My sweet Grandad passed away 2 days ago at 90 years of age and this song will be playing at his funeral next week. He left Wales in his late teens and travelled to New Zealand via boat for more opportunities. Built a life with my Nana who he met here in NZ and had 4 children with, and then 11 grandchildren. This song makes me smile as it's symbolic of his journey back home, even down to the tree that Tom Jones references. My Grandad carved his initials into a tree as a child in Wales which I believe is still there now. He was the greatest man I've ever known, and I'm very grateful for this song that will always make me picture him young, back at full health, back in his hometown with family and friends.
