Firearms weren't a major advantage during the 15th/16th century, except the cannon. The Malians were able to defeat the Portuguese military in naval combat while merely utilising bows and arrows by themselves. Firearms really weren't really a considerable advantage during this era.
Yes, they were a good ranged weapon, but the reloading times took too long. You're certainly not going to mow down to a whole army with them matchlocks. Firearms really were the game-changer with the Gatling gun's invention during the civil war and the bolt action rifle. The Songhai Empire lost due to cowardice caused by the gunshots' psychological effects, which lowered the soldiers' morale.

Mai Idris Alooma turned down Askiya Dawūd request, instead he opted to back Mulay Ahmad Al Mansūr as the “rightful ruler of the moors”. Shortly after the fall of Great Songhai the first slaves were taken to the Americas, culminating in Moroccan occupation of Timbuktu and Gao for centuries, but although Pasha Judar was met with heavy resistance from Tuareg, and Fulbe tribes it was said that whenever he came across a non combatant he treated them with respect and dignity. First they invaded the salt mines of Teghazza then onto the plains of Tondibi where the Moroccan army of nearly 2000 marksmen faced off with Askiya Dawūd’s army of 60-70,000 Calvary where they were no match against the musketeers and canons, April through August of 1591 was a truly sad time for our people, but we will rise again, of that I have no doubt. ✊🏿

@Reezy37 Saadis invested their riches into this expedition to control the goldmines located in that region. The influx of gold would have financed the first african-moroccan expedition in the new world to establish muslim colonies in the africa with the help of england. The saadi sultan also negiotated with the English queen for a reconquest of the iberian kingdoms. If they wouldnt have failed the spanish and portuguese would never invade some parts of africa and there would be no european colonies in africa.
(In 1600 Al-Mansur sent his Secretary Abd el-Ouahed ben Messaoud as ambassador to Elizabeth's court to negotiate a military alliance to invade Spain. In his letter to the Queen he even suggested a second option to invade Spanish colonies in the New World and expressed a desire for Morocco to colonize those territories if they were victorious.)
When Elizabeth heard that the saadis had difficulty pushing south to the region where the major goldmines were located, she reconsidered an alliance and postponed these ideas. When Almanzor died,a succession crisis ensued which would plunge the kingdom into brutal civil war.

why don't you admit that songhai didn't last against moroccan invasion .
the invasion lasted for months, and in the last ,they gained control over the majority of songhai territories , including both gao and timbukto which were the only major cities.
after the end of the saadis dynasty in morocco , another dynasty will arose from south morocco to rule.
this dynasty is the current ruling dynasty of morocco now , and in their beginning they also conquered what have remained from songhai, to what is known today as Mauritania, mali, chad and most western african countries.

But they never stay in these west African countries because it was to far from Morocco and different kingdoms were fighting back from all sides so Morocco decide to leave with stolen books and Scholars.

They gained control of Gao Timbuktu and djenne. Didn't control anywhere else. The whole point of the attack was to gain gold. Did they gain the gold? No, did they strain their own resources to make the attack and govern Gao Timbuktu and djenne? Yes. It's not really the win you guys think it is lmao

Thank I always get that morrocains I don't how who's teaching them this part of history they all think it was very easy victory on the songhai and as soon they arrived they the songhai army barely fought back they lay there and let the morrocains walk allover them .but in reality what they're not teaching them in Morocco it's that their invasion and conquest of the songhai was failure.
