  • Rince, ceol agus scéalaíocht le daltaí Scoil Náisiúnta Cholmcille, An Tulach, i nGaeltacht Chonamara.
Pupils from Scoil Náisiúnta Cholmcille, An Tulach in the Connemara Gaeltacht dance Briseadh na Carraige (The Siege of Carrick) in the school yard and children from the Naíonáin (Junior and Senior Infants) sing ‘Bhí Nead Ag Nuala’.
Built in 1961 this small and vibrant school has over one hundred pupils today, and is located in a particularly scenic part of County Galway according to principal Séamus Ó Conghaile,
Suite in áit fíoráláinn idir sléibhte agus cósta.
The local hall and parish church of Saint Colmcille in Indreabhán were completed in 1965. Saint Colmcille’s Church has the distinction of being the first church in Ireland constructed in line with the philosophy of the Second Vatican Council, enabling the priest to face the congregation when celebrating the Mass.
The Donegal born saint is associated with this part of the Connemara Gaeltacht thanks to his travels in the area.
Cóilín tells the story of how the rock that he, his classmates and presenter Máirtín Davy are sitting on is according to local lore, the petrified boat of Colmcille who landed here following a dispute with Saint Enda whose monastery was on Inis Mór,
Troid bheag idir é fhéin agus Naomh Éanna le chéile.
And Bernadette Ní Scanláin and Dearbhla Ní Chúanaigh show off their musical talents, with a tune on the tin whistle and a verse of a sean-nós song.
This episode of ‘Ar Sgoil’ (Ar Scoil) was broadcast on 4 May 1987. The presenter is Máirtín Davy Ó Coisdealbha.
‘Ar Sgoil’ was a series about national schools in Connemara. Presented by Raidió na Gaeltachta broadcaster and producer Máirtín Davy Ó Coisdealbha it went out on Monday afternoons during the ‘Dempsey’s Den’ slot on RTÉ 1.

It’s a shame, Obese children are hilarious looking when they dance.
