I've been enjoying your channel for a while now, especially as we are about the same age. I just bought the Evo 150 Delorean edition here in the UK. It sounds great & and I love its flexibility and looks. The class D Amps in it are very good using my ATC 19 MK2 speakers which take some driving; definitely not as good as my Exposure power Amps but a lot less intrusive. As its Christmas I've currently set it up in my living room through the ARC / TV for the family at Christmas. I came to the same conclusion as you several months ago. A separate system still has that significant edge for me. As an 'audiophile' (prefer music lover) I won't be giving my separates up just yet. 😊👍
Also a recent convert to system downsizing, with a Naim Atom H.E. + active speakers. Very happy with the sound, performance, convenience, etc. and don't miss the stack of metal boxes too much; still have the Rega and phono stage but I like their aesthetics. Perhaps ultimate sound quality can't be reached this way but I'm enjoying it so much I'm not sure I'd want to go back.
I have a ton of experience with these units and they are fantastic in certain use cases. You really hit the mark with this review. Had this hooked up for a bit to TAD Evolution 2 and it didn’t break a sweat. Also thought it matched quite nicely with KEF R3’s. The stream magic software is well thought out and easy to use.
I recently upgraded my Bluesound Powernode in my garage man cave to the EVO150 so that I could add a second set of speakers for an outside patio. Works a charm, was easy to set up, sounds great, has great build quality. And, I purchased it used at a great price from and audiophile who had upgraded to a Naim product. Glad I made the jump!
I picked left …more room for audiophile fun ..btw, yes..I’m in my 60’s and downsizing is a thing …running a headphone stack ..but reactivating my vinyl 😆 Have a great Christmas to you and yours.
If you get the EVO 150...one must buy the Delorean edition! I looked at the EVO 150 for most of the reasons you stated but choose the Yamaha R-N2000A the functionality is very similar but you don't get the screen - but you get UV meters and a more classic look.
Did you look at the Cambridge audio Evo one?it has built in speakers and is a great one box solution in my opinion,to my ears the sound is excellent and very detailed, the only thing missing for me is a headphone outlet
Maybe it’s our similar age, but I too am going through the same simplification of my equipment. I however, still can’t go so far as getting rid of my class A/B amplification. Merry Christmas!
I feel like at this price and for an all in one these days, some sort of room correction is essential. It’s easier for me to throw a mindsp box somewhere in the chain if I have multiple components or implement REW but for closed boxes like this, it would defeat the purpose. If WiiM streamer can do it and hordes of other companies - Yamaha, Sonos, NAD are able to do it, no reason for a $2.5k device not to have it.
Try the Marantz Model M1 you will be pleasantly surprised at how powerful your speakers will play. It definitely surprised me using it with my Buchardt S400 Mk2.
I don’t own CM8 speakers, so I couldn’t tell you. There is plenty power on tap to drive them well. The only way to know if you like it is try one yourself. Thx
Everything can be repaired…as long as parts are available. For example, there is some hifi gear from the 80s that have particular IC chips inside that cannot be obtained any longer.
6:45 No external DAC?.................................. Just connect to the typical XLR or RCA analog input as per usual👍 Merry Christmas. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass🔈🔉🔊
$3k for NCORE ? I could see Purfi or Nilai class D and the DAC chip if you are getting stuck with ESS at least a PRO chip…I don’t get it Cambridge The separates system really nice and that makes sense to me If I got a one box solution it would be the $1K Marantz M1 made in Japan and a great value
Ncore was designed by the same person who designed the purifi modules. They’re hardly bad. If using purifi modules added $500-1000 to the cost, and likely it would due to the cost multiplier manufacturers use to stay in business and pay distributors and dealers, it might not be a consideration for many.
Neither, nor... I detest both options. I dont like to look at a chaotic stack all day with cable spaghetti in sight. Nor do I like a user experience that feels like a straightjacket. Or a gilded cage if you will. It looks nice but performs sub par, leaving you wishing for what could have been magical. This is like choosing between two evils. When in reality you can choose whatever you like. You can vote with your wallet you know.
I do not judge its performance as sub-par at all. Maybe not for a serious vinyl enthusiast as-is, but overall it’s a very good sounding system that I could easily live with if my circumstances or preferences changed. Don’t be so quick to judge until you try one out.
3K is absolutely a ridiculous price. Do these big wigs have multiple vacation homes and exotic automobiles? Maybe a review on the lifestyles of these crooks would be more enjoyable.
@MODAC More like legal crooks I should say. Think about prices in general, not just the audio industry. The auto industry is totally out of control including insurance companies. Did you ever research the amount of bonuses these big wigs make? Where do you think the money comes from? The consumer that doesn't give one crap about being ripped off, that's who.
Comparing the minuscule hifi industry to huge multinational corporations is absurd. Expensive is a relative term. Obviously it’s not for you, but the market determines value…Several commenters have expressed their satisfaction with owning the Evo 150. If it doesn’t sell enough units to justify its price, Cambridge will stop making it. Stick with the cheap stuff if it makes you happy. Thx
Def.not. What I wouldn't get for 3 thousand dollars. Mind you, I'm not any pretentious audiophile, but if I could spare that cash, I sure am going to get some real hardware to make it count.

Have a great Christmas to you and yours.
Happy to hear you decided on the HoloAudio Spring 3 KTE for your system. 🔊🎶
Get the smsl su 1 better for far less
Holo has teamed up with Topping for a new R2 DAC under 1000 . Wish someone would review it 2 top notch companies .

Yes, I've seen the Delorean at my local dealer. Nice.

How would the EVO150 drive some B&W CM8 speakers? Are they a good match?
I don’t own CM8 speakers, so I couldn’t tell you. There is plenty power on tap to drive them well. The only way to know if you like it is try one yourself. Thx
Thank you for your fast answer
I'd Like this if it had XLR speaker outs, cuz I use powered studio monitors in my setup.
It has RCA preamp outs.
So don't buy it. People always make excuses why they won't buy it, even though they had no intention.
@@r423fplip You don't know my intentions. I just have a unique setup.
This is an integrated amp, so it would be silly to buy this to connect it to powered speakers.
I thought you lived in Chicago?
Nope. Never.
You may be confusing him with Old Guy HiFi??? 🤷♂️
He's from Chicago. ✌️
All in one like this Evo 150 is great UNTIL something goes broken inside... No one will be able to repair it anymore...
Why is that?
Because the repair cost will be greater than replacing cost. It is too complex, compact and frankly not made to be repaired. @@MODAC
Everything can be repaired…as long as parts are available. For example, there is some hifi gear from the 80s that have particular IC chips inside that cannot be obtained any longer.
That,s simply not true these run unstressed despite there power , the Hypex Ncore 252 modules are readily available, but hav3 proven to be reliable

Oh yeah........ I missed that. Well done lol😁

sneaker pimps earns you a "subscribed" : )
I can't get past the ugly screen. I don't want a screen at all.
$3k? Wow!!
Definitely too much money for a streamer.
Not just a streamer. It has a built-in 150 wpc amp and a preamp.
$3k for NCORE ?

Made in Japan, with Chinese parts.
A sensible, non-hysterical reply. Thanks.
Modify your BS Node 😊

$3000 and your stuck with a 2020 DAC chip …forever.

Larger the speaker
The larger the amp
Real hardware ! Spoken like a true audiophile.
