    Hey Randy I have probably a dumb question. I realize that they are tending the queen but are ALL of the bees dog piling her tending the queen or is it because she's in the cage? Reason I ask is because I'm wondering if after too long all the bees covering her like that would cause her damage? Or is this just normal.

    • @hippymama100
      @hippymama100 2 года назад +2

      I don't know the answer to your whole question, but I think I know part of it. They would only do damage to her if she stopped being a productive queen. Otherwise, they will lovingly tend her, in all conditions. Being piled together doesn't harm any of them. They can regulate their temperature. They do sometimes pile on and "cook" a queen to death by elevating the temperature around her, but again that only happens when they are trying to get rid of her intentionally. In this case she's a well established queen in a productive hive. She is completely safe to be in that cage for a short period of time.

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  2 года назад

      They're really only piled together like that because I've removed enough comb that there isn't room on the remaining combs for them all to spread out and they just need a place to be at the moment. The only ones tending the queen are right around the cage and they will rotate out. Surprisingly they don't suffocate or do harm to each other even when piled up thick like that for a couple of days.

      Doak 48,
      Very funny post! I'll be right BEHIND you and the flame thrower, if you decide to go there and hunt copperheads. And yes, I DO have one of those I can lend you!

    When you put the comb (brood) in the box how do you keep the honey from coating the bees?

      It may not have been an issue with framed up honey. If you use too much vac pressure or too long of a hose they will get stressed and regurgitate honey all over each other. They will just stay in a cluster and die.

    • @scotthenderson4376
      @scotthenderson4376 2 года назад

      @@628DirtRooster That sounds like my issue the hose was long like 15ft. Then I saw another of you videos that you mention getting to close to the wet comb while vacuuming. Still looking for fix for that. What is the longest the hose should be?
