The post extending past the end of the barn roof was used to assist in loading hay into the "attic" of the barn. Some might use it for a hitch point for a rope and pulley system. I know we just used ours for helping keep the extension ladder we used to span the distance stable as we walked up it.
Hey Brian, The beam coming out of the barn usually has a pulley attached so that you can hoist heavy objects or hay into the loft more easily. You should be able to see a door just there that opens into the loft. I owned a barn, and it made life so much easier with that because you didn't lose any floorspace having a giant hole to bring stuff up with. Besides, most barns don't have staircases, so carrying something heavy up a ladder is just downright dangerous.😂 Cheers bud!
I saw the pulley used at the hay mow or upper half of the barn during my youth. Usually that was used with a set of forks to grab a bunch of loose hay from the wagon that we stomped the hay down on barefoot. Not much fun with all the bull thistles they had in the field.

So the the way the trains work Brian is that after the train with carts goes by you have a possibility of a second train passing through with one of the progressives... It's a five line game on higher denominations.

It is for a hoist to raise and lower things to the top of the barn, normally bales of hay. Most farmers now have a conveyor for more efficiency.
Its an arm with a block & tackle on it to raise things up into the loft...hay bales usually.

On the barn it’s a rope and pully to lift hay bales onto the upper platform. It’s not a knife but a support beam. 😍
