- Got one of those smart component testers: resistors, capacitors, transistors, MOSFETs, diodes, ... We assemble the case and test the tester.
WARNING: There is always a danger of shock, fire and electrocution when working with electricity. Capacitors of high voltage can kill if mishandled.

Excellent video, thanks. I just got mine today and I realized that the rectangular hole in the back near the battery is for mounting the battery on the OUTSIDE of the case. The little holes are for zip-ties to hold it in place. Also, the little hole in the side is for mounting a power switch. Could help extend the life of the battery.

Yes, the weak point of this kind of meter is inductance measuring. I tried to measure inductance of a fully functional 10 H choke (which was not connected to any circuit). No result at all.
And when I tried to measure a excellent condition Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, the result was that it is a very small capasitor. Resistance or inductance was not measurable at all. Of course the loudspeaker coil is very sensitive and can move and react to the test signal (which can be heard very clearly during the measurement) and kick back.
And yes, battery change is not very easy.
And yes, the display cable is too close to the upper part of the casing.

I bought one of these from China with the battery holder, which was for some reason cheaper than the one with the battery lead. I would have thought a holder would cost more than a lead but in this case, not. I also have the 3 small leads that you can plug into the 3 testing points, so you can clip them on to components so you don't have to plug the components directly into the testing points (which will work out good for capacitors etc that have had their pins cut too short to reach the testing points). I got to figure out how to use the thing now lol

Square Hole is for exteded Test Probe or alligator clip. Actually the test probe is not included in the package.

I found a spare 500ma 9V power supply which I use instead of a battery and made small groove in the end of the case for the wires.
That's a good idea. Seems my batteries are always dead or leaking.
@@tsbrownie when I buy one, if it doesn't have a power switch for the battery, then I'll install one. As it uses standby current from the battery, it will eventually drain the battery with the tester sitting on a shelf

5-7% error on inductance meassurings, tried with 15 pieces of known values
i did see, a review of this type product.
on eevblog and shango066 youtube channels, but i wen't and got one the other day to put it together take a good look at its picture on the web site you go it, also i put some glue around the nuts after the screws were in the outside case, but then the batteries could be replaced with a 2.1mm dc socket with break contact were that square hole is on the side. plus the unit dont come with a holder to put your 9 volt batterie in anyway.?
Yes, no battery holder.
The ebay site where I bought my unit had the option to buy the tester with either a battery clip or a battery holder. The battery holder is good when you buy the separate clear case as the bottom of the clear case has L shaped openings for the battery holder. Warning: the battery holder also has 3 round protrusions that require the battery clips to be oriented to the same side as the zif lever & the bottom plastic also must match to allow the wire clearance hole to also be oriented to the left. I used crazy glue to attach the battery holder to the case bottom. Due to the Interlocking corners, I found it necessary to glue the side pieces together before gluing them to the bottom. I left the top unglued to be able to change the battery.
I'm torn between using the battery vs the 9v adapter for portability.
I have one of these and so does a friend. Any idea when I test a transistor on each them, one says NPN and the other shows the same transistor is a PNP ???????? What am I missing here? It's a TIP126 bipolar transistor. Thank you! Great channel btw, I'm learning a ton!
Thanks. Same software version in each? Using the same holes in the quick release? Using the very same transistor to test (not just the same type)?
@@tsbrownie I'll need to check software version. But, yes it's the exact same transistor. When I test with a multimeter, it tests as an NPN with pin 1 as the base.

@@jagboy69 I have 2 of these by different companies and I was thinking of the red one with a rotary switch that you can press and hold for other functions. I just went and tried the "yellow" one and it does not do that. Given the software can't be upgraded, it sounds like it's defective.
@@tsbrownie lol... That's not good. So either mine or my buddies is goofy. I did do the calibration on mine and of course it didn't change. During the cal, it did show FNIRSI-T4, I'm guessing that's my software. I bet you're right and my new one is junk. I'll let scamazon send me another. Thanks for your help! SUBBED!

How did you peeled the brown paper from acrylic?
It should come off easily, unless it is old. Then it sticks and requires lots of work to get off.

Use a heat source ie hair dryer comes right off
I used warm water, but had to wait while the adhesive softened.

I do not have the copyright and I have no website to upload it.
I know of no manual for either the tester or case assembly.

It works or it does not work? Sirve, it works, but with some limitations.
Die ältere Version ( 2.07 ) erkennt mehr Bauteile.
The older version (2.07) recognizes more components.
Leave the front on and cut a hole in the back case so you can replace battery easier
