Bought one from my mechanic buddy in 2020 and love it. Every time I bring it to him for work he keeps telling me how much he misses it hah. Had a bit of a leak in the bed but some silicone grease on the rubber tonneau cover seals made it all water tight. All of the truck bed water gutters were missing on mine so I replaced them all. Plan to camp it in this weekend with the mid gate down and a foam mattress laid out. Hoping it will be easier than using a tent.
Nice review. My dad gave me his old 2002 Avalanche Z66 earlier this year that was stolen and recovered only to find that it had drug residue in it, so the insurance totalled it. just bought an 03 Z71 couple days ago and I am happier every day as i get to know this thing. has some weird electrical problems but its 20 years old so its to be expected
Bought an 07 Avalanche LTZ roughly 4 years ago. 110,000 miles one owner fully loaded all service history as well as service receipts etc. Paid 13,500.00 for it. Even came with the receipt from when it was purchased from the dealership brand new. P/O payed 65,000 an change for it. It's regularly driven from Bristol TN to Myrtle Beach SC & back 85-100mph the entire way just cruising with all our luggage in the back. Best out of town rig you could possibly get. Out of the four years that I have owned mine all I have had to do to it is normal wear an tear stuff. Oil changes, Brakes, Alignment etc. Other then that shes driven daily and is honestly the most reliable thing I have ever owned. Mind you i'm 33 & disabled & I count on this thing daily to do what I need an it never fails me. I disabled the AOD on mine because I didn't like it other then that haven't changed a thing. I get roughly 15-17mpg on the interstate in constant V8 mode & that's on heavy 22" Wheels. It can actually tow an haul pretty hefty loads as well. Thing goes like a champ in the mud an snow with the G80 Locker in the back. All in all i'd glady buy another, mines now setting right at 200,000 an still going strong!
Great find!! It’s always worth the extra couple dollars for a one owner well taken care of vehicle. It’s an awesome feeling having such a low dollar vehicle that’s that reliable.
@@garfunkelsgarage2509 Exactly not only that but trying to survive in today's prices isn't an option. Got to make do with whatever you have & 800.00 a month truck payment isn't an option, thats money to go toward groceries an other stuff that one absolutely needs to have to survive.
@@Paradox-Studios even if you have the money it can be spent somewhere else. I sold my $800 a month truck and purchased two rental properties with that money.
Looking at an 07 Ltz right now that is at 180k for about 6500? Think it is worth it? It shifting from the 8 to 4 cylinder freaks me out a bit. I figure it will need a transmission soon. Any rough ball park idea what that may cost? I have never had to deal with a bad transmission before.
Nice Avalanche. I always love the GMT800 platform. Im a Suburban Z71 owner and adore it. Highly underrated IMO. Debating on new 5.3 or 6.0 when its time. Current 5.3L has 350k+ I plan on doing some long haul towing with it unless i get a cateye (will convert to round eye) duramax first. Really would love a 2500 Suburban for a duramax swap.
I had an 09 LT2 sold it last year with only 153k km I miss it dearly, now I got an 04 z71 with 345k km and she drives like a dream not as refined as the 09 I had but still drives great I love it! Plus I got a good deal on it considering the shit show market for used vehicles
I have a z71 2002 avalanche. Love the truck but have has a lot of electrical problems with door locks and electrical draw someplace. Only 100k on it. Was 1700 dollars to fix locks and 1 1/2 yrs later having same problem. Hopefully get it fixed as it is first yr build. Great video thanks
Check and clean your grounds, Below drivers door on frame are 2 important ones. I cleaned mine added some dielectric grease and all power options work great now.
Just picked up an 06. WITH PANASONIC DVD PLAYER!! All the exact reasons you talked about in this. I need to haul 1/2 of my kids most of the time and I just no longer want to haul stuff in my Escalade. $2450 146K. Did 300+ round trip to the folks today. Still got over 1/2 a tank of fuel. Dont feel bad. In 2003 I bought an 87 4Runner for 1700. I sold it 06 for 1700. They sell for 17000 now. :(
I just got my license and really don't want to buy a traditional car most folks are buying, a 5 series bmw, volkswagen passat or an audi a6. For some reason i've been in love with trucks all my life and been looking at Avalanches for ages. Would it be idiotic to own this car as my daily driver? Speaking of daily driving, I don't even drive that much because most of the stuff I need is probably a mile from my house but I just want a car. As far as regular service fees goes for a car, would owning this car be on the median level like most cars or doing regular services for a 2002 Avalance be wayyy higher compared to your usual car? Where I live (Europe), most US trucks/SUV's even have an installed LPG system which makes the mpg super cheap.
Unfortunately I’m not the guy who can answer that question as I’ve only experienced Europe in layovers to other continents. Growing up in Florida all I drove as a daily was trucks until this year.
I got my 07 last year with 140k. It came lifted and overall was in great shape. Interior was amazing, my only complaint was the speakers. The transmission did go out a couple months after having it (was slipping between 3rd and 4th). I was experiencing electrical problems which I'm still trying to sort through, but other than that, I love this truck. Paid 15k for it on a trade in.
That’s a good low mileage truck, should be bullet proof now with a new trans. As far as speakers go, there might be a good Memorial Day sale coming up. Check crutchfield for what speakers work then look them up on Amazon. Might be a good time to add a nice apple car play Headunit as well.

Just a Few Questions: What is the highway MPG? Does this truck have trailer brakes? Is the tonneau cover watertight enough that I could sleep in it while camping (putting into consideration that the glass is still attached to the truck and the midgate is put down)?
Can people chime in on rear visibility? I have a 13 f150 that I’m thinking of downsizing from. From what I’ve read it seems like the back window really isn’t that bad and that most of the visibility problems are shared with other trucks

I was thinking about selling mine but I was just talked out of it. Mines still completely stock but I’m thinking about adding some type of stereo and maybe a camera
They are trucks. Just bc its a one body vehicle and the cab isnt separate from the bed doesn't mean it's not a truck. The new chevy silverado ev is a one body vehicle and it's a truck too. Or they can be called a SUT (Sport Utility Truck).
Any suggestions on transmission for a 2005 4 x 4 avalanche I think that’s about the only other option not discussed in this video but still you did an awesome job with it I learned something new I’ve had mine about 8 months had no clue about the mirrors folding which is awesome because these are big trucks as it is if yours isn’t four-wheel-drive man you’re missing out they do surprisingly well off road but thanks for the video

I picked my 2005 a month ago. It has a few minor issues but the parts aren't expensive and they're readily available. Love how the bed opens into the cab! Actually I love everything about the truck lol
Hope the trip went well!

I have a 2004 z66 avalanche 115k miles best thing ever
Wow that’s such low mileage, I’m very jelly. Mine has double that 😢
Bought an 07 Avalanche LTZ roughly 4 years ago.

I have one since 2002. Love it!!

I got my 07 last year with 140k. It came lifted and overall was in great shape. Interior was amazing, my only complaint was the speakers.
