  • Michael Feinstein (born 1956) is an interpreter of, and an anthropologist and archivist for, the repertoire known as the Great American Songbook. While performing in San Francisco's celebrated Plush Room cabaret (located in the York Hotel, now the Hotel Vertigo), he was guest of Earl Raab's weekly TV broadcast of "Am Yisrael" on KRON-TV, channel 4. It was broadcast June 8, 1986. In 1988 Feinstein won a Drama Desk Special Award for celebrating American musical theatre songs. He is also a multi-platinum-selling, five-time Grammy-nominated recording artist. He serves as Artistic Director for The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana.
    "Am Yisrael" was a Sunday morning television show produced by KRON-TV, San Francisco. The host was Earl Raab, one of the California Jewish community's most widely recognized and respected community leaders and intellectuals. As the co-founder of Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC), he recognized the importance of having a strong, unified voice in Sacramento to better the lives of those in the Jewish community. The Earl Raab Award is awarded annually to a community activist who best exemplifies Mr. Raab's high standard of communal activism and advocacy for residents of California.
