  • In this video, I try to repair my 20 year old rotary mower so we don't get overrun by the grass and weeds. One of the mower blades broke off and I have a hard time finding parts for it as well as removing the old, worn parts.
It may be time to order a new one!

With the castle nut loose, it will either damage the shaft or take the bearings out.

My 20 ton manual press from horror fright could straighten that plate out. I use it primarily for bearings but it's useful for anything you need to smash, squash, or squeeze. It's almost 20 years old and has earned it's keep several times over. I think that mower was well worth the money and time to repair.

Only and ALWAYS worth it if it costs less to fix than to buy new. That's how I roll, every single day. And buy used whenever possible. Auctions are a good way to acquire things you need from people who do not need them anymore. And they're fun too!

2 concrete slabs and a 20 lb. hammer.
You could bend it enough to fix that racket.

The job got done and you didn't have to buy a new one! You might be able to take that disc off and set it on two blocks. Then get drive the tractor up on it to see ifyou could bend it back a little.

I’d recommend tightening that nut back up so you don’t tear up the spines coming off the gear box or in the disk OR worse the cotter pin wears into and the nut comes off and you have a disk and blade going somewhere.

Call d&n in Mount Orab, Ohio They have all the parts you need for them in the future.

That castle nut is made to tighten to a certain torgue and than the pin. Leaving it loose will ruin the spline on the shaft and you will be buying a new mower sooner than later...

Had the same thing happen with my skid steer brush hog- I cut a hole in the body of the hog to get a socket on the nuts( couldn’t get the stupid disc off the shaft)
    Great job on yours though

I have the same mower I bought used with the tractor. Mine looks even worse, had to cut the skit a bit because it was all mangled up.

I don't think the spark is a great thing, just be careful working on very dry grass! 😅 However the dance did help me feel a little better about the sparks

Definitely crossed my mind. Going to be a while before we have any dry grass however!

All together was about $140. Two different suppliers Agri Supply and Agri Store

Why can’t you just grind the bolt down enough for clearance?

Could u replace those blades with chains and make a flail?

    • @RedToolHouse
      @RedToolHouse  Месяц назад

Yes. That would be an option as well. I do take out some bigger woody material so I am not sure how chains would handle that.
