Lyn Smith Gregory

LYN SMITH GREGORY grew up in Utah as one of nine children in a devout Mormon family. Her great, great uncle was Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon Church. At 19, she left the Church and moved to New York City, eventually obtaining an MBA at NYU.
In her memoir in progress, We Were Smiths, she will reveal the consequences of leaving the Mormon Church as a Smith, related to Joseph Smith, the Mormon Church founder and prophet, after finding that Smith was a fraud and a con artist. The repercussions of her apostasy are far ranging; not only the estrangement from her family, community, and culture but her very sense of self as a Smith, someone set apart and expected to be special.
