- The ticker in the upper left (below the date) is the proportion of active cubers (competed in the last 6 months) who are female! I should've made that more clear but oh well.
I'm back with the first ever female-only video on this channel!
What do you guys think of the new digit-scrolling effect? I was inspired by live subscriber-count websites to implement it! I made them with Processing with a little trickery of drawing digits to small, black "image" objects, and then drawing those images to the screen. It took me a whole 6 hours to get it to work everywhere but hopefully it was worth it!

Isn't there a tournament for the least move solves? This seems a greater challenge as the speed solves rely mostly on fast, not accurate movements.

When I see Casey Tharpe beat Fridrich's time - who's that? Oh... she changed her name, she had a different last name at the time, and I only know her by the old name. I know it might be difficult as the stats aren't really kept by WCA, but I think it would be cooler to have the name at the time, in case someone has changed theirs.
In the WCA you can see that her ID still is "2005PERN01". But I get it's confusing, "Casey" is a rather common name. But Jessica Fridrich also changed her name, but she's only known as Jessica now - and listing her old name would kinda defeat the point of the video.
Side note: Why do all Minesweeper-people cube? In my university program Tommy (ralokt) was always known as the "cube-guy" and now EWQ was the one who brought me into cubing and then I find out you cube as well. Edit: and Kamil posts his cubing-times on facebook.
Well, it's a bit different with Fridrich, isn't it? Ever since she put her website up in the late 90s, everyone knew her as Jessica, so the change didn't affect people in the community. Whereas for Casey, when she was well-known in cubing, it was by the old name. Oh well, doesn't matter too much, just kinda confusing.
I didn't know ralokt cubed, that's pretty cool. There was a guy ages ago, Shenjia Zhang, who was the first really good minesweeper player and cuber. EWQ and Kamil both got into cubing relatively recently, after they stopped putting so much time into minesweeper - maybe that's what it is, that the minesweeper community is mostly dead, and people who were good at it found cubing to be something similar but yet different. I learned cubing before I got serious about minesweeper, and when I was really big into minesweeper, I don't remember other people in the community cubing very much.
Looking back, I guess I worded things badly. What I wanted to say was: Just using the name someone had at that point lets you run into other issues. So you can't use that as a blank rule.
