Rob Arnold ROB! As a drummer and longtime Chimaira fan I have to ask... As much as I LOVE Andols' Drumming (Kevin Talley is great too), where did you find Austin D' Amond? His style is insane and so NOT metal, but it works! And is it true he's really not a big Metal guy?
My man Austin D' Amond is the shit right?! He came up in a band called Bleed The Sky, and he's currently Devil Drivers drummer. Austin is one of the most metal guys you could ever meet... But, he's also one of the biggest hip hop lovers you could ever meet. And so therefor, he has a very unique style. 🤘
And if you don’t believe Rob at 6:40, check out his rig run through video from years ago when he finishes with Venom Inside. I loved it because if I recall correctly, he said something to the effect of, “go ahead and check my levels, tones, etc. and copy them... because the REAL tone comes from right here (as he was pointing to the left side / edge of his right hand’s palm)”. Hahahaha bad ass!
Rob - There’s a part in the Resurrection documentary where you and Matt talk about how it’s awesome when the other compliments how fun it is to play the other’s riffs. I believe this was during the part where the documentary is covering The Flame. What is your favorite riff to play that Matt wrote? Do you know what his favorite riff to play that you wrote is?
Chimaira, slipknot, fear factory was a great tour. Only thing it was missing was Dino. 05 self title run was my favorite. You guys sounded just like the cd live. It was nuts. Top 3 shows of all time for me. No doubt.
The first album I bought was Chimaira's self titled. Still have it. I tortured that CD through my Sony Walkman. I went back and bought the rest of Chimaira's catalogue and still blast that today when I work on music myself!!!
I saw you in 2009 on the Music as a Weapon tour with Disturbed in Orlando! It started with a free show outside the Amway Center with Suicide Silence and Bury Your Dead, then the concert inside just obliterated and easily made my top 5 concerts 🤘🏻
Rob "clean-cut metal" Arnold :) I love your recent videos (and the Doc Coyle X-Man Podcast episode you did) man ! Keep up the good work. Cheers from France
Once again I really enjoyed this weeks "Everything you love Ep 06" It was nice to hear some more about the early days of Chimaira. One thing I'd like to know is, was the reunion show in 2017 ever filmed ? If not then maybe you should see if anyone ever did film it, as it would be really nice to get it on DVD.
Rob, I was so stoked to hear you say that your favorite tour was with Disturbed in 2009! If I remember correctly, it was called Music as a Weapon. I was 15 years old and already a diehard metal head. My older brother surprised me with tickets for my birthday and we saw you guys in State College, PA at the Bryce Jordan Center. I’ll never forget the entire crowd head banging in perfect unison to you guys. It was insanely metal, never felt anything like it. My first concert, crowd surfed three times and lost my shoe in the Killswitch Wall of Death. I’ve gone to 20+ shows since, but nothing will ever come close to that day. 10 years ago and the memories are still crystal clear. One of those things you’ll never forget. And the fondest memory I have with my older bro. Thanks for everything Rob, you’re legendary.
Music as a Weapon 2009 (Orlando) was my first Chimaira show. Hell, I still have my gas mask tour shirt from y'all when tho it's a size or 2 too small now. I'll never forget that show. My friends and I showed up way early. Meet Andols as he was leaving to go pick up his wife from the airport. The band had a met and greet later in the day and we were front of the line. Unfortunately Andols couldn't make it so we felt kinda special because we were the only 4 people at the while festival to meet to full band. You guys were so awesome. You even pulled us to the side while you did your whole meet and greet so we could take a picture with everyone, which wasn't aloud since y'all were seated at a table and it would be time consuming. I just want to say thank you for that. You made an incredible memory for 4 life long fans. Thank you so much. You may not remember, but we sure as Hell will never forget. Also had the pleasure of meeting y'all in Tampa the following year when you supported Trivium for their "Into the Mouth of Hell" tour along with Whitechapel and Dirge Within. You handed me a setlist after your set and all of y'all signed it for me out back and chatted with us until it was bus call. Once again, thank you for the great memories. If there is another Chimaira Christmas, I will be flying up from Florida to see it. I would love to get new pictures with the band and have y'all sign that tour shirt from 09 so I can proudly display it next to that setlist. Thanks for the memories Rob. You have no idea what these little gestures mean to my friends and myself. Hopefully more to come. 🍻
hi Rob, I spent my youth listening, playing and watching dvds from Chimaira, listening to this sound, trying to replicate and right now, watching you share all this content is being wonderful, thank you and continue !!!
I used an 808 before the block letter model in my Helix. It needed a little something extra to help get that tone. Speaking of which, I redid it with some ml Sound Lab IRs and it sounds way closer. It wasn’t far off to begin with though.
I'm not to sure if I have told you Rob. I have started a group page on Facebook called Chimaira fans world wide and I have been sharing some of the "Everything you love Ep on the group page. Plus some other things.
That is so fucking awesome seeing that riff broken-down at the end I just showing my girlfriend the play through he other day and I was like man that’s always been one of my favorite riffs of the song and I looked at her and said “I can’t even wrap my head around that riff it’s just vicious” but seeing it broken down now I truly see the pattern and how it flows together! I’m definitely gonna learn it, thanks again Rob!
9:55 Wow! I got to see you guys on that tour! One of my all time favorite shows! I was in 8th grade! Also, Spineshank, Bury Your Dead, and Suicide Silence in the parking lot! Absolutely insane lineup!
The dedication! answering Q&A whether you’re checking your oil, reading the newspaper on the toilet, or while commuting. Astonishing focus on the fans LOL
The Slipknot tour in '04 is still to this day my all time favorite show (been to 100's of shows just to get an idea). Slipknot, Fear Factory and Chimaira! It was at the Norva that only fits 1,300 people, was so sick to see a show of that status in such a small venue. People were offering 100's of dollars for tickets to get in to, told them not in a million years! But one unforgettable night. Gives me chills just thinking about it. EDIT: you guys were by far the best that night! Followed by FF then Slipkont! If I could ever relive one night it would have to be that night.
I remember when you told me back in the day to be professional at shows. I took that advice with me playing in a local bar for no one but my parents all the way to sold out Maryland Death Fest. I've always appreciated your advice and more importantly your honesty!
That show at Tower City Amphitheater was brutal! I personally thought disturbed live sucked, (my opinion.. that was the only time I seen them live) killswitch was awesome as with Lacuna Coil. But Chimaira kicked everyone in the mouth when they played.! It was just something about crowd surfing from the back to front, dropping into 10 different pits.. then thrown back up like a roll of toilet paper. Thank you for that. Chimaira is the only reason I went to that show.
Heyyy man!Another awesome video.I dont know what more to say at this point,..,other than that im loving it.Greetings from the NorwegianViking, Stefan :)
Hey Rob, was hoping you’d take the time to answer my question for one of your EYL vids... Alive or dead. Going back into time or present day. Whilst in this band’s or solo artist’s prime or not: If you as a fan could be front stage at ANY show that transpired, or sitting alongside the final cut at a studio, or even a fly on the wall when something was written, which artist / band and tour / recording / writing would you choose and why? And to Rob’s fans, if you're reading this, you need to discover The Elite if you haven’t already as they’re simply the best!
Great video Rob. I recently saw Phil & the Illegals do the full Pantera set on tour with Slayer. You were right about Phil sounding really good live. He dosen't sound much different from the Pantera days. Keep rockin brother 🤘
Thank you for answering my question Rob! That actually surprises me because of just how punchy and gritty your tones are but.. like all the greats have said. The tone is in the hands. Cheers brother!
I really appreciate the added insight you add to these. I was up front at the Pound SF show you mentioned. Also there when you played outside and filmed for Pure Hatred. Great times.
Music as a weapon was the first of many times I was able to see Chimaira live then the Chimaira Christms 15 was the last. The dude who won the signed guitar was from Colorado.
Even though my last attempt at "making it" didn't pan out, I applied all those suggestions as it had always worked for me in the past. Especially networking. We played a show with PVRIS, and we didn't fit on the bill, but their bassist loved us so much he offered to help us unload our equipment off stage and into our vehicles. Not only that, but he asked to add me on Facebook to keep in contact. So it is as much as who you know as what you know.
Damn, no boosts in front of the amp?. I would have thought The impossibility of reason's guitar tone would have been boosted, given how articulate it sounds. But hearing that it's not boosted explains why it's so heavy, as no doubt a boost in front would have rolled off some low end and focused the mid's. And yet there is still attack and pick articulation for days. I guess it's a combo between the pickup's and (points at hand like Dino) for that album. For me the tone on that album is the only tone I've heard that stands toe to toe with the Burn my eyes guitar tone. Just absolutely menacing and relentless, especially on Pictures in the gold room. The intro riff (along with the tone), to that song is the exact sound of your impending doom.
Almighty Riff Master Rob, I have a non-riff related question: In the song "Pictures in the Gold Room" the chorus vocal harmony's sound eerily like the late great Layne Staley, but the year of the songs release and his passing are very close. If it wasn't Layne Staley, I'm curious how it came out sounding that way. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
Love what you're doing man. So kool. Man if there is one band I hate its disturbed. Ha, but glad you guys got to do that. In my opinion chimaira was that big, too bad the metal generation switched because I really thought you guys were like slayer coming up. Anyway, Respect.
We are pleased you enjoyed it my friend! Rob did an incredible job on the first record and he will also be working on our follow up! Which will start pre production for that very soon.
I was there and I really love seeing you guys. Mark made a big announcement that one guy came from Peru just to watch the show. Sad I didn’t get my favorite drummer to play but I understand he was sick. Still have my hoodie from that night. Jade was probably the best ending.
I actually paused Salvation to watch this 😂 been listening to the self titled CD in my car all week. I can only imagine what that Disturbed tour was like. Also so nice to hear you talk about the early days of Chimaira, driving separate cars to make tour dates and everything, can definitely relate to that! I also have to say that I tried everything in my power to get away from work and Christmas to drive the 12 or so hours to make that last Christmas show. Couldn’t do it, and I regret not being able to make it work. If there IS another show best believe I’ll be there front and center!
Hello Rob Everytime a new episode of everything thing you love seems totally thrilled, I can not wait to see it. we are both about the same age and were influenced by the same bands. I was on almost every chimaira tour you played in Germany. For me it is still a mystery why you have not made it much further. The albums of Chimaira are still such a big influence for me as far as my own music is concerned. I would be glad if I could only get a small piece of your cake. ....... my question would be how was it for you to accept that Chimaira did not go any further and what do you think about the young metal bands of today? do they even have a chance to live from the music? you and Mark have addressed the topic before but I would like to know more about what you think about the whole thing today. greeting. Martin Steel
Kudos Rob on such a great video! I love the creativity! Doing the different settings for each question was such a cool touch. The drum roll and that look at about the 8 min mark had me rolling. Keep up the great work! 🤘I have a question for the next episode. Who the hell still reads a newspaper on the shitter? 😂
No freaking way -> your favorite tour!!! I saw that show while I was on the road in Dallas Texas. I got a tattoo from Oliver Peck before he blew up that day. I still have the program tou guys autographed. By the way some of the best content has been made at "The Spot"
@@RobArnoldWorld I got some ink from Oliver that day, he was tattooing. At the time he was somewhat fresh off the breakup from Kat Von D, they were a couple. He blew up shortly thereafter landing as a judge on InkMaster and between shooting and travel it was impossible to get a session from him while I would travel back into Dallas (he owns Elm Street Tattoo). The reason you may remember the name is he is that guy with the mustache and the toothpick from the show InkMaster. Incidentally he comes through Cleveland pretty often and slings some ink out of Tattoo Faction over there in N. Olmstead.
Would you be interested in trying to make Chimaira a studio heavy, light live band? Meaning random singles/eps or albums, with small couple of week tours every so often and not always every year?
Hey Rob, I hope you see this... I’ve been a huge fan for a long time and love jamming your tunes. Would you consider making a lesson video for the Lazarus solo? I’ve got roughly half of it down just struggling on a few parts. Thank you again for all the awesome content!! 🤘🏻
thanks for all the interesting contents! Another format I would go mad about would be if you teach guitar playing from the base up, I'm a terrible player and I'd love to learn from the best 🤘
Cheers! 🤘I'm currently creating guitar lesson content and demonstrations exclusively for my patrons over at Patreon.com/RobArnoldWorld. Sign up if you'd like to get involved!🎸
Talking about your favorite tour that was a great show the first time seeing your band, Lacuna Coil, and disturbed at the Fillmore in Denver. Super show! Question: in the Atreyu song Nothing will ever change could you show the rhythm cords are played? love the channel keep rockin, were behind you!
Considering what you said about how different it is touring arenas, did you ever consider being a full time guitar tech to continue touring and work for arena-level bands after the Chimaira split? I strive for the same goals as a freelance tour manager/merch manager and hearing you talk about all the nice amenities these bigger tours have to offer gets me excited for the future. Thanks for another great video. Your channel is inspiring me to grow my own channel and do more videos in this style. Keep 'em coming!
Right on! And good luck to you! Me being a tech? I guess the thought has crossed my mind. But the right situation would have to come about, and would have to fall into my lap. And since that's not the way it works in the real world, my guess is that it'll probably never happen. 🤘
Man I really wish I could've been there at that Xmas show. It Fkn sold out too fast but THAT was expected....Fkn CHIMAIRA! 🙏Thank u as always Rob for letting us fans into ur world. ✋👈 dont ask me how I play that sick riff 😂🤣😂😂🤣
Hey rob, long time fan. Ever since pass out of existence came out. I was just wondering if you would ever release a full length guitar tab book for the self titled album ??? All i can say about that album is ..... riffs baby riffs 😉🤘🏻
Hey rob, question for your q&a. There's a scene in the dehumanizing process where you guys are waiting for Ricky to show up for the pre show huddle. You looked PISSED! Then you get into a punching match with Jim. Can you talk a little about what you were thinking or feeling at the time? We're you indeed mad or was it the persona taking over?
Hey Rob, what do you think about bands who’s first albums are subjectively “heavier” which progress into more mainstream? Obviously experimentation is inevitable, but bands get a lot of flak for it and don’t seem to have the desire to “return to their roots” so to speak. Do you think this is a good idea to regain lost loyalty? As always, keep kicking ass! Loc
Rob! You are much thinner than in the past. Are You eating enough? And good things? I can give You great italian food! *Joke* Do You wnat to talk about the making of the Chimaira's videoclip? Funfacts? I remember something about fire in Down Again...
Glad to finally know where the “stick a knife in your enemy” riff ended up, I always wondered and never picked it out of Comatose before. Has “stays the same” ever been released as a bonus track on anything? I’d love to hear the whole song, cheers my friend!
Rob Arnold Stays the Same is on iTunes on a deluxe edition of the Impossibility album. I have the actual deluxe edition on CD (in regular rotation in my car I might add) and it’s not on there so I’m not sure how iTunes has it on there.
Is that an evertune I see on that guitar at the end? What are your thoughts on it and how to do you set yours up? Also have a couple of guitars with Evertune and loving it so far. Keep the videos coming Rob, big fan of your riffs and sound
I was SO excited when I heard about the Chimaira Xmas reunion show, but then I looked up plane ticket prices from Europe and the idea of going to the show was quickly shot down lol. It was still fantastic news, just because it meant that you guys got over whatever personal beef caused the band to fall apart. Still, damn shame Andols couldn't make it. I really want to hear the stuff you recorded with him for that solo album of yours, he's still one of my favorite metal drummers just like you're still one my favorite metal guitarists. Rock on mate
@@RobArnoldWorld Hey so, you probaly take all your questions for the vids from Instagram or whatever, but if you could talk a bit about the writing and recording processes behind the two big Chimaira instrumentals (Implements and Heart of it All, although I bet your take on Samsara from The Age of Hell would be interesting too) in the next video that would be awesome! I like to think of these songs as sort of Chimaira's Orion and Call of Ktulu :D
Rob - What was the motivation behind transitioning from using 7 strings in drop A, to 6 strings in drop C? Most bands tune DOWN as their career progresses but you guys did the complete opposite. And on another guitar-related note, how come you settled on a 24.75" scale for your ESP signature model, even though you'd been using 25.5" production models beforehand? Cheers!
Odd question but, what is the square footage of your studio? I could be building a new one and making plans. Was just curious ! Nice work on the different locations! Creative and cool !
You prompted me to break out the tape measure! I've got roughly 1300 sq feet. And that's divided amongst the control room, the live room, the lounge, that bathroom/kitchen, and storage. 🤘
I miss Chimaira so much, never got to see you live. If things ever kick off again, get Chimaira to Ireland. Got drum lessons from Andols online and it was so cool to see how much detail he put into it, he really cared about answering all your questions as best as possible! Lots of love bro!

Music as a Weapon Tour was my first time seeing Chimaira. 4 friends packed in a truck and drove 5 hours. Totally worth it!
That reunion show was killer. I barely had a voice when I left that night. If there's any more shows, I know I'll be there.
That Christmas show reunion had the most insane mosh pits I've ever seen!!! That shit never stopped even when mark was just talking

I really appreciate the added insight you add to these. I was up front at the Pound SF show you mentioned. Also there when you played outside and filmed for Pure Hatred. Great times.
That's right! Awesome! 🤘
Mark is definitely influenced by the late great Layne Staley! 🤘
Rob Arnold Oh most definitely! You can hear it in Down Again as well.
Love what you're doing man. So kool. Man if there is one band I hate its disturbed. Ha, but glad you guys got to do that. In my opinion chimaira was that big, too bad the metal generation switched because I really thought you guys were like slayer coming up. Anyway, Respect.
Sup dude, can you talk about working with Burial at Sea? Love that record! Cheers from Australia
I edited and mixed their record, and had a great time working on it! Great dudes! Looking forward to starting on their next album soon!🤘
We are pleased you enjoyed it my friend! Rob did an incredible job on the first record and he will also be working on our follow up! Which will start pre production for that very soon.
@@micksawyer1112 Fuck yeah! Keep it up dudes!
@@RobArnoldWorld Sweet! Another project you got going that i am looking forward to! 🤘
I was there and I really love seeing you guys. Mark made a big announcement that one guy came from Peru just to watch the show. Sad I didn’t get my favorite drummer to play but I understand he was sick. Still have my hoodie from that night. Jade was probably the best ending.
Another masterpiece 🤘🤘🤘Thank you Rob🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Number 1 first time ever I came to the show with my wife from Wisconsin great stuff Rob thank you again
Answering questions on the toilet, like a boss!

THANK YOU!!! Thanks for answering my question!
👊
From Syracuse, NY \m/. Wish I could caught yah!
"Will we do it again?" "Probably"
Looking forward to it from fort wayne Indiana!
Love these videos :)
That disturbed tour was amazing. It was my first concert and I'll never forget it. They crushed it!
Keep them coming Rob!! Love everything you do bud.
LOL as long as hagar isnt using that toilet!
👊
Definitely takes some balls to volunteer going on tour with zero days notice haha.
Fuck yea
Great riff idea to teach at the end \m/
You inspired it! 😉
Another amazing up and coming black metal band from Cleveland.
Funeral of God
dude send a link, I can't find those guys.. want to give it a listen ;)

Hahahaha! 🤣 I had to ask my wife if she knew where I could BUY a newspaper! haha it was my first time!
@@RobArnoldWorld Seriously considering how sanitary the posters I bought from you are after that segment. :D
No freaking way -> your favorite tour!!! I saw that show while I was on the road in Dallas Texas. I got a tattoo from Oliver Peck before he blew up that day.
I still have the program tou guys autographed.
By the way some of the best content has been made at "The Spot"
Awesome! I remember that name... Oliver Peck. what do you mean "before he blew up that day"?
Sounds good, but it's easier said then done! 🤘
Hey Rob, I hope you see this... I’ve been a huge fan for a long time and love jamming your tunes. Would you consider making a lesson video for the Lazarus solo? I’ve got roughly half of it down just struggling on a few parts. Thank you again for all the awesome content!! 🤘🏻
Right on Daniel! I'll consider it!🤘
thanks for all the interesting contents!
Right on man! But sorry, I don't know any Atreyu stuff
@@RobArnoldWorld I completely understand. Thanks, Rob!
Na sorry man, I doubt there will be any more Chimaira tab books unfortunately.
Loc
Is that an Evertune bridge at the end there? Looks pretty chunky for a fixed bridge/floyd.
It is! It's my ESP ltd MH-1000ET!🎸
Rob! You are much thinner than in the past. Are You eating enough? And good things? I can give You great italian food! *Joke*
Do You wnat to talk about the making of the Chimaira's videoclip?
No it has not. 🤘
Yeah! Love the Evertune on my ESP MH-1000ET. For setup, I just follow the great videos on the Evertune website. Easy Peazy... Drop C-zy
Working on it man! The more patrons I can get to come on board to help out, the sooner we can all enjoy it! 🤘
Do you do all the video editing yourself?
Yessir- entire operation is currently a one man show. 🎸
Wow ! Thanks for checking that out for me !
If there is another reunion show I think Tokar needs to be an opening band.
🤣 You must be "from the neighborhood".
Never played but Im friends with "Elton" and remembered when Tokar played a few doors down at RRCS.
I miss Chimaira so much, never got to see you live. If things ever kick off again, get Chimaira to Ireland. Got drum lessons from Andols online and it was so cool to see how much detail he put into it, he really cared about answering all your questions as best as possible! Lots of love bro!
Just donated to your patreon page! \m/
My man! 🙏
Hey . Is "Severd" in drop A on a 7-string?
The album version is, yes. 🎸
@@RobArnoldWorld Thank you. in this case i will do a cover of Severed. Hope you won't mind :)
