be replaced but that is not typically a financially viable repair.
Hey man, thanks for this super useful video, i have a KD-49XH9505 (2020 led model) and it stopped turning on yesterday, i can boot until the Android logo then it turns off followed by 4 red blinking light, do you think you can identify this issue ? I've tried a hard reset but after the light turns green, it boots to the Android logo then turns off again. Help is appreciated 🫶
4 blinks is an indication of the following failure in order of the most to least likely
LED strips
LED driver board
Power supply
99% of the time it's the LEDs in my experience, sometimes its both the LEDS and the LED driver board or power supply. Almost never is it only the LED driver board but I can't say never because I have seen it happen twice before.
@@NicksTVRepair for my specific TV model right ? Thanks a lot for your response even if it made me hopeless for my TV 😅 i don't see myself changing the led strips at all if they're the culprit here, i hope it's not them that are causing this problem, if it's like the led board or the power board that's fine really ! Hi, did you ever fixed a tv plasma Model : TH-42PX60U Panasonic, My tv have bars in it, at left side there is like 2 black lines and 2 other lines are like distorted with color and sometimes those 2 other lines get back to normal but change as the image change... I live in Canada(Québec) .. to far to send it to you xD Thank You! Sorry for my bad english ^_^
Most likely you have a bad panel. Connectors don't get loose on their own unless you opened up the TV and caused that to happen in which case you would know exactly which connector is loose. But if you didn't open up your TV and it's been sitting still on your wall mount of TV stand then your screen is probably just going out. There is unfortunately no repair for this.
How about a sony that flashes 6 times when powered on.
That will be LED strip failure. You will need to replace your LEDs to fix that issue.

Sure sounds like a mainboad fault. I can't guarantee a diagnostic done via 1 symptom in a RUclips comment, but in my experience what you are describing is a classic mainboard fault. I am not saying eMMC because I have seen the CPU go out and also cause that fault, but if you replace the mainbaord you would cover both chips.

Hi nick
hello
👍👍👍
TV's today, chip goes bad in three years and then the panel goes bad in seven years.
Spending $1400 for a new TV divided by seven = costing $200 per year, add at least another $150 for one repair.
Or get a Hisense A7 65" for $399 as a throw away TV, it might last three years.
Repairs are always worth it over throwing it away.

@@NicksTVRepairI agree about the picture quality. Most easy tvs to fix are Vestels, did not think they exist in the US,pretty popular OEM manufacturer of budget tv sets here in Europe though.
@@dimitrismaster What i like the most about the Sony sets is that unlike some of the other brands they don't typically have panel pailures, so the screens don't fail often and the LED's don't fail often (a couple lower end models do but few).
