    I love all substyles within 'old school' egl, including mini hats because they're smol and useless, serving literally no function except to be odd and extra, which I find absolutely charming hehe.

    I love that gothic lolita brands were more willing to experiment with different cuts! I feel like a lot of the sweet designs don't take any risks on cuts and focus on different prints.

    You gotta remember everything in the 2003 GLB fell under the lolita fashion umbrella. There was no such thing as “it’s not lolita cuz it’s missing that cupcake/bell silhouette”. That was a rule added much later that almost seems to come from the west? Old school gothic (not just dark color sweet) had a very different, unique silhouette and they’re still very much lolita. You can’t take the past and claim it’s not lolita because the term has changed.
    Recently almost bought a meta piece that came in what we all consider a universal lolita cut and one of those long “not lolita it’s aristocratic” cut. That’s simply how the fashion used to look. It’s kinda sad it’s less unique and varied now.

      Yes! Thanks for this comment, I feel like current communities made lolita almost boring. And the fabric quality dropped too :( Maybe it's my oldschool-leaning heart, but I kinda hate what this fashion has become, we need more creativity :(

    what I find so fascinating about old gothic lolita specifically is that is seems to be more inspired by goth fashion of the time instead of lolita. i like that difference. in my opinion, some lolita styles can be so repetitive, and I know that's mostly because of the fact that lolita has so many rules, but still, it can be very refreshing to see old gothic lolita that wants its customers to be unique.

    Does anyone think that maybe the ending story by Mana-sama is dedicated to Kami?
    I know that Kami passing away took a huge toll on Mana and he has a few songs that are in memory of Kami.
    The last story was so sad, and instantly it just made me think of Kami.

    Hello there,
    So far my daughter and I love classic; and within classic I find you can easily give it a sweet twist or play up the gothic. I think that’s why I prefer classic, just because it’s more subtle and can be diverse because of its subtlety. We love you Lor!

    Lor, I actually identify as a vintage girl, specifically leaning into 1947-1955. Your videos are wonderful to watch, because I love learning about different subcultures and styles, and truthfully I feel like there are a lot of details in common between vintage styling and lolita. It seems like you need to do a video on classic lolita, seeing as nobody seems to know what it is! Research time!

I love Ouji and I started collecting pieces finally about a year ago hopefully I’ll get a lot on my birthday! My girlfriend is gothic lolita mix with some sweet and classic together but she likes all substyles of lolita that she likes to use cybergoth as well , and mix with goth and sweet and classic it depends but she loves being able to express herself with it and also dancing in industrial with her lolita coords really do make it more pop .... also the way Lor describe the glb with the gothic lolita fashions that has evolved from really has helped me understand more about lolita fashion and respecting it.

    Kind of on a tangent here but here we are! 5 or so years ago I was a sweet lolita- but now here I am, a gothic ouji, slowly having to learn entirely new sides of the style I thought I knew! It’s taking forever to figure things out, but I feel so much more myself (I also came out as nonbinary, and the gender euphoria of looking like a fancy little prince is IMMENSE for me) and I managed to get hold of one of the iconic Atelier Boz Roland coats recently and I cannot WAIT to coord it. That and my one Moitie item are part of my soul now

    I'm kind of a mix between Aristo, Gothic and Classic lolitas! I like the more streamlined, historical looks as opposed to the bright, colorful patterns, but the pastels in Sweet are really pretty to me, too, so I've been kind of eyeing some outfits. And Hime's over the top chifon and frills and ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING is just GORGEOUS!

  • @gumiworms1328
    @gumiworms1328 Год назад +1

    It’s funny you say that you can’t really see any of the details on the gothic dresses because that’s how I feel about a lot of sweet prints! If you have a dress that’s entirely pastels, it becomes hard to actually see the details in the print because everything is so light and there’s no contrast to make certain elements stand out. It just ends up looking like one big blur and becomes visually uninteresting to me. But you’re right, the details on gothic dresses are also hard to see everything is black. I guess classic is the true winner here lol

    I love when showa era art was put on gothic lolita bible covers!!! That macoto takahashi cover is stunning, theyre one of my favourite artists! Some favourite characters from riyoko ikeda series popped up on the glb covers too. Ever since ive dug deeper into showa manga and fashion its been super apparent that a lot of us lolitas had kind of a missing link in that showa shojo art from the 60s and 70s was SO pivotal to lolita development (anime and pop culture too tbh). Even just looking at some takahashi pieces you can see everything from the silhouette to the hair, accessories, etc. all intact back then! The trends back then especially in japan leaned towards really specific time periods and themes of royalty and western motifs, mixed with preexisting styles of the time. Its no wonder the glb directly used classic images from these artists tbh, but its easily missed by most overseas lolitas unless you fall headfirst into showa nerd mode like me lol but its good to know! And excellent for fashion inspiration and styling for obvious reasons
    Im a bit tired rn so i couldn't give a comprehensive summary but i highly encourage more lolitas to look into earlier showa retro manga art!! Its not talled about nearly enough

    • @meltyholic
      @meltyholic Год назад

      It's also got me super invested in collecting showa accessories and showa inspired print clothes (there's very few I just happened to get lucky with a definitely someone's ripped pinterest board showa manga and anime print mesh top and jacket) for interesting coords, as well as modern showa type indie like Lutra Jump and vintage shirts and such. As soon as I'm well enough to wear Lolita again I have so many coords planned, helps that I love a lot of dresses in that classic showa red colour, like meta dress room, meta candy shower (so 80s!!!!) and now wonder story ...love me a good red Lolita dress of any style

    I always looked for GLB when I got interested in the fashion and it was really hard to find anything :c. At least in my country there wasn't almost any info on lolita :c. I own some sweet lolita dresses but they tend to be more toned down (sunflowers, little berries, black with golden stars), 2 classic lolita dresses bc I absolutely love chocolate brown and ivory tones, 1 sailor, and one qi lolita dress. It's a bit more complicated to coordinate them and i tend to cood them in more casual ways (leaning more to otome) but I love having that versatility :') the only OTT motifs i wouldn't mind wearing are bunnies bc bunnies are adorable and i love them ☺️. Something I'd love to see in lolita are more jewel tones being used (like forest/emerald green) or tones like gray & brown, I thing it'd be stunning :').

    I’m too new to Lolita to be able to say I have an established style yet, but the pieces I like and have bought so far are gothic with a small mix of sweet. I bought that Pumpkin Cat dress that looks like it has ‘how to train your dragon’ dragons all over it, which is both cute but still dark colored. That’s the kind of sweet I like ❤️
    But thank you so much for inspiring me to get into Lolita fashion, I’ve always liked it but I’ve always felt too old/not cute enough. I wasn’t confident enough when I was younger, and knew I wouldn’t be able to stand up to the criticism I would get from my family and jerkwads in college. Now I’m older, married, and don’t gaf >_< but I still needed the inspiration and push. Thank you Lor!

    I thought I was classic and then just ended up collecting other substyles...lol. So I feel like Im ok but not a master in any substyles XD
    The way I "optimize" my wardrobe is with this venn diagram - Sweet and gothic are harder to coord (but not impossible) but sweet and gothic pieces can coord with a classic piece easier.
    Also my color choices are fairly basic (red, black, white/cream, browns) so I can coord with not a lot of trouble. However, my choices on sweet go out of range sometimes so I decided to make it more of a capsule wardrobe.
    Also, basic cute white/cream blouses are even more of a must have if you want to wear all styles lol. And to add, I got these split blouses with detable drapey sleeves. They work with my classic and sweet dresses and of you wanna be spicy, you can tie different colors together to make a color block blouse. Versatile items like these are👌
    Not sure if this is helpful but I thought I'd share how I manage my mess haha!

    • @crystal8160
      @crystal8160 3 года назад +1

      I was thinking about your question and while I would like to say yes ask yourself this; can you be considered a part of any other fashion if you only collect it vs wearing it. Unfortunately my only examples would be historical fashions or some rather extreme examples that are not meant to be offensive but might come across that way. For example, drag fashion or a geisha. The answer to both of those would be no because the come with a culture, history, and a community. Where only having the articles of clothing but not wearing them means you appreciate the style but that isn't the same thing as being a part of a fashion. However collection of a particular fashion that could honestly be just as worthy to be called a piece of art as a kimono isn't a bad thing. In many ways it makes you a conservator of a living style of art.
