Hey Mike, Keep scraping the barrel. I'm retired and these places are fun to see and experience in Vancouver.
Mike truly inspires us! Haha
I completely agree. These BoftheB videos show Mike's personality and interests so much more than some run of the mill.
Agree...
Mike - I highly concur with the above. I'm from the States and know nothing about your city and I find it beautiful, interesting and informative. Keep digging and going!
now this is the wholesome content we need. love the local aspect of it.
Thank you so much Mike for scraping the barrel, your effort is much appreciated and makes so many of us happy in these gloomy time where we can't travel far. Love and Blessings!
This man is underrated
Thanks Jeremy 👍🏼😊
Actually, the "bottom of the barrel," in Vancouver, is pretty interesting. Every place is interesting. I don't know the first thing about making videos, but I'll talk with neighbors about it.
Trout Lake and the surrounding park is definitely a hidden gem of Vancouver.
I love these videos! Thank you for coming up with so many cool travel ideas for Vancouver!
Glad you like them!
I always love your videos! I have a suggestion for an interesting one...spots around Vancouver and BC were movies and series were filmed. A curious thing: I started my PhD at SFU last fall, but due to COVID I'm stuck in Brazil, so I've never been to the Campus...I've seen in the X files and a bunch of films though.
Great suggestion!
Hope you’re able to get here in person soon!
You should search at moviemaps.org
Yes, we all miss the travel videos (especially the train trips) , but you have managed to transition to local areas and keep it fresh and interesting. Well done, Mike!!
Thanks a ton
A grand tour of unique and interesting sites to see in Vancouver. Thanks for allowing us to see them all virtually. Whew! What a trip!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love historic buildings, and history.
Born and raised in the lower mainland love seeing a youtuber showcasing the beauty of Vancouver and its surrounding areas you rock keep up the awesome vids
Wow! Thanks so much!
Ive only been living in Vancouver/North Van for over a year and I feel like I've learned a lot just from your videos.
VI resident here....thanks for sharing great things about vancouver
Hey I think Vancouver is super interesting! Probably seems less so if you grew up there but it feels like travel to the rest of us. :)
Vids like this are brilliant, even if we did get to Vancouver, we would never find these places. Absolutely loving it, do more!
Good work on running around the city to find these heritage gems for us! This takes a lot of time to edit and put together. I really like your Dropbox video idea too.
Thank you very much!
Hardly scraping the barrel. Fascinating stuff.
Being a Vancouverite, really love your video explaining our hometown. Hope that next time you can explore other cities in Metro Vancouver (ie. Richmond, Burnaby etc.)
I miss Vancouver - can't wait until it's safe to go between provinces again! Great video!
Thanks for scraping the barrel Mike. It’s always fun to see what you’ve discovered.
This DownieLive Video "Touring Walk" gave me a really good time, liking the James House, the celebrated one of a kind trees, and the noble rock; leads me to this👍👍plus for our famous tour host🍻Cheers Mike! Beth Michaud "Subscribed" in N.W. Montana
Michael, I wish I could make a video for you but I am quarantined right now. Members of my household tested positive for covid. We are a three-generation family housed in a 5 bedroom house which was built in 1953. I love the heritage places you showed. It was interesting to see the trees are protected.
Oh no, Henrietta! Stay well!
@@DownieLive So far I am with God's help. ❤️😷
wow , i am into old buildings and staff and this video is perfect.
Absolutely enjoy your reporting of Vancouver's heritage. You are well trained as a reporter. Love the rock.
Loving these videos! I thought I’d done a lot of exploring around Vancouver, but turns out there are still a few places I need to see!
You do good work and your enthusiasm brightens everyone's spirit. Your hair has really taken off, that is until it gets wet! Thanks for letting it grow! Take care and stay safe!
Thank you so much!
“I’m just filming a tree!!” 🤣 great video 👍🏽
Thank you!! 😁
Hi Mike, I love those 'scraping the barrel' videos. SO much more place to explore in Vancouver. Have lived here a while and didn't know about all those different places you keep highlighting. Thx
Thanks Karolin! Enjoy!
I'm sure your channel inspires a lot of people to want to travel vlog but hats off to you - hosting a show in front of the camera takes skill, talent, and courage. You're doing a good job making it appealing to a broad range of people... it's like a mix between Blues Clues and The Crocodile Hunter. Keep going!
That is not scraping the bottom, you are just getting started, this video was great just like all the others! Your eager to learn and know personality does so much to spark the viewers interest and make us want more! Thank you for a great video!
Your enthusiasm and energy is infectious. Vancouver in the rain never felt so sunny. :-)
Everyone who has enjoyed your travel videos over the past years should really support you now that times are more difficult to make content, however this is still interesting and well worth watching.
Stay safe and continue to make any content you can and hopefully subscribers will support you.
Thanks for that!
It makes me SOOOOO so happy to hear that we have trees protected by heritage status!!
This is great, Mike! I am always looking forward to Saturdays cause of you and your content :)
Thanks Yuri!
I LOVE that you are doing this. Finances were tight for us for five years while my husband went back to school, so I did this a lot in the "other" Vancouver - Vancouver, WA! I even found a community orchard that a couple planted during the depression, and the pear trees were still going strong! I love looking at Trip Advisor, Culture Trip, and Atlas Obscura for the weird things in my area. Thank you for doing this!
Yeah, Atlas Obscura is great.
After watching all your Vancouver videos I’m going to have to put it on my bucket list.
You absolutely should! It’s a great city and well worth a visit.
We walk everywhere and take lots of pics. I love this idea. :)
Mike, what a great idea to involve the rest of the world. We are all going to learn something new and unique.
A big response from viewers will tell the tale.
Hey Mike! I just moved to Vancouver and your “bottom of the barrel” videos help me find great places to explore as a newbie to the city. Thanks!
Enjoy!
The house on King Edward is known as the Hobbit House. There are two in the city.
Woe...you get around! We like the bottom of the barrel, anything to see something, anything different is a good thing. Stay safe out there.
Hell yeah that rock bit was top notch inspiration
This is one of your best....this is not the bottom of your barrel in terms of topics...really interesting examples of our heritage
Thanks Michael. Running out of ideas has forced me to be very creative 👍🏼
This thatched house is so cool :) I'd cycle past it every day and it never ceased to amaze me. There's a bunch of odd houses in this neck of the woods
I always stay tune every Saturday.. I lab your videos.. More power Mike..
You rock!
You're doing great. I love Vancouver British Columbia whatever you show I'm interested.
Thanks , it's such a delight to spend my Aussie Sunday mornings watching your videos 😄
Enjoy!
The old bowmac sign ..from the fire escape of the Johnson block 3rd floor across the enlet. As a kid used to love seeing that sign all lighit up ...neon blue bad red... on a summer's night . Back in the early 1970tys
I lived in Burnaby I the late 60's , love this video Mike!
I grew up in Vancouver, and it was great to see these. My 1st adult job was at 1155 W Pender so I walked by those lions every day from May 1973 to November 1976.
Wow. I guess they’ve been there a long time! 😄
In 1973 IBM (where I worked) had the first 3 floors. I was in Vancouver in August for the 1st time in several years, so much has changed in that area with all the development. All 3 of these videos have brought back wonderful memories of growing up in Vancouver.
What a hoot! Enjoyed these interesting tidbits. Love those trees and that volcanic rock.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this one Mike. Makes me not to take things/sights for granted. Too many people are set on simply pulling everything down, leveling the land into a featureless slab and then building monotonous blocks to cram as many humans as possible. The local city authorities are largely to be blamed by greedily approving it to generate more tax income. There are too many development loop-holes that are craftily circumvented by wily ‘developers’ or just complacent city officials turning a blind eye.
Lovely video of things in Vancouver that locals scarcely know anything about. You're doing an excellent job with limited, and diminishing, material to work with.
Thanks Frederick. I’m quickly running out of ideas.
@@DownieLive You may already have one this, but how about Lonsdale Quay and the new Polygon Gallery right next door. It's a fantastic art museum (thepolygon.ca). Deep Cove while you're at it; not so nice in the winter, but still lovely.
Great recommendations. Thanks!
Two of my fav hidden gem "water views". 1) Cameron Ave/Dunbar street, there is a walkway that leads to a concrete staircase that leads to a very private beach/waterfront. 2) 11497 Twigg Pl. There used to be a swing bridge here, the south van side is crap but the Richmond side is way nicer because you can walk onto the remains of the bridge. A rare part of the GVRD that is scenic but also very industrial .
So cool! Just got back to Seattle from our trip to Vancouver! Makes me want to find some of these interesting spots next time we visit!
Very good video, Mike. Neat video of cool places and things to check out in Vancouver.
Brilliant video Mike! Giving my partner and I more reasons to hurry up and move there!
what a FANTASTIC idea mike !!! I can't wait to see it
Love your videos... stay safe always..
More power to you.. Mike..
Thanks 👍
Loving history as I do, this was a neat video! I’m glad so many things are protected in Vancouver! Neat place!
I believe there's a tree located in the middle of a laneway near Broadway and Yew-ish that's also protected. It's funny because the tree is literally in the middle of the lane and cars have to drive around it
Between Broadway and 7th - I love it! So Vancouver ☺️
I've watched some of your other vids before but today I subbed! Thanks for helping me explore my own city of Vancouver!
Alright! Welcome aboard!
Lots more to come!
This was fantastic! As a history nerd, I really enjoyed the way you searched the CoV registry to showcase hidden gems (and trees!). UBC similarly has a wayfinding map for the biggest trees around campus. Vancouver planners and developers are turning the city into a generic condo wasteland and it was heartwarming to see these gems.
I love this kind of video! Most of what you showed I didn't know!
This video had so many historical infos ❤️ thanks! I miss Vancouver...can’t wait to go back 🙏 With this Covid-19 I’ve decided to stay put in Philippines.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always great videos! Actually loved the heritage angle...
wouldnt call this content scrapping the bottom ..found it really interesting ! thanks for filming and uploading ...
I’ve been watching some of your railway videos and noticed the Scotland one. Up in killchurn, Scotland there’s an old train car you can stay in as a hotel right beside the active station. It’s sat under an old castle on the loch side. You also need to visit the Isle of Man as they have an electric tram way that opened back in 1898. I’m sure it’s the oldest electric railway in the uk.
That volcanic rock has probably been there millions of years .
You should do a video on the Masonic side of Vancouver.
Always enjoy seeing you. The James House has certain similarities to Anne Hathaway cottage in Stratford, England. I know the Hathaway is more rustic and has a thatched roof, but even so, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the James.
Your video reminds me of the old "Sunday drive" of my childhood. When stores were closed on Sunday, getting out and going for ride in the car was part of our afternoon entertainment.
as someone who's never been to Vancouver but is so enthralled with what i've virtually seen, i say keep scraping the barrel for as long as you need to. 👍
Whooo! Thanks
Thank you for you video!
Really hope be there soon! ✈🎬
hey man, nothing wrong with "scraping the bottom of the barrel" these videos are the ones I love the most. It gives me places to go that I never knew of
Wow i had never heard of the volcanic rock and i first came to Vancouver in 1997 and have been living there on and off ever since.
Ok I'm biased for sure. 54yr old Vancouverite 😁 but Wow ! So very happy you took us all along . Sentiment and nostalgia are great feelings any time but so extra nice these days 😲 Thanks again Michael 💗
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pretty Cool Video. Please keep them coming. Stay Safe and God Bless You and your family.
What a great idea. Redwood Park in South Surrey - beautiful park.
Great videos! I heard Vancouver is big on film. Maybe you could do a video on popular filming locations!
Love this exploring of your beautiful city of Vancouver.
I loved the Pacific Central sign at the Via Rail station in Vancouver.Unfortunately I got questioned and told off by security for taking photos of the station.Still I loved my visit to beautiful Vancouver!
Sorry you got told off. Come back anytime.
Something I'd truly love to see one day is that Bowmac sign restored and back in all of its illuminated glory. The Toys r Us sign slapped on always felt like a parasitic desecration.
Agreed.
Heritage sites whether they're man made or natural are important to any city. Whenever you visit a European city you'll notice the importance immediately. They've recognized the value long ago. Government and developers here need to do more to save these sites for future generations.
Happy New Year Michael, 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣1️⃣. Look forward to your videos this year. 💥👍🔥👊🇬🇧
Thanks for these videos because it gives us an idea of what Vancouver looks like. I love it. I wish I had of seen this earlier as I could have submitted a video to you.
It’s not too late, Vicki!
Email it to me, michael@downielive.com
I’m loving the scraped barrel Mike! And I am team volcanic rock all the way! ❤️
Great video Mike ! Love how you can still find stuff to film creativity is 💯🤙🏽
I’m running out of ideas! 😄
@@DownieLive content will be 🔥 I know it so I look forward to it every time 🙏🏽
😊 thanks so much!
This was fantastic!! I’ve lived near. Vancouver my whole life, and I had no idea about anything in this video! You are doing a great job!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Here’s one I just became aware of!! ‘Steelhead Lodge Secret Celebrity Retreat’. There was a secret lodge in Coquitlam that celebs like Liz Taylor, Clark Gable, and Errol Flynn would visit. On the Coquitlam River. Up the north end of Shaunessy street. There is an area where the streets are all named after very famous people ! They would hide away, fish, hike and enjoy our beautiful nature.
What?!!! That’s so cool! I have to check that out. Thank you.
What a great idea to have us send a clip from where we live! I'm not very tech savvy, but I will attempt to do so.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white...the bright blessed day and the dark sacred night...and I think to myself...What a Wonderful World...💖
This is awesome! I had no idea Vancouver had heritage listed trees and rocks. That's so cool! Next time I'm in BC I'll have to check out that list.
And now I'm going to see if the city of Toronto has heritage listed trees and rocks to add to your video compilation!
Excited for the Global Hidden Gems video!!!!😱😱😱Keep creating amazing content!
Coming soon! It should be ready for next week!
Cool energy, cant wait to check out your other videos!!
Forget any tour guide or books. Your channel is an window to Vancouver.... I hope you do one piece on the PEACE Arch, once the park opens up on our side.
Good morning 🌅 Mike, like the long hair! You're like a 70s throwback! 🤓
Morning!
I lived right behind the BOWMAC sign on 10th ave for 30 yrs. In fact I remember when there were a lot of Car dealerships along w. Broadway.
Thank you for sharing your Vaccouver.
I've only been to Montreal but now I wanna go see the 🌋 outcrop!
Good video.keep it up.
I miss Vancouver 🙁 ...greetings from Seattle. 🙋🏼♂️
Greetings 🖖 👋🏼
Brilliant vid, great presentation, it may feel to you like you're scraping the bottom, but for the rest of us you're doing a good job.
I watched all your videos. I went to film school and I will definitely check out the skill share. That's wicked. You should also show abandoned buildings. There's a lot of cool ones.
