    E - I am at Jim McLean’s in Miami for a golf camp and I just couldn’t time up the elusive left hand release (which is an important part of their teaching) without casting and cutting across the ball. This video was pure gold. I had the hanger aid for years and never used it but when I pulled it out and followed you guys - a legitimate EUREKA moment. You are really good and your guests always bring relevant concepts. As always thanks for your generosity.

    I have the quickest question among all comments with "Quick Questions". Back in my Mini tour days, I was known as THE Frisky Flounder of South Mississippi. The nickname was due to the noise my ball made at impact sounding like a dead Flounder was on the ball. Me personally, I think it sounded more like a fan at a football game clapping with a thick pair of winter gloves on. ANYWAY, my "quick question" or I guess this is more of a statement. I've been hearing some water cooler talk amongst tour members and we've got a real problem with your throwing our secrets out for public consumption... On a more serious note, keep up the good work! You are fantastic with communicating advanced/ dynamic bio-mechanics swing theory into easily digestible concepts and feels . Also, You're a content monster and i'm here for it!

    Love the tip but have a question and an observation that worked for me. Instead of adding an extra "move" to your swing by the "twist". Why not just slightly close the clubface at address by either a stronger grip or as a preshot routine by bringing the club back to about belt high then loosen your grip, slightly twist the face closed and tighten your grip. Instead of twisting your wrist.

      That's what I do, works best for me. Beautiful flight and distance and straight. I can't hit it properly if I don't close my club at address with a neutral- strong grip. I have to see where my ball will hit at impact, my thought process is wherever I place my ball at address is where my club will hit it so I don't want to have to twist my wrist or handle.🤷‍♀️

    Eric, you speak of bowing the wrist after you begin bringing the club down, but I have trouble doing that. However, I have no trouble bowing my left wrist as I get to the top of my backswing. I am guessing it is OK to do that but wanted to make sure. What would you say?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 года назад

      I would say that is OK so long as it STAYS flat in transition
      Usually you would see good strikers have left wrist get to flat roughly around left arm parallel in the backswing then a bit more in transition
      of course this depends on their grip/swing style

    Great vid. Can't wait to get to the range as I purchased the Watson swing aid as well (used your discount code). I saw your answer down below for driver - how about fairway woods - same as irons or "little less" like you stated in comments about driver? Thanks and appreciate the vids...

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 года назад +1

      Love it, Duane!
      Yeah thats a good question.
      I would say the "simple" answer is "a bit less"
      It does depend some on your speed....more speed can have more shaft lean and less loft.
      Less speed needs less shaft lean and a bit more loft (to get it high enough to carry far enough)
      Now....IF you throw way too much and especially if face is too open you would need to feel this with ALL clubs!

      Yes!
      Closing the face more earlier should encourage your brain to do a lot of the other good stuff we want to NOT hook it....

    I understand this idea, but can you explain then why, especially with driver, we see people like Rory who get to shaft parallel to the ground post impact and the butt of the club is pointed at the down the line camera? In that case, the club head has overtaken the hands and there is a "roll". Perhaps its just camera angles or something, but when i see the pros do those types of things it makes me believe i need to roll more and get to the post impact shaft parallel shaking hands with the person in front of me, which feels like a roll.

    There's an easier solution to obtain this desired result: preset the lead wrist at address. A 'weak' grip leads to a flatter wrist. Try it. You don't have to do any twisting at all, simply swing away. A challenge with trying to adopt a twisting method is that you need to also add more rotation than you are accustomed to in order to match it up, otherwise you'll hit big hooks.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 года назад +4

      Hey Matt!
      Of course that is one option!
      Unfortunately after 14 years of coaching and tens of thousands of golf swings later I have learned it simply isn't that easy.
      Some people elite players play great with a weak grip/flexed wrist combo....
      But I have seen A LOT with weaker grip struggle from there.
      Both options are viable!

      If its more open you need more arm rotation to close, if its more closed then you need less.
      I'm just on the less closed side so I have some more roll.

It’s not easy to do and you need some real strength to do that as well as the ROM in ur wrist. I can’t budge the club to bow it unless my left is neutral or even in a more weak starting position. I actually use coaches tip n use my right hand at the top to help my girly man left wrist get there. But it’s also not a thing you can just change overnight and need to work it In slowly because it’ll cause my dominant right hand to do too much and then I’m chicken wing city. I am a big fan of Eric's . But this video lacked a lot of clarity. Way to confusing. Pushing the Hanger sales a bit too much IMO.

    Don't you get the same thing if you just focus on swinging the handle instead of the clubhead

    I thought i will see how to release the club with the face closed, but i did not. you talk about 12 min how to close the face and at the end you swing without a release. but every good player has a release. so show me a release while haveing a bowed lead wrist.

    Very messy lesson here.
    Referencing face condition to shaft at times, then to path at times and mixing wrist flexion/extension with "twisting", and then only covering one shot shape , a push draw....etc.
    The assumption that all are open at the top and must begin closing is just wrong....
    I've been studying the golf swing for 45 years and taught for 35 years and I had a hard time following it . And I can imagine developing golfers either are confused or think they understand when they actually don't.
    There are multiple concepts and options here that need to be teased out and explored. Love you Eric, but....

    Here is the main problem with golf lessons online.The title here " How to release the golf club", ok great but like 99% of vids on here spend 99% of the time showing you what not to do ,rather than showing the actual lesson. Too much bad data,can get confusing ,lets get to the crux of why I clicked on a Vid. Just my opinion.
