One of his biggest regrets was hiring Bob Eaton from General Motors to succeed him at Chrysler vs giving it to Bob Lutz. It was the beginning of the end of Chrysler.
P51 was not a fighter jet, I believe the problem with the pinto was bolts piercing the tank, and I don't think Jeep was "very" profitable when they were purchased by Chrysler. A good video well done.
40 years ago, Lee Iacocca brought the minivan to America. Lee Iacocca though the minivan would replace the station wagon. But unfortunately crossover/SUVs have become more popular then minivans. The minivan became Chrysler's cash cow which helped saved Chrysler from bankruptcy
Cool video! Iacocca was one of the last great car titans, it’s a shame after he left Chrysler was a steady decline. I wonder what he would think of it now being a division of an oversees car company…..in the Netherlands no less!
You have that starting salary at Ford wrong. I mean Henry was paying line workers $5 a day back in the late teens. In post WW2 a starting engineer typically made about $35 to 40 dollars a week.
I believe it was more of a token salary that first week. In his autobiography he talks about how he displayed his first Ford paycheck on the wall. It is for $5
Keep up that great work! I really don't understand why you have such a low number of subs! Apart from that, I don't really like Chrysler and Ford (I'm a GM guy), but I think that Dodge and Ford as been really intelligent of not using Supercar Blondie for marketing and this is a no brainer easy question to answear. Like I really don't understand the direction the auto industry is taking, but it is not a good one for sure. From prices that are mental to marketing that is sh*t and full of BS with the EVs that is literally killing the planet. EVs are just literally a piece of bullsh*t and they throw Supercar Blondie in front of EVs to make us believe they are good (and she is manipulating and lying to us), then they increase the prices of cars because weirdo 50 years farmers saw her and get to sale more cars because 50 years are the more likely to buy brand new cars/trucks (especialy EVs) and this is all a monopoly loop.
Although I enjoy your auto industry documentaries very much,I think it's important to point out that Henry Ford the 2nd was the Grandson of Henry Ford - Henry Ford had only one son,and his name was Edsel Ford..
Lee Iacocca was the one who greenlighted the Ford Pinto knowing that it caught fire when rear-ended. Ford didn't want to spend money to fix it or change the design before it was released
He and everyone else at Ford also intended it to have a 5-year production run but they ended up building it for 10 years at the end of which it was fully obsolete.
Unfortunately, Chrysler's build quality and reliability has gone down since Lee Iacocca left which is why they went bankrupt again 2009. Mr. Iacocca tried to improve quality when he was working at Chrysler
This guy was behind stealing the invention of intermittent wipers, the pinto fiasco , promising amc employees they wouldn't lose their jobs and the 81 Imperial ! He was ruthless to his subordinates !
AMC would have had every job disappear had Chrysler not rescued them. It was a money furnace and would have closed and fired everyone when Renault stopped bailing it out.
0:13 I never understood how his autobiography, ghost written and poorly written became a best seller. Well, Trump’s book sold well too. The only success Trump knows. Lee did get back at Hank the Deuce by introducing the mini-van, a Ford concept vehicle that saved Chrysler
6:33 Talk about a corporate ruination of a great concept. The mustang was relegated to a mediocre car by the mid-seventies with poor American quality as the automobile manufacturers decided Americans will by whatever we serve up. They blew it. Poor quality, poor fit and finish.

Iacocca could have been President in 1988 he was so impressive as a leader through the 1980’s
Thx for actually talking into a microphone & not having an ai robot voice🤘🏼🏁
Great documentary. Thank you

Lose/lose situation!
Bob Eatons merger deal with the Germans (Daimler Benz) drained the cash rich strong Chrysler Iacocca had resurrected to nothing Thanks Bob
Excellent video. I always admired Lido. He was a no nonsense leader who did very little wrong.
Thanks for the research, time, editing and education
Mr Iacocca is a legend. Always appreciated his wit. RIP.
Wonderful video. Wish we had more leaders like him today.
Iacocca, what an icon, Carroll Shelby, and last living Bob Lutz. Great video thx for sharing.

hope to see your numbers raise
He is doing backflips in his grave seeing what has happened to Chrysler.
As in it doesn't really exist at all lol
Your are Wright they should have valiant back in production and disconue The 300 Chrysler

Great job.

I’m working on a video now about Hank The Deuce !!
What movies are these background scenes from
Lee Iacocca was the one who greenlighted the Ford Pinto knowing that it caught fire when rear-ended. Ford didn't want to spend money to fix it or change the design before it was released
He and everyone else at Ford also intended it to have a 5-year production run but they ended up building it for 10 years at the end of which it was fully obsolete.
Lee Iacocca was working on the minivan when he was a Ford, but Ford didn't think it would be a good idea and rejected it
Unfortunately, Chrysler's build quality and reliability has gone down since Lee Iacocca left which is why they went bankrupt again 2009. Mr. Iacocca tried to improve quality when he was working at Chrysler
Iacocca was like a second coming of Chrysler. Walter P Chrysler, who was practically identical to him.
@3:51 THATS A 1970 CHEVY CHEVELLE not a for factory 😂
If only he hadn't fallen out with Lutz though. I think Chrysler could've been in a stronger position today.
Lee iea coca should have migrated to Australia car industry might be still making cars to day
It’s not Henry Ford Jr. It’s Henry Ford The Second
True. Hank The Deuce.
