I think it also has a lot to do with the way you stand on your feet when you accelerate in that position. Some people tend to stand flat footed, like a heavy stance instead of on their toes being able to move quicker and lighter in that stance.
Using someone known for court-vision would be redundant. Maggette (not known for passing) shows that he still has better peripheral vision than your average joe. That seems obvious, but they break it down into quantifiable proof.
About Corey Maggette, he says average superstar, not average all-star. And how is Cuttino Mobley not an NBA star? He makes millions of dollars playing professionally basketball in the NBA. The fact you know who who he is proves he's still a star.
I see you're point. To the average person, Corey Maggette is a bona fide NBA superstar (he's certainly paid like one, despite coming off the bench). But it would be funny if lesser players were introduced as scrubs: Here to demonstrate this experiment, please welcome NBA scrub Alex Acker...
Why would Corey Magette have peripheral vision? All he seems to see is the hoop. They should ask a good point guard or some old retired guy like Magic Johnson, John Stockton, etc.
Superstar is a subjective term. But I hope you didn't think I was arguing Maggette is a superstar because, IMO, he isn't. And he hasn't made an All-Star team, so by definition he is not an All-Star either. The announcer could have just called him a professional basketball player, which is an objective and verifiable statement.
What the heck is he talking about when he says 'that fraction of a second equals one light year'??.. Does he even know what a light year is?? It's not even a unit of time!
do they keep in mind...that most pro athletes are more athletic than your average joe...so they can run faster and it may have nothing to do with reaction time...
Not really agree with that vid lol Because it's something that Nash got it's experience lol He "knew" or better felt when a player is at some point or not... Practice and game time.... Not better eye vision
the commentator always mis-introduce the nba players in those episodes. NBA star mobley? not anymore. average "ALL-STAR" Maggette??? theres not AVERAGE ALL STAR. just LOL.
reaction time?? please.... your average joe will win every time? why? because we play VIDEO GAMES! and if you play shooting video games then you know you only have 1/10 of a second before the other guy kills you.

Great vid! Corey & Steve mean business!!
racing drivers have the best reaction times period.
Steve Nash is also crosseyed (to the outside). That gives some extra degrees
Of all the crazy shit Corey Maggette could do for you on Sports Science, they have him doing a reaction time drill?
Bad TV? More like Awesome TV! Working title for new show: "So You Think You Can Push?"
OMG nash has eyes at the back of his head lol

@7RIM7 as in it would take 1 year going lightspeed, its a form of distance, and some time, but more distance.
ahh didn't think about that. Thx
I'm pretty sure their reaction time is exactly the same
Corey's just fast
what do swimmers have to react to other than the water?
they should have also done it with other types of athletes. Like a quarterback or running back
STEVE NASH!
it has nothing to do with periferal vision...its about drawing two defenders and knowing where the open man is gonna be

Nash has better peripheral vision cuz his eyes are nearly a full meter apart >>

Lightyear describes DISTANCE.
nash kickes ass
Its a test of reaction time of vision between an average person and an athlete. so....
Corey Maggete ... NBA superstar?
Shouldve been Jason Kidd up there

@TheLeilisa 6'4 and No

i was forced to watch this.....
never has been. Superstars are Kobe, Lebron, Duncan, etc. Those are superstars. Maggete hasn't even been an all star.
